Judge Ursula Jones Dickson is New Alameda County District Attorney

The candidate AG Rob Bonta was pushing on the Alameda Board not chosen

Wow! The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted and announced a new district attorney Tuesday night – and it wasn’t the candidate that California Attorney General Rob Bonta was pushing on the Alameda Board.

The board chose Judge Ursula Jones Dickson, after three rounds of voting, ABC7 News reported. The board chose Jones Dickson instead of Bonta’s chief deputy Venus Johnson as the replacement for recalled DA Pamela Price.

Wow.

Did I say WOW?

Judge Ursula Jones Dickson was an Alameda County prosecutor from 1998 to 2013, before she was appointed to the bench.

As we reported Monday, “CA AG Rob Bonta is pushing his incompetent chief deputy Venus Johnson for Oakland DA. She is former director of Oakland’s Department of Public Safety, former legal and policy advisor to Kamala Harris when she was AG, and former chief assistant DA in Contra Costa County,” Journalist Susan Dyer Reynolds recently warned on X.

Thanks to excellent reporting by Susan Dyer Reynolds (and the Globe), Rob Bonta’s dubious candidate was not named.

“Jones-Dickson is an Alameda County Superior Court judge. She previously worked as a deputy DA for the county,” ABC7 reported.

Alameda County has issues – big corruption issues. Choosing a legitimate jurist and former prosecutor will make a difference.

Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Judge Ursula Jones Dickson to the Superior Court in Pleasanton in 2013.

Judge Jones Dickson will be sworn in as Alameda County District Attorney in February and serve in the role until the next general election in 2026, said ABC7.

Despite AG Rob Bonta pushing his weight around to get his chief deputy appointed as DA for the recalled Soros DA, sanity prevailed.

As we said, “There is a reason these Soros DAs were recalled.” Let the healing begin.

  1. Yes, indeed KG. It APPEARS that a little ‘common sense’ is seeping into these Soros sanctuaries. Perhaps there IS hope for change sooner than later. 😉

  2. YESSS!
    Excellent news, a real boost.
Yay and thank you again to Katy Grimes, CA Globe, and Susan Dyer Reynolds; such fine examples of honest journalism with integrity.

  3. Since the Harris implosion, I have been interested in what seems to be a W to E power shift in the Democrat center of gravity and upon such unexpected outcomes wonder just what may be going on under the political radar.

    1. Thanks,
From the selection process described in the article you provided, it appears rather than running from Prop 36 it is a compelling tool to improve criminal justice and public safety outcomes.
One thing stood out, that the new DA seems experienced, qualified and will not dismiss the long ignored Will of the People, and has enough support to make it happen.
