Wreaths Across America: BNSF and J.B. Hunt honoring the greatest gift for Christmas

By Thomas Buckley, December 21, 2022 6:13 am

This time of year is known for giving (and re-giving if the sweater doesn’t fit,) spending time with family, enjoying the frantic moments knowing the peaceful moments are just around the corner, and wistfully remembering those close to you who are here no longer.

In the spirit of honoring those who gave the greatest gift of all – defending our nation – BNSF railroad, J.B. Hunt trucking, and the Southern California branch of the Patriot Guard came together over the weekend to lay thousands of wreaths on the graves of veterans at the Riverside National Cemetery.

“It’s important to remember our fallen veterans, especially during the holiday season,” said Brad Hicks, president of highway services and executive vice president of people at J.B. Hunt. ”As each wreath is placed, we express our appreciation and reflect on the sacrifices they made to preserve our freedoms.”

The event was part of the annual Wreaths Across America effort, which has laid more than 2 million wreaths at veteran’s graves around the country and the world during the holiday season over the past 15 years.

“It’s a very special way to honor veterans,” said James Burrowes, a BNSF engineer, Air Force vet, and Patriot Guard rider.  “It’s amazing for the family, if they visit the cemetery during the holidays, to see that wreath there and know people remember the sacrifice.”

This year, BNSF and J.B. Hunt trains and trucks delivered – for free – nearly 230,000 wreaths to various locations around the United States, with 6,000 of them finding their way – escorted by two dozen Patriot Guard motorcycle riders –  from San Bernadino to Riverside.

The California Globe thanks everyone involved in this touching tribute and thanks every veteran for their service to their nation – Happy Holidays!
