President Trump to Arrive in California Tomorrow

Tomorrow President Trump will arrive in California to tour the extensive damage caused by the horrific wildfires plaguing the state and meet with victims who have suffered great losses.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said yesterday “The president will travel to California this Saturday to meet with individuals impacted by the wildfires,” and “we will keep you updated on details as they are available.” It remains unclear which parts of the state Trump will be visiting.

The announcement comes after much criticism of the president for not coming earlier. Furthermore, Trump and Governor Brown have once again butted heads over the cause of the fire and California’s preventative measures.

On Monday, Brown blamed the fire on climate change stating “managing all the forests in everywhere we can, does not stop climate change,” Brown said. “And those who deny that are definitely contributing to the tragedies that we’re now witnessing, and will continue to witness in the coming years.”

President Trump fired back noting California’s “poor” forest management and saying “with proper Forest Management, we can stop the devastation constantly going on in California. Get Smart!”

Then, on Tuesday the president threatened to hold back federal funding under the premise that taxpayer money would be wasted due to the lack of the state’s preventative measures. However, after further consideration the president signed a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration at the Governor’s request.

The declaration’s approved funding will go to help people in the impacted counties through eligibility for support including crisis counseling, housing and unemployment assistance and legal services. It also provides public assistance to help state and local governments with ongoing emergency response and recovery.

After a surprising no-show appearance in the Golden State to help fellow Republicans during a tough midterm election cycle, this weekend’s visit will be the first time Trump has been to California since March when he was inspecting prototypes to enhance border wall security.

Upon learning of President Trump’s visit, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was fond of the news stating, “I welcome the president’s visit to see the extent of the damage from these ongoing wildfires, and look forward to working with his administration to ensure California receives all the federal support possible in the response and recovery.”
