LA County Chief Medical Officer Rejects COVID-19 ‘Media Hype’

Refutes Barbara Ferrer’s assessment; ‘a lot of people have really bad colds is what we are seeing’

“Two officials at one of the largest hospital systems in Los Angeles and Southern California dismissed government officials’ statements about another wave of COVID-19 hitting the region and the United States as ‘media hype,’” The Epoch Times reported Sunday.

This flies in the face of Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer’s announcement on Thursday that Los Angeles County has officially reached the “High” level of new COVID-19 cases and County hospitalization rates, giving the County two weeks to fall back below or else mandatory indoor masking mandates return, as the Globe reported.

Ferrer has been teasing with the “high” level of COVID-19 transmission” indoor mask mandates will likely come back.

“In a news conference on July 13, Brad Spellberg, the chief medical officer of Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center, and epidemiologist Paul Holtom, said that there have been no changes in the transmission levels of COVID-19.”

“Our Covid situation – it’s just the same. It has not changed,” Spellberg said. He showed a graph and said, “it’s plateaued and has not gone down.”

Dr. Spellberg said they are seeing thousands of people with Covid, “but it is mild, and they go home,” he said.

He said of the patients who are admitted to the hospital, “90% of the time it is not due to Covid. Only 10% of our Covid-positive admissions are due to Covid.”

“None of them go to the ICU, and when they do, it is not for pneumonia,” he added. “They are not intibated. We have not seen one of those since February.”

“A lot of people have really bad colds is what we are seeing, Spellberg said.

“’It is just not the same pandemic that it was, despite all the media hype to the contrary… I mean … a lot of people have bad colds is what we’re seeing,” Spellberg added.”

“So many people are testing at home and not reporting that in,” Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Holtom said. “No one has any idea how many are actually testing positive.”

So where did Barbara Ferrer get her numbers to justify indoor masking again?

“It was announced that LA County had finally broken through the 10 or more hospitalizations per 100,000 people threshold, which, according to the CDC, means that LA now is back to the ‘High’ community level,” the Globe reported. “With LA County at 10.5, and the new BA.4 and BA.5 variants amounting to 81% of new cases, Dr. Ferrer noted on Thursday that the County that it looked like masks would be coming back by July 29th.”

“As of today, we have moved from the medium to the “High” COVID community level,” Ferrer said during a public briefing. “If the county remains in the CDC-designated High level for two consecutive weeks, we will again impose a universal mandatory indoor mask-wearing mandate.”

The two doctors dismissed Ferrer’s claims, and said the Public Health Officer’s assessment doesn’t match the numbers.

“We’re just seeing nobody with severe Covid symptoms,’ Holtom added.

“As of this morning, we have no one in the hospital who had pulmonary disease due to COVID. Nobody in the hospital … Nobody. Nobody who had COVID-19 disease as we would see it in the past. So I guess it is hard to get a little more excited,” he said.

  • Ferrer is a shill for Newsom and both DEPEND on keeping the "health emergency" alive to feel important and to be able to violate the peoples' Constitutional rights with impunity. You would think businesses in L.A. County would rebel and not comply, as well as customers. But when I see people driving alone in my neighborhood, with the windows up, and wearing a mask, you know buffoonery is a strong force in L.A. I will not comply. I've had enough. And if businesses comply, I will spend my money in Orange and Ventura counties. They appreciate the business.

  • First of all, thank the good Lord that these two L.A. County and USC doctors had the cajones to speak up and put the lie to Fake Doctor Barbara Ferrer's phony assertions at a crucial time. Second, although many of us already knew that half-truths such as calling all E.R. visits by people with the sniffles "hospitalizations" (even though such people are sent home to take care of their cold with some hot tea) have been one of the phony premises of Ferrer's and Newsom's bogus color-tiered alarm bells going off, these people and their ilk ignored and doubled-down so much on their charade that this preposterous lie was quickly buried and forgotten. Third, isn't it convenient that the very panic Ferrer seeks to instill in the public consciousness is the reason people are constantly testing themselves with the false-positive-ridden PCR tests as well as panicky trips to the local emergency rooms, which tests and visits are themselves then used as the basis to trigger Ferrer's own made-up, phony Chicken Little act? Which is then used to create more panic and justify ANOTHER of her crackdowns mandating masks and social distancing (and lockdowns-to-come, I'm sure), which have been fully proven to be completely ineffective and even harmful in the extreme?

Ferrer, Newsom, the three leftist members of the five-member Board of Supervisors (also known as The Five Kings) and all the rest of that like-minded gang are interested in a lot of things, such the unlimited power of a tyrant and lots of money and ease, but obviously what they are DEFINITELY NOT interested in is the public's health and well-being. And their freedom and personal agency. As you know.

