San Francisco Backs Down on Declaring NRA ‘Domestic Terrorist Organization’
Mayor Breed Declares – ‘We Won’t Blacklist NRA Contractors’

The Second Amendment wins again. The San Francisco Supervisors recently decided to back off on their recent declaration that the National Rifle Association and its membership are “domestic terrorists.”
Guess why? The NRA sued.
In early September, the San Francisco City and County Board of Supervisors passed a Resolution declaring the National Rifle Association “a domestic terrorist organization.”
The NRA challenged the Supervisors’ resolution “as government action adversely affecting its First Amendment rights.”
Notably, besides naming NRA members “terrorists,” the San Francisco Supervisors’ Resolution also claimed the NRA “musters its considerable wealth and organizational strength to promote gun ownership and incite gun owners to acts of violence,” as the Globe reported.
“In its’ filing, the NRA called the resolution a ‘blacklisting’ measure, and urged San Francisco’s federal court to ‘step in and instruct elected officials that freedom of speech means you cannot silence or punish those with whom you disagree.’
Rather than await to be ordered by a court of law, San Francisco Mayor London Breed backed down last week. The NRA reported: “In a formal memorandum to City officials, she declared that ‘no [municipal] department will take steps to restrict any contractor from doing business with the NRA or to restrict City contracting opportunities for any business that has any relationship with the NRA.’”
It’s interesting that the San Francisco Supervisors think that people who belong to the NRA and use their guns for target practice at the shooting range are the problem, and not those obtaining guns illegally.
The NRA did a victory lap: “The memo serves as a clear concession and a well-deserved win for the First and Second Amendments of the United States Constitution,” says William A. Brewer III, partner at Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors and counsel for the NRA. “It is unfortunate that in today’s polarized times, some elected officials would rather silence opposing arguments than engage in good-faith debate. The NRA – America’s oldest civil rights organization – won’t stand for that.”
The San Francisco Supervisors’ declaration that law-abiding gun owners and their official organization “domestic terrorists” was so far out-of-bounds it teetered on the Third-World tyrannical, autocratic rule.
Also notable, the Supervisors’ Resolution mentions the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, but fails to mention the Second Amendment, which guarantees “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Good for the NRA.
