Dem Senators Want Law Enforcement Unmasked – Yet Mandated Mask Wearing for 3 Years’ in CA During COVID

‘We’re seeing the rise of secret police — masked, no identifying info, even wearing army fatigues — grabbing & disappearing people’

By Katy Grimes, June 16, 2025 12:16 pm

ICE agents wear masks primarily for their safety, as they face threats and harassment from the public, including doxing and death threats against their families.

But Democrats are now pushing for ICE agents and members of law enforcement to unmask themselves.

California State Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Jesse Arreguin (D-Berkeley) are the authors of SB 627, the “No Secret Police Act” to prohibit law enforcement at all levels from covering their faces while conducting operations in the state of California.

The bill also requires officers to be identifiable on their uniform.

“As the Trump Administration expands the use of secret police tactics, SB 627 boosts transparency and supports public safety by bolstering public trust in law enforcement,” Sen. Wiener and Arreguin said in a press statement Monday.

Ironically, these are the same people who mandated masks on everyone’s faces in California, including babies and children, during the coronavirus flu outbreak, while locking 4o0 million people down for 3 years.

It’s as nutty as California Governor Gavin Newsom calling President Donald Trump an authoritarian, when Newsom ordered California locked down for 3 years, mandated masks, social distancing and the covid shot, to go back to work and school.

Newsom is an authoritarian. Democrats are authoritarians.

Remember in 2022, the Globe reported on their dictatorial orders and legislation:

Numerous fast-tracked bills in the California Legislature involve forced COVID-19 vaccinations for children for school enrollment, allowing minor children to make their own vaccine decisions away from a parent, requiring health care staff to complete cultural humility training to provide trans-inclusive health care, and, another would force law enforcement officials to enforce public health orders.

And this is being done with the Legislature waiving the 30-day in print rule so that bills can be acted upon more quickly.

When did the California Legislature become so autocratic?

So the same long-time legislative authoritarians, tyrants, totalitarians, who forced Californians to mask-up and take a shot they didn’t want are now demanding that law enforcement officers unmask their faces, and wear a name tag on their uniforms.

Again, this is quite ironic since U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) deliberately did not have his US Senate pin on as required, when he barged into Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference last week, and tried to rush the podium while she was talking.

“The recent federal operations in California have created an environment of profound terror. If we want the public to trust law enforcement, we cannot allow them to behave like secret police in an authoritarian state,” said Senator Wiener. “Law enforcement officers do critically important work to keep our communities safe, and they should be proud to show their faces and provide identifying information when doing so. It boosts trust in law enforcement, which makes it easier for law enforcement to do their jobs and makes California safer for all of us.”

“Secret police behavior tanks trust & must end,” Wiener said on X. “We’re seeing the rise of secret police — masked, no identifying info, even wearing army fatigues — grabbing & disappearing people. It’s antithetical to democracy & harms communities. The No Secret Police Act can help end the fear & chaos this behavior creates in communities.”

Wiener and Arreguín are copying House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who said that ICE agents arresting criminal illegal immigrants should not be wearing masks. Jeffries said Tuesday that ICE agents who attempt to conceal “their identities from the American people, will be unsuccessful in doing that” and they will all be identified “no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes,” Fox News reported.

Fox News reported:

House Speaker Mike Johnson was asked Friday “so you’re okay with these agents sort of not identifying themselves when they’re arresting migrants?”

“Why? So that they can target them?” he responded. “So they can put their names and faces online and dox them? That’s what these activists do. So we have to protect those who protect our communities.

“And it’s absurd for anybody, members of Congress or any other elected leader, to be calling out ICE for trying to do their job. They’ve made it difficult for them to do it for years, and I just think it’s patently absurd,” Johnson also said.

Ditto.

Senators Wiener and Arreguín should be more careful – they are letting their totalitarian impulses show. And their ignorance is on display – States cannot dictate federal law enforcement uniforms, and have no jurisdiction over what federal law enforcement does.

  1. Interesting to watch. Big shout out to whoever maintains the podium.
Scott Wiener, forced to manage an acute case of severe microphonic E.(D).

  2. Report is the California Democrat party has ordered 200 pallets of bricks for their “peaceful” protests. No doubt the antifa brick throwers are all wearing masks.

