Assembly Speaker Creates New Budget Subcommittee
Speaker Rivas appointed Assemblymembers Sharon Quirk-Silva and Avelino Valencia to the Budget Committee

Today, November 21, 2023, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas announced his anticipated changes of standing committee chairs.
First, Speaker Rivas appointed Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel to replace Assemblymember Phil Ting as Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee. In addition, Speaker Rivas appointed Assemblymembers Sharon Quirk-Silva and Avelino Valencia to the Budget Committee. Assemblymembers Mia Bonta, Wendy Carrillo, and Kevin McCarty were removed from the committee, creating a Democratic vacancy.
Second, Speaker Rivas created a new Budget Subcommittee and renumbered five of the subcommittees as follows:
Budget Subcommittee No. 1 on Health Assemblymember Akilah Weber remains as Chair (Subcommittee No. 1 had been on Health and Human Services)
Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Human Services Assemblymember Corey Jackson is Chair (this is a new subcommittee).
Budget Subcommittee No. 3 on Education Finance Assemblymember David Alvarez is Chair (this had been Subcommittee No. 2 and Kevin McCarty was Chair)
Budget Subcommittee No. 4 on Climate Crisis, Resources, Energy, and Transportation Assemblymember Steve Bennett remains as Chair (this had been Subcommittee No. 3)
Budget Subcommittee No. 5 on State Administration Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva as Chair of Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 5 on State Administration (this had been Subcommittee No. 4 and Wendy Carrillo was Chair)
Budget Subcommittee No. 6 on Public Safety Assemblymember James Ramos is Chair (this had been Subcommittee No. 5 and Mia Bonta was Chair)
Budget Subcommittee No. 7 on Accountability and Oversight Assemblymember Avelino Valencia is Chair (Subcommittee No. 6 had been Budget Process, Oversight, and Program Evaluation and Phil Ting was Chair)

Fed Up that is a very timely comment. Mid-year is right around the corner and there hasn’t been much talk about the revenue collected. All of these budget subcommittees are subjected to being squeezed and the state being reorganized.
