CA Legislature Promoting Illegal Immigrants Over California’s Taxpaying Citizens
‘Does it even mean anything to be a citizen anymore?’

Migrants. Undocumented residents. Undocumented immigrants. Undocumented Population. People who are unlawfully present. Noncitizens. Illegal aliens.
Whatever you choose to call people who illegally crossed the Southern border, or were flown into the country by the Biden Administration, they are in the country illegally and are illegal aliens, according to the federal government.
Unlawful border crossings are criminal offenses.
And people who are in the country illegally are not entitled to taxpayer support.
A city without walls is a city without hope. A country without borders is not a country.
Yet the Democrat nominee for President claimed, “An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.” Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.), tweet, April 21, 2017.
California’s Supermajority Democrat lawmakers are no better – they want to give public taxpayer money to illegal immigrants for a downpayment on a home purchase.
“California democrats love illegal immigration so much they offer many incentives for them to come here,” Assemblyman Bill Essayli said in the Assembly Wednesday during floor debate of AB 1840. “Today, the Assembly just voted to give illegal immigrants free down payment assistance (up to $150k) to buy a house a new home. Thats on top of providing free health care and free college tuition. Does it even mean anything to be a citizen anymore?”
Indeed. Assemblyman Essayli asks the right question.
When 53 members of the California Assembly and 25 members of the California Senate vote to give illegal aliens up to $150,000 free down payment to buy a house a new home, on top of providing free health care and free college tuition, the state’s legal citizens and taxpayers have every reason to question their mental health, as well as whether they even work for the people anymore.
Support by 83 members of the California Legislature of AB 1840 demonstrates plainly that elected lawmakers hold “the people” in such low regard they are willing to replace citizens with illegal aliens by propping them up with everything they need – a home, health care and education.
The bill analysis for Assembly Bill 1840 explains its purpose:
to “Expand opportunities for California households to accumulate wealth for themselves and their families, including ensuring that design of the loan product is not an unreasonable impediment to homeowner wealth creation.”
Democrats want illegal aliens to accumulate wealth, but not you or your family.
Notice that Democrats say “California households” and not “illegal immigrants,” as if all California households will benefit from this bill.
We all know or have adult children who are unable to purchase a home in California because of the extraordinarily high cost. California’s media home price is now more than $850,000. In Los Angeles the median home price is more than $1 million. The median home price in San Francisco is $1.4 million.
That’s median home price – the average home price.
Assembly Bill 1840 (D-Arambula), would give California taxpayer dollars to illegal immigrants to help them purchase a home.
The California Housing Finance Authority has a loan program called the California Dream for All Shared Appreciation program, which provides up to $150,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers.
The program offers up to 20% for down payment or closing costs, not to exceed $150,000.
There are county income limits on the program, from a low of $139,000 (Del Norte, Fresno, Colusa) to a high of $295,000 (San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa).
Oh – the program ran out of money within weeks of its creation in 2023.
The Globe reported that the bill’s sponsor is the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), which says, “AB 1840 would ensure immigration status is not a barrier when accessing housing services…” The the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), lists that it received $33.4 in government grants on its 2023 IRS Form 990. Why don’t California’s Democrats ask the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights provide the down payments for illegal immigrants since they already rake in $34 million of taxpayer funds?
This is California today. California used to be the land of opportunity, where anyone with a good idea, a strong back and plenty of drive could move to, open up a small business and have a pretty nice life.
Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez (R-Murrieta) told her fellow lawmakers Wednesday that a vote to pass AB 1840 was a vote for more illegal immigration.
“For the first time in 25 years, California is home to the busiest illegal point of entry in the United States. Immigrants look to California’s current policies like a giant welcome sign. Welcome to California where illegal immigrants get free healthcare, free food and now a free home with 0% down. This isn’t rocket science. If you’re giving out free stuff, more people are going to come.”
Sanchez noted that the Dream for All Californians program ran out of funds within two weeks.
“That’s how immense the demand for this program is.”
“How fair is it for people who have had to endure the affordability crisis, and this Legislature continue to not only ignore, but make it worse?”
Assemblywoman Sanchez said she is the granddaughter of legal immigrants, and told colleagues that it is not fair at all that legal citizens have to share the home purchase program with illegal immigrants, who broke the law to get into this country.
Sanchez said there are one million Californians who live in deep poverty and 200,000 who live on the streets. “And here we are talking about giving our free home loans to illegal immigrants.”
“Do we have no shame?” Sanchez asked.
We know the answer… leftists lack self-awareness and have no ability to feel shame.
I just wish Democrats loved California as much as the taxpaying people do.

