Assemblywoman Megan Dahle Reveals She Had Stroke While Hospitalized In December

In a social media post on Wednesday, Assemblywoman Megan Dahle (R-Bieber) announced that during a hospitalization in December she had suffered a stroke, but is now currently in recovery and is set to return to the Assembly as soon as possible.

Dahle, an Assemblywoman since 2019 for the North State 1st District, and wife of Senator Brian Dahle (R-Bieber), was hospitalized before Christmas because of complications with her heart. However, before the procedure, a blood clot formed, causing Dahle to suffer a stroke. Doctors attending to her quickly fixed the issue, and during the last several weeks, Dahle has been in recovery. While she is not currently in Sacramento, she added in a post on X that she hopes to be back in the Assembly soon.

“While waiting for the procedure to correct my heart issue, a blood clot developed causing a stroke. Thanks to the quick response of the amazing medical team, the stroke was detected and treated immediately,” said Dahle in her statement.

In another statement, her chief of staff Erik Brahms added, “She has every intention of continuing her work and campaigning. She’s doing very well and is recovering. Dahle said she and her family are focusing on her recovery at this time. She will issue updates, but for now, this is what the family felt comfortable putting out there.”

Political experts said on Wednesday that while Dahle’s district is not at risk, the family name is very well known in Northern counties of California and that scrambling another candidate could prove to be something of a challenge for the GOP if one was needed on short notice.

“This is the first district, meaning Redding and Siskiyou County and other really Republican heavy areas,” said Northern California pollster Alberto Ryan to the Globe. “If Dahle couldn’t stay in office, the GOP would be just fine. But if she had to pull out, then getting a Republican candidate to jump in could be a bit of a slog. Not that there isn’t anyone who wouldn’t want it. There are many who would want it in fact, and going through everyone, or setting up an elections, would bring out a lot of people.”

“The Dahle’s are very well known up here, and people want to keep them in for as long as possible. But every county party worth their salt always has a few names in mind in case of a sudden special election.  Thing is, this is a big area with a lot of favored local candidates. It would be quite the special election.”

“Everyone is just glad that she is doing better. She’s proven to be popular like her husband and has been getting the job done. And with the session starting up again and this being an election year, she needs to get through this recovery soon, because this is going to be one crazy year.”
