The FBI is investigating after one or more unidentified people fired several rounds at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in central Phoenix, striking the exterior of the federal building in multiple locations.

The shooting occurred during the afternoon of Tuesday, July 14, at the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations office on North Central Avenue, according to a statement from the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office reported by Fox10 Phoenix. No injuries were reported.

“One or more unidentified people discharged rounds that struck the exterior in various parts of the structure,” the FBI said in a statement posted to X.

Video recorded outside the office showed apparent bullet holes in several windows. Authorities have not released the number or caliber of rounds fired or the direction from which the shots originated.

The FBI has not announced a possible motive, identified any suspects, or indicated whether investigators believe the building was specifically targeted because it houses federal immigration officers.

The Phoenix ERO Field Office is located at 2035 North Central Avenue, north of downtown Phoenix. Enforcement and Removal Operations is the ICE division responsible for identifying, arresting, detaining, and removing foreign nationals who are subject to removal under federal immigration law.

A protest was held outside the building later Tuesday, although authorities have not indicated that the demonstration was connected to the shooting, according to Arizona’s Family.

The FBI publicly announced the investigation Thursday, two days after the gunfire. Investigators asked anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has information about the shooting to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip through the bureau’s online portal.

The shooting comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding federal immigration officers and facilities. The Department of Homeland Security has reported a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against ICE officers and a 3,300% increase in vehicle attacks.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News that ICE will ensure each arrest team includes an officer wearing a body camera. The department described nationwide deployment of the cameras as a priority amid the reported increase in attacks against immigration officers. The Phoenix field office oversees ICE enforcement operations across Arizona. In May, Homeland Security officials joined Phoenix-based officers during a series of targeted immigration operations in the state, according to an ICE announcement.

The FBI investigation remains ongoing. No arrests had been announced as of publication.
