The Corporate Culture is Caving to the Cancel Culture
John Sutter is the latest victim of the cancel culture

John Sutter should only be judged according to the culture and traditions of his times, not by uneducated, ignorant young grievance hustlers in 2020, who were taught social justice instead of Social Studies.
The cancel culture came to Sacramento Monday. The man famous for the discovery of gold on the American River, Swiss immigrant John Sutter, is now a casualty of the cancel culture.
One of Sutter’s employees, James Marshall, discovered gold at his sawmill in what would later become the town of Coloma in January 1848.
Monday, the hospital system which bears his name removed his statue. This is what Sutter Hospital’s spokesman said:
“Out of respect for some community members’ viewpoints, and in the interest of public safety for our patients and staff,” Sutter Health decided to remove the donated statue, a company spokesman said Monday.
“There are important conversations happening across the country about the appropriate representation of statues and monuments, and we look forward to listening to and participating in future conversations about how our own community may display artwork from the different communities and individuals that have played important roles in Sacramento’s history.”
What is Sutter’s crime?
“He’s a racist, he’s a murderer, and he enslaved thousands of Native Americans,” Ida Rodriguez said.”Ida Rodriguez, a member of the Statewide Coalition Against Racist Symbols, has been calling on state and local officials to tear down monuments that glorify figures who abused American Indians. She said the statue of Sutter ‘should’ve been taken down a long time ago,’” the Sacramento Bee reported.
Sutter received a land grant from the Mexican government, and used the land to build an agricultural establishment and named it New Helvetia (New Switzerland.)
In Sacramento, he built what came to be known as Sutter’s Fort, and developed crops of grapes and wheat, along with vast herds of cattle. Aligning himself with the Mexican authorities, at one point, with his various land grants, Sutter owned more than 150,000 acres of the Central Valley, and was a generous host to such colorful and historically important characters as John C. Fremont and Kit Carson, according to California State Parks.
School children from across the state tour Sutter’s Fort every year, and learn about life in California during the 1800’s through reenactments.
Will the Sutter Health Foundation change its name? How about Sutter Hospital? What about Sutter’s Fort? Will that become “The People’s Fort?” There is a Sutter County, the Sutter Buttes, Sutter Streets, Sutter Middle School… will all of that have to change now that Sutter Health caved under social pressure to remove the statue?
The cancel culture ignores the context and the era in which events happened. John Sutter should only be judged according to the culture and traditions of his times, not by uneducated, ignorant young grievance hustlers in 2020, who were taught social justice instead of Social Studies.
The spineless American corporate culture is making the cancel culture possible.

So now it is to be said about California history: “somebody did something there”. Cancel the California history classes and save money.
Just cancel California.
It always comes down to who allows this destruction, doesn’t it? How about taking a deep breath, spineless corporate culture, before making any big moves that you can’t take back? Why not wait and see if this ridiculous frenzy settles down a bit before being so anxious to take a knee? As business people you were taught that it was unwise to sign anything while under emotional shock or stress, weren’t you?
Looking at the photo that was chosen for this article reminds me that the California Missions have been on the leftist destroyers list for a long time and it’s not pleasant to think about what might become of them in the current climate, although the ones that still function as churches, as opposed to state parks, will not allow themselves to be desecrated or shut down, so they will probably be okay in the end. As you know, many have been vandalized over the years, often in anti-Catholic and anti-Christian ways that are too ugly to repeat here.
And next up in the anti-Catholic/Christian wars, will the destroyers go after city names? Sacramento, for instance? Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, San Diego, San Clemente, San Bruno, San Carlos, Los Angeles, SAN FRANCISCO? Why not, if this ridiculous campaign of destruction continues against the current mousy leadership? The destroyers hate the Cross, it BURNS. And the mush-spine politicians have no idea what they are dealing with.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS ANY COURAGE? THIS IS NOT GOING TO STOP UNTIL SOMEONE STANDS UP TO THIS! I DON’T SEE OR HEAR ANYONE IN CORPORATE OR POLITICAL LEADERSHIP STANDING AGAINST THIS “CANCEL CULTURE”! PEOPLE LIKE IDA RODRIGUEZ NEED TO BE TOLD NO AND TO SHUT THE HELL UP!!!! UNTIL THAT HAPPENS THEY WILL CANCEL EVERYTHING THAT THEY DEEM “RACIST” TELL THEM TO GO TO HELL!
The good people of Sutter Hospital have never studied California history. Sutter played a very important part in
helping the North win the civil war so slaves in the southern states could be set free. He established a lumber
mill in Coloma that led to the discovery of gold and resulted in the California gold rush. It was the gold from California that funded the Northern states during the Civil War and gave them the leading edge they needed to
defeat the Confederate states. Then a group of freed black slaves came to California after the war and established a community in the San Joaquin Valley with their own church and school. Read your history.
RM: This is good information; thank you for it.
One early morning, I was jogging in my neighborhood and by chance I encountered another neighbor jogging. We did know each other but agreed to jog together. After a brief time my neighbor discussed how “we” need to give back land to native Americans. I asked if he owned his home; yes was his reply. I then suggested if he truly was sincere he must give his home to a native American. He was dumbfounded and embarrassed by his shallow logic. He had no reply. I added that there is not one piece of habitable earth that has not been fought over multiple times with multiple victors. We all must preserve history and attempt to understand the context at that time. Like my neighbor the “cancel culture” are comprised of hateful individuals and weak minded people that have been indoctrinated that America is inherently evil. All countries/cultures have histories filled with the full spectrum of malevolent to benevolent acts all of which must be examined with the context of the time. We must confront the “cancel culture”.
They’re removing history so they can rewrite it.
Such a shame, Sutter’s Fort is so rich in California History. It can transform one back in time, getting a sense of what it was like.
@John the Patriot- Unfortunately, courage looks different to those now in leadership. The corporate world is now part of the globalist agenda. It is progressive thought.
History has been revised in most public schools to highlight the bad actors and negative acts of our past. Every human, every country on this earth has a history of unfavorable acts. The removal of art and statues removes the visual history. The very reminders of how far we have come as a society and yes the mistakes and the suffering.
The Marxist loving left is using the act of racism as a cover to divide and conquer this country.
The followers of Saul Alinksky, Cloward and Piven are very proud of themselves. They now have the useful idiots they have groomed to finish the job they started.
It does make me wonder how the story of the Donner Party will be taught in the future. Will we all be considered cannibals because of the drastic measures they took to stay alive?
