After nearly 30 years of serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, it appears Republican Incumbent Dana Rohrabacher will be ousted by Democratic challenger Harley Rouda.
Although the final decision has not been called, as it stands, Rouda – the ex-Republican leads the contest for California’s 48th District by over 2,000 votes. The line casts Rouda at 50.7 percent and Rohrabacher at 49.3 percent.
Despite describing himself as a relic of the Regan era and earning the endorsement of President Trump, the Orange County district has been moving more Democratic ever since it was carried by Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.
As if the GOP within California’s representation wasn’t already thoroughly diminished, Rouda’s victory will certainly re-shape the district for years to come while also helping Democrats retake a significant majority in Washington.
No doubt Rouda has ran a most stout campaign. Focusing on issues such as health care and people with pre-existing conditions, in an article by the California Globe earlier this week, we noted how this greatly payed off with voters.
Rouda has not yet issued any victory statements as the vote count is still being considered.
