Los Angeles County Has Largest Population Loss in Country, US Census Reports
Los Angeles County lost 322,480 residents in 5 years, and 54,000 in one year

Population growth slowed in a majority of the nation’s 3,143 counties and the District of Columbia between July 1, 2024, and July 1, 2025, according to the Vintage 2025 population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
How much of that is self-deportations?
According to the Census, “these shifts were largely due to lower levels of net international migration (NIM), which declined nationwide. Nine out of 10 U.S. counties experienced lower NIM levels between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, compared to the year prior. The one in 10 counties that did not see a drop in international migration did not see an increase either.”
And in California, with such record population losses due to out-migration, the state lost one Congressional seat recently. We learn now that the City and County of Los Angeles has the largest population losses among California cities and counties in recent years, the U.S. Census Bureau just reported.
Between April 2020 to July 2025, Los Angeles County, which had 10,017,414 residents in April 2020, dropped to 9,694,934 by July 2025 – a loss of 322,480 residents in 5 years.
Los Angeles County wasn’t alone in population losses; San Diego County, and Orange County show population losses.
Riverside County gained residents.
California wasn’t in the Top 10 Counties by Numeric Growth.
But we did make the Top 10 Counties by Numeric Decline: July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025:
Los Angeles County, while still the largest in the country by more than 4.5 million, declined the most in one year, by 53,934.
Perhaps even more telling are the growth stats.
Houston and Dallas Texas each grew by more than 120,000 bodies.
But the winning percentages of growth go to Florida and South Carolina:
The only things growing in California are taxes, debt, energy prices, the State Budget, the cost of the High Speed Train to nowhere, Medi-Cal fraud, homeless fraud, hospice fraud, teachers strikes, and the size of the governor’s multi-million dollar homes.
A real disaster for the Democratic Party! YEA.
Trump Train rolling at full steam!
Policies have consequences. Some are illegals self-deporting, but for others, it’s the cost of living, and some of it are members of the middle and upper class, who’ve relocated for lifestyle upgrades and safety.
These simple numbers become infinitely more fascinating when disaggragated by socio-economic factors; e.g., Race, Age, Income, etc. IOW, it’s not just quantity, it’s quality as well. Still mildly interesting stuff as is, though.
Wonder how many of the top 1% of earners in California have fled the state because of the Democrat’s punitive tax policies? Those taxpayers represent roughly 0.5% to 1% of all tax returns but they collectively pay almost 40% of California’s total personal income tax revenue. No doubt quite a few?
With an enormous welfare state to support along with their usual grift and graft, it’s no wonder that Democrat’s are now going after and destroying the state’s beleaguered and dwindling middle class with massive tax increases?