Who doubts that California CITIZENS fiercely support you and what you are saying?
By the way, have Gov Newsom and the Supermajority Dem-Marxist legislature not yet figured out that the eyes of the nation are focused on them like a laser beam because the Democrat Presidential candidate, one Kamala Harris, is from California? This kind of nonsense is getting a lot of coverage in the national press and, as much as it may surprise and perhaps even offend CA’s Dem politicians, much of California’s legislation is shocking and/or perceived as ridiculous to the rest of the country.
Most of us already knew that California had become a laughingstock in the rest of the country, and stuff like what our majority Dem-Marxist politicians routinely come up with is why. Therefore Gov Newsom and the Supermajority Dem legislators might want to consider backing off from the usual nonsense while under the spotlight. Unless they LIKE the screaming laughter and backlash, of course. Which is possible.
Look at a photo of Democrat Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula who is pushing this crazy legislation catering to illegal aliens over U.S. citizens. Doesn’t he look like a murderous thug who belongs to one of the cartels?
Democrats in power have become the party of lawless criminals most of whom are evil pedophile satanists that guzzle adrenochrome? They’re demonic? We are witnessing a battle between good and evil in California and across the globe?
Can’t disagree, TJ!
Democrat Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula was arrested on December 10, 2018, on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child after his 7 year old daughter had alleged that her father hit her on the face while he was wearing a ring. During trial, photos were shown to jurors that showed a 1-inch bruise on the child’s right temple. The daughter said she remembered telling authorities that he slapped her face, but she said during the trial that the appropriate word was “grasp.” The 7-year-old girl later said on the stand that her father had also squeezed her to the point where she struggled to breathe.
Fresno County Assistant Dist. Atty. Steven Wright told the jury that Arambula’s children had alleged a history of abuse at the hands of their father. “You’ll hear the other instances of him being upset, losing his temper and committing other acts of violence against his children, such as squeezing, such as kicking, such as hitting, such as elbowing,” Wright said.
In May 2019, a Fresno jury found Arambula not guilty.

Thanks TJ. I believe that Child Protective Services would have a file on Arambula even though he was found “not guilty” in his trial. Seems to me that this guy should have zero credibility on any legislation related to children.
Certainly seems possible, Raymond. “Not guilty” does not mean “innocent.” As I’m sure you know.
But if a jury finds you “not guilty” you’re probably not going to remove yourself from voting nor resign your assembly seat, unless there is pressure on you to do so. And I can’t imagine the CA legislature, as we know it, forcing the issue. Even if they do —or should —have such rules.
It’s very sad about the kids, though, because the accusations have the ring of truth (from the little we know).
Good stuff as usual TJ. Who knew? I didn’t.
Thanks Katy for another great article. Thanks Showandtell and TJ for your imput.
Here we are in California with inflation off the charts, gasoline off the charts and our cities like Oakland are destroyed with drugs, crime, homeless and bankrupchy. Our defunctional State Assembly and Senate, including Newsom are giving away our tax paying dollars to illegals, instead of the needs of our citizens.
This is why I support Donald Trump for President! This is why I am running for Oakland City Council At Large in 2024.
I read AB1840, and that’s now what the bill actually says. There are two categories of “illegal immigrants” – the first is wholly undocumented and the second is documented – participants in the DACA (dreamers), individuals under the Temporary Protected Status law, refugees and asylum seekers waiting to have their case adjudicated, those who overstayed a once legal visa, and noncitizen family members of legal immigrants and citizens the government chooses not to deport. All have social security numbers or ITIN’s, pay taxes, and many have work authorizations, and since they would be applying for a mortgage, they have to show proof of income and tax documentation and prove to the bank there is a reasonable chance they will be around long enough to pay the mortgage.
