The Insurance Code contains 5 Divisions

The California Insurance Code is one of 29 Codes that contain state statutes. The Insurance Code contains 5 Divisions. There are also numerous parts, chapters, and articles containing hundreds of code sections, or individual statutes. The following is a broad overview of the Insurance Code.

GENERAL PROVISIONS [Sections 1 – 48]

There are 54 Sections.

DIVISION 1. GENERAL RULES GOVERNING INSURANCE [Sections 100 – 1879.8]

There are 2 Parts, 41 Chapters, and 156 Articles.

DIVISION 2. CLASSES OF INSURANCE [Sections 1880 – 12880.6]

There are 12 Parts, 81 Chapters, and 183 Articles.

DIVISION 3. THE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER [Sections 12900 – 13813]

There are 5 Chapters and 9 Articles.

DIVISION 4. AFFORDABLE HOUSING ENTITIES RISK RETENTION POOL [Sections 13900 – 13907]

There are 8 Sections.

DIVISION 5. INSURANCE ADJUSTERS [Sections 14000 – 16032]

There are 3 Chapters and 22 Articles.
