January 7th is the Day

Governor-Elect Gavin Newsom will be looking forward to next month as his swearing in ceremony has just been announced.

Taking place on the steps of the Capitol, January 7th’s induction is expected to be just one tiny piece of a wide range of festivities throughout the week.

Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, are expected to hold a children’s event at the California State Railroad Museum one day before the ceremony. Then, following the celebration Newsom will rock Sacramento’s’ Golden 1 Center with a fundraising concert that is designed to go towards the California Fire Foundation. All profits will help serve to alleviate firefighters, their families and numerous communities affected by the horrific wildfires that have plagued the state.

This is the first time that the inauguration will be held on the West Steps of the Capitol since Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was sworn in during 2003’s ceremonial event. It is scheduled to kick off at 11am.

Governor-Elect Newsom said “it will be the honor of a lifetime to take the oath of office as California governor.” Before adding, “it seems appropriate to use this moment to unite as a state — stronger and more resilient than ever — to do whatever we can to ensure all of our fellow Californians, especially those impacted by tragic wildfire, have the opportunity to build a brighter future and pursue their dreams.”

The event will officially mark Newsom’s first day as California’s highest ranking official. Look for him to cover what he intends to accomplish during his time as the 41st Governor of the Golden State .
