What Is in California’s Unemployment Insurance Code?

The California Unemployment Insurance Code is one of 29 Codes that contain state statutes. The UI Code, as it is commonly referred to, contains 8 Divisions. There are also numerous parts, chapters, and articles containing hundreds of code sections, or individual statutes. The following is a broad overview of the Unemployment Insurance Code.

GENERAL PROVISIONS [Sections 1 – 21]

There are 22 Sections.

DIVISION 1. UNEMPLOYMENT AND DISABILITY COMPENSATION [Sections 100 – 4751]

There are 4 Parts, 23 Chapters, and 69 Articles.

DIVISION 1.5. AUTOMATION OF THE EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT [Sections 4900 – 4903]

There is 1 Chapter.

DIVISION 3. EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAMS [Sections 9000 – 11024]

There is 1 Part, 7 Chapters, and 12 Articles.

DIVISION 6. WITHHOLDING TAX ON WAGES [Sections 13000 – 13101]

There are 6 Chapters.

DIVISION 7. CALIFORNIA WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT [Sections 14000 – 14531]

There are 6 Chapters and 9 Articles.

DIVISION 8. California Green Collar Jobs Act of 2008 [Sections 15000 – 15003]

There are 4 Sections.

DIVISION 9. CALWORKS PROGRAM: JOB CREATION [Sections 17000 – 17002]

There are 3 Sections.
