Hollywood’s Crew Unions Endorse Karen Bass in L.A. Mayor’s Race

Hollywood’s below-the-line “crew” unions just endorsed incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for re-election in the June 2, 2026 primary.

The Hollywood Reporter made the announcement Wednesday:

The California IATSE Council, the political wing of the crew union IATSE in the state, revealed on Wednesday that it was endorsing Bass for the position due to “her consistent commitment to labor and the issues affecting union workers.” The same day, the American Federation of Musicians Local 47, representing a workforce of professional musicians including those working in film and television, also came out in favor of the incumbent mayor.

In its explanation of its support, the California IATSE Council cited Bass’ frequent communication with the union and her efforts to bring film and television production back to Los Angeles, “more … than anyone in city government.” Two executive orders that she has made as mayor aimed at cutting down on the municipal red tape faced by productions have also pleased the union.

The labor group additionally cited Bass’ support of a federal film and television tax credit, her involvement in workforce development efforts for the industry and her attention to labor amid planning for marquee events like the 2028 Summer Olympics, the expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center and the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

A Globe reader and “Concerned Citizen” wrote this commentary on the endorsement and gave us permission to print it – I think it speaks for itself:

Your union just lost whatever sliver of credibility you had by endorsing a completely corrupt, incompetent person like Karen Bass.  Just look at the abysmal track record of her first term.  It’s a complete joke and she proved without a shadow of a doubt that she is in so far over her head and has proven that she cannot come close to handling the job.  What movie were you watching because based on her first term she should have been removed from office for dereliction of duty, pervasive corruption and making the people of Los Angeles suffer tremendously.  Bass is unfit to run a lemon aide stand let alone be mayor of Los Angeles.  Shame on you guys for prolonging the agony of LA residents and crippling the earning power of your union members.  LA will continue to languish, suffer and residents will continue to live in a city with little to zero growth and new construction under another Bass term as mayor.  Give me a frickin break are you guys blind or just plain stupid?

Just so you know major cities with good, honest mayors have growth, economic prosperity with leaders who know how to lead and lead their cities to economic prosperity.  It’s been so long since anything positive happened in LA that it truly is almost impossible to believe that a complete idiot like Karen Bass could be rewarded with another term based on the complete and unmitigated disaster her first term represented.  You people are drinking the radical far left Kool Aide here folks while digging the huge hole LA is in much deeper.

There are no free lunches and your union members will suffer tremendously under a radical far left socialist/communist like Karen Bass.  Good luck looking for a ton of new construction work for your union workers with a leader like Bass who really has no idea how or what to do to make a city grow and prosper.  There won’t be a ton of new projects or construction under Bass’s leadership as she just doesn’t understand how to make capitalism work for the people of LA.  By endorsing Bass your union just handicapped every union members income as the upcoming work will be few and far between.  Hell, she can’t even issue building permits for the Palisades fire which happened over one and a half years ago.  How do you think the Palisades fire family victims feel about Karen Bass? I’ll give you one guess and it’s about as far from your head scratching position as it can get. Little to nothing has been done by the mayor to help the fire victims and I know Kristin Crowley your former Fire Chief is suing Bass over her complete and utter incompetence both before the fire and after.  I could go through the list like fire hydrants without water, diverting funds from the fire department for far left social experiments and the list just goes on and on, but we just don’t have the space here for the pages upon pages of Bass failures.

Your union is a light weight, apparently far left liberal organization whose leadership is either as stupid and corrupt as Bass and/or else someone on the radical far left has twisted your arm to get an endorsement for someone who has failed so incredibly miserably at her job as mayor.  Good luck my friends, it will be your bed and now you have to lay in it.  By the way, we also desperately need new, capable, uncorrupt leadership in the Governors office which if you endorsed Bass, I’m sure you also support by far the worst Governor in the entire US, Gavin Newsom.  Until these idiots are removed from office, California will continue to lead the nation in out migration, higher taxes, sanctuary policies, the highest crime and cost of living rates and blood sucking socialist leadership while the people of LA can’t pay their bills. And all this pain and suffering because California is providing illegal immigrants with free just about everything and charging hard working Americans for the bill. You do understand that your leaders are not upholding their sworn oath to do everything in their power to protect their constituents because they are taxing their constituents to death in order to provide and pay for free health care, and almost anything else for illegal immigrants.  These brain surgeons like Bass and Newsom also believe with all their might that illegal immigrants should be able to vote in US elections. No other country on earth does something that stupid because every soul on planet earth understands that you have no country when that is done. Why are leaders like Newsom and Bass trying to destroy California first and ultimately the entire country??

When you roll in the mud with the pigs, you both are going to get dirty, but the pigs are going to like it. Good luck to the IATSE Union which is rolling in the mud with the pigs right here and right now. Your union members won’t like it and after 4 more years of Bass (assuming she somehow wins) they will be looking to replace the completely ignorant, foolish imbeciles who currently lead the union and have voted to endorse a complete idiot like Karen Bass. Shame on you IATSE Local 871.
