Greenberg: They Didn’t Get a Protest
So, it’s the messenger, not the policy

Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama both terminated hundreds of thousands of federal workers during each tenure, with barely a peep, if at all. They didn’t trigger mass protest for their actions.
Obama even deported over three million during his years in office. They didn’t get a protest.
Dr. Anthony Fauci who single-handedly led to eroding of trust in public health over his proclamations, mask mandates, distancing and school closures. He didn’t get a mass protest.
Yet these past few weeks that DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) has been exposing massive wasteful, unethical and fraudulent payments to dubious NGOs operating foreign and domestic, armchair pundits feign outrage and muster colleagues with signage to protest unelected Elon Musk and friends, a team working most effectively to uncover taxpayers’ money thrown down the drain, egregiously.
Elder George Soros and his son Alex, both unelected, repeatedly visited (up to 20 times and more) the highest ranking officials in the White House and halls of Congress to peddle their notorious influence, and saw no protests.
Here in San Francisco, we have unelecteds such as head of SFMTA , the Department of Public Health, the Director of Trans initiatives, the Fat Czar. All paid positions, not elected, and many paid greater than $200k annually. No mass protests over that spending. San Francisco’s Police and Fire Chiefs are not elected, and some have been deeply unpopular; neither is the powerful police commission elected. They didn’t get a mass protest. Neither is the director of our Recreation and Parks Department, Phil Ginsburg, elected. Controversial he has been, didn’t get a protest.
The members of the San Francisco Reparations Committee, which worked two years and came up with an unconstitutional, fiscally impossible, segregationist plan and earned over a quarter million dollars collectively, are not elected and never got a protest.
The list can go on and on with city commissioners and agency heads which in their own way have contributed to the ballooning city budget, red tape and inefficiency. And most are not elected. And none were protested.
It’s the messengers, of course. Washington is a new place now, with news of fired, replaced and confirmed agency heads. Elon Musk and his team unearth millions, even billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money wasted on needless and redundant federal spending both here and abroad. Much of Musk’s Doge team are not only exposing the egregious actions of the previous federal administration and its grant-making, but there is also much embarrassment to boot.
And here in San Francisco, local protesters are focused not on the fiscally insane leadership of city hall but on the federal Doge effort. It could be because they know, we know, the ramifications of the federal cuts will soon or later trickle down to hit the city’s coffers. It is estimated that over twenty percent of the city hall funding comes via federal money. That’s a significant hit, should it be cut off.
Don’t blame Trump, don’t yell at Musk and Doge. San Francisco has dozens of unelected commissioners and officials which have fiscally ruined the city, skirt accountability and they didn’t get a protest. The feeding frenzy by unaccountable NGOs has been long inviting of cuts. Those most vocal of the accountability measures are the ones most capitalizing on the fraud. Don’t shoot the messengers.
