Who Are the 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission Members?
State Auditor website featuring applications of redistricting members has bad links

A “non-partisan” elections analysis blog reported last July 2020 that “initial selections were made today for the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the body tasked with drawing boundaries for the U.S. Congress, State Senate, State Assembly, and the Board of Equalization. This fourteen-member commission comprises five Democrats, five Republicans, and four belonging to other parties or no party at all.”
They explain how the California Citizens Redistricting Commission is chosen in two phases. “First, eight members are selected by random draw from a group of finalists. Those eight members then choose six more members from the group of finalists. In order to agree on a final map, three members from each group must agree.”
However, the links to access shapecaliforniasfuture.auditor.ca.gov website, as well as the applications for the 2020 California Redistricting Commission members, are no good.
The Globe sent an email Wednesday to the California State Auditor’s office notifying them and asking why these links are no good. We did numerous searches on the auditor’s site for “2020 California Redistricting Commission members,” but nothing turned up.
2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission
The first eight commissioners were randomly selected on July 2, 2020. Those commissioners will be selecting the final six members of the 2020 Commission by no later than August 15, 2020. For more information about that process or to sign-up to receive notifications, visit shapecaliforniasfuture.auditor.ca.gov. When the 2020 Commission is fully formed, they will receive required training, hire their staff, select their vendors, establish their protocols for conducting their business and carrying out their responsibilities. This website will be updated as soon as the 2020 Commission is able to.
The 14-member 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission is fully formed. As required by law, the first eight members of the 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission were randomly selected on July 2, 2020 from a list of remaining applicants delivered by the Legislature on June 26, 2020. These first eight members chose the final six members from the applicants that remained in the applicant pool on August 7, 2020.

The failure of the shapecaliforniasfuture.auditor.ca.gov website is a failure of general government transparency.
As of 8:00pm Wednesday evening, we still hadn’t heard back from the California Auditor’s office about the bad links to the shapecaliforniasfuture.auditor.ca.gov website. We will follow up on this and report back.

These “non-partisan” boards are a political smoke-screen for the Democrats to lie & cheat their way into redistricting & gerrymandering the districts to their advantage…

Appreciate so much that you keep us abreast of these events, Katy. Will have to get over my aversion to revisiting this because in my naivete I had such high hopes for redistricting in the past, not realizing there would be monkey business going on. Looking to understand and scrutinize better this time around.
The state IT department is a joke! Alot of them are narcissist who think they have control. “They are right, everybody else is wrong.” Don’t expect that state website to be up for 4 more years!
Per Steve Frank, the Dem Party controls the “Citizens Redistricting Commission.” As in 2011, the “random” selection process produced partisan Dems and milquetoast Reps.
As in 2011, the “Citizens Redistricting Commission” will produce a Dem Gerrymander as good as the legislature could have done. The entire system is rigged and corrupt.

They only care about raising money, not DOING ANYTHING with it….