    • P.S. I'll be sending this Katy Grimes article to my L.A. County Supervisor this morning. I was really glad to see this thing had gone viral --- people are tweeting the news all over the place. If you live in L.A. County, consider helping to fill up the supes' in-boxes with this checkmating turn of events.

(NOTE: Barger and Hahn are the most sensible of the bunch. Kuehl, Mitchell, and Solis are the leftist vote majority.)

    • Many people who have been Covid-frightened by officials like Ferrer are using rapid home tests. Studies have shown that nearly half of the "positive-Covid" cases, using these tests, are FALSE-positive when double checked using PCR. In the words of a famous Democrat - "The only thing we have to fear is FEAR itself."

  • Why would you believe a doctor that works for a USC Hospital? USC typically will not terminate a doctors contract for horrile misconduct, they move them to another building so they can continue making USC money. That organization is about making money, and not spreading thruth. A USC board of trustee (Rick Caruso) is running for office, and funded by USC. I would like to see a doctor from one of USC's donor named hospitals (Keck) come out to say that the Public Health Dept is spreading misinformation

    • Common sense, verified by two L.A. County/USC Medical Center physicians who are sticking their necks out and will likely be attacked for it, speaks for itself.

  • Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Los Angeles County Public Health Director: PhD, Social Welfare, not medicine, not virology, not immunology. Her total pay in 2021 was $557,625.00.
Is it any wonder she wants this scam to continue?

And then there's the fact that she's one of the few people who actually looks better with a mask on than off.

    • You're not kidding, Ted. Grifters like Ferrer want to stay on the public payroll as long as possible. Just look at our Grifter in Chief, Biden - 40+ years.

  • Show us the "virus"
Nobody ever has because there never was a contagion not even one that "escaped from a labortory"
What is a case? What is the "test" testing for if there is no material to test against? Loonacy from lunatics who are frightened to discuss/debate this in public.
The test that drives the "cases" is fake and these liars like Ferrar are too afraid to answer basic questions or go out in public. Yes she needs to hide in her bacteria laden mask, but nobody else should be wearing one, only the criminals who are hurting people.

  • The fog of Covidacy just might be lifting. It is about time doctors start to speak out. Now if only the local news channels will halt the fear porn, people might want to get back to living a pre-covid life!

    • I know, it DOES seem to be lifting with this latest bombshell, Cali Girl. Would be great if it lifted for good. (knock wood)

      • That would be great ShowandTell. Barbara Ferrer will not easily give up her tight grip on power, it will take brave rational doctors and scientists to keep speaking truth such as these two fine doctors.

        • It's true, Cali Girl. Also if one merely scans the local and national news it's clear ---- as I'm sure you know ----- that there is an attempt to drag the mask mandates back into public life which is undeniably coordinated; e.g., San Diego schools, Orange County schools, statements by the bogus health officers on the national scene and from the usual news platforms elsewhere. We already had the mask mandate pop up again recently in Alameda County (as you know), which I understand has since been dropped because data comparison of other counties showed no effect. A surprising moment of sanity, it seems! Or something..... So we will see if what has been revealed by these particular LAC/USC physicians has an effect on Fake Doctor Ferrer, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors and, most of all, on citizen non-compliance, which might be even more important than the govt dictators' decrees.

    • Amen! Well said! I just got back from vacationing around the United States and let me tell you every other state I visited is going on with life as normal.

  • It's refreshing to hear a calm, realistic, non-fear-mongering report on the situation from doctors who are in a good position to see "the big picture." Thank you to Dr. Spellberg and Dr. Holtom for speaking out, and thanks also to the Epoch Times and Katy Grimes for accurately reporting instead of echoing and amplifying Ferrer's "hype."

Public health officials across the U.S. have become "unelected governments" having far too much power to decide how people can and can't live. Governors (Newsom is a prime example) have misused their emergency powers to become dictators. It's time for state legislators and other elected officials to fulfill their responsibility to make public policy that considers *all* the relevant needs and factors, instead of allowing dictator-governors and mini-dictator public health officials to usurp that role.

  • Hope these two doctors don't get "Arkancided" for telling the truth and exposing the global lie in one of the major "hot spots" for the Democrat's midterm election shutdown, V2....
But good on 'em for speaking the truth....

    • And if they do meet an untimely death it will be reported that they died of SARS-CoV 19.

      Kidding, not kidding.

  • Anyone still wearing a mask (and there are way too many in L.A.) needs a mental health check.