  3. Authoritarianism? Totalitarianism? That’s rich, you rancid, unapologetic jackbooted Democrat politicians. Namely, Gavin Newsom, Scott Wiener, Jesse Arreguin, Hakim Jeffries, and the entire clueless gang. Look in the mirror if you want to see what an autocrat is, what you have so recklessly (and insincerely) called others. The unmitigated GALL of you people. Haven’t you had enough?

You Democrat politicians and your flying monkeys did everything you could possibly do to dead-stop the lives of your fellow citizens, and thought you had a right to do it, when you absolutely did NOT. The wreckage, personal and economic, from locking us down, mandating deadly and injurious vaccines, mandating face masks symbolic of your desire to shut us up and shut us down, etc., while you worked like beavers making right wrong and wrong right and checked off all of the items on your leftist wish list, we are STILL recovering from more than five years later.

Never mind that recent disruptive and violent antics throughout our country show us you are still at it. Seemingly without end There has been no acknowledgment, no apology for the harm you have purposefully done. Not exactly a winning formula for you, is it?

  4. Refreshing. Even you fascist sympathizers don’t want masked men in LE. Just think about when we come for your guns, Chuck.

    ❤️ Resist.

    1. Adam Silverstein, that sounds like a Jewish last name? How do you feel about masked pro-Hamas and anti-Israel thugs attacking Jewish students on California’s public schools and college campuses? Do they meet your definition of fascists? When are your Democrat legislative leaders like Senator Scott Wiener and the other Democrats on the Legislative Jewish Caucus going to do something to stop the ongoing anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish students in California’s public schools and colleges instead of attacking law enforcement who are trying to protect Jewish students?

      1. Perhaps a vague reference to someone so named, who often reads written rants to an empty senate chamber, while intermittently peering into a lens over his glasses.
        AKA, “The Lizard King.”

    2. The Democrats are already coming for everyone’s guns. That’s how totalitarian governments work. Disarm the citizens, and then kill some of them WITH GUNS until they are in compliance. You didn’t think the Democrats were disarming the public for their safety did you?

  5. What a creepy looking ghoul Wiener is. Like many in his cabal, evil in his soul at uncharted depths of depravity based on his past actions. But he and the dems get free pass from the media including the so called conservative media.

    1. It is that vacant coastal affect endemic to leftists who metabolize only to share their collective loathing of freedom.

  6. Neither is a smart person. They both read from out of the (d) leftist playbook of victimology, with cookie cut patterns of logic, and irrelevant accusations borne of unequalled ignorance of the police or military’s role in protecting citizens during civil unrest.
I pray Trump moves on them like C.E Callwell.

  7. Katy Grimes is right that legislative Democrats are authoritarian bullies who have no problem with their protesting/rioting/looting thugs having masks but not law enforcement who are trying to protect us. Maybe legislative Democrats should be held accountable if their policies result in law enforcement being doxxed? Legislative Democrats are public servants who should be identifiable when they’re on official state business and they should wear name tags just like they want for law enforcement?

As for creepy Democrat Senator Scott Wiener who looks like he climbed out of a crypt, he’s all for protecting criminals and illegal aliens (especially minors) but not legal law abiding California citizens. As a member of the Democrat Legislative Jewish Caucus, he’s also done absolutely nothing to stop the ongoing anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish students in California’s public schools and colleges. He’s a complete failure and he should resign.

  8. We demand rioters be unmasked! Anyone wearing a mask or hoodie must be arrested on sight for conspiracy to riot. Sauce for the Goose/Sauce for the Gander!

  9. Sort of reminded me of a Bud Abbott doppelganger presenting next to a sanctuary version of (((Transfrankenstein-the-Legislaver)))

  10. Shouldn’t elected public “servants” be accessible to their constituency? And in service to this concept (you know, democracy and all that jazz) shouldn’t their personal addresses be easily and publicly available, in order to better serve* the public? Not just their official offices, which could be closed when a constituent needs to engage them in a dialog, but their home address, so they can be contacted at any time to serve* the voters of the district. So maybe there should be an initiative to make such information easily accessible, in the interests of accessible democracy. Goose, gander.

*though it seems the politician’s definition comes from the Twilight Zone’s “To Serve Man”
