Another Criminal Illegal Alien allegedly Murders Family in California Because of Newsom/Democrat Sanctuary Laws
California’s failure to honor ICE detainers has resulted in the release of 4,561 criminal illegal aliens since January 20

There is shocking news that yet another criminal illegal alien residing in California is accused of murdering three: an infant along with the child’s mother and grandmother in a brutal triple murder.
California sanctuary laws defy federal immigration laws by drastically limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities. State and local law enforcement agencies generally do not systematically record or report immigration status for all arrests.
Breitbart reports the details:
Joaquin Escoto Vazquez, a 28-year-old illegal alien from Mexico, was arrested by the Modesto Police Department and charged with homicide and cruelty towards a child after allegedly murdering an infant, the child’s 23-year-old mother, Fabiola Gonzalez-Nunez, and the child’s 54-year-old grandmother, Maria Sylvia Nunez-Villalobos.
According to police, Vazquez allegedly stabbed the three victims at a residence in Modesto. When police arrived on the scene, Vazquez was gone, but the infant, Gonzalez-Nunez, and Nunez-Villalobos were found with stab wounds.
Gonzalez-Nunez and Nunez-Villalobos were pronounced dead at the scene, while the infant was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
So how many illegal aliens residing in California have been arrested for murder?
There is no precise, publicly available total for the number who have been arrested for murder. California’s sanctuary policies limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities, and state and local agencies do not systematically record or report immigration status for all arrests.
In July 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice issued requests to sheriffs in multiple major California counties – including Los Angeles and San Francisco Counties – for lists of all inmates in their jails who are not citizens of the United States, their crimes of arrest or conviction, and their scheduled release dates.
But that request didn’t go anywhere.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna reported that his department does not maintain a list or database of inmates by immigration or citizenship status because they do not routinely ask about legal status. Luna emphasized adherence to California’s sanctuary law, the fraudulently named “California Values Act”, Senate Bill 54, and county policies, which limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto reported that his department does not participate in civil immigration enforcement and will not act as an “arm” of it.
The Alameda County Sheriff reported that they hadn’t received the formal DOJ request and maintained limited or zero-contact policies with ICE for civil matters, honoring only criminal judicial warrants.
SB 54 defies federal immigration law by permitting, abetting and harboring illegal aliens.
However, according to the Department of Homeland Security, as of February 6, 2026, regarding ICE detainers in California jails, ICE had active detainers for over 33,000 criminal non-citizens in California custody, including murderers, sex offenders, and drug traffickers.
“California’s failure to honor ICE detainers has resulted in the release of 4,561 criminal illegal aliens since January 20. The crimes of these aliens include 31 homicides, 661 assaults, 574 burglaries, 184 robberies, 1,489 dangerous drugs offenses, 379 weapons offenses, and 234 sexual predatory offenses,” DHS reported.
“There are currently 33,179 aliens in the custody of a California jurisdiction with active detainers. The crimes of these aliens include 399 homicides, 3,313 assaults, 3,171 burglaries, 1,011 robberies, 8,380 dangerous drugs offenses, 1,984 weapons offenses, and 1,293 sexual predatory offenses.”
Breitbart continues:
ICE officials told Breitbart News that Vasquez had previously been arrested on four occasions for drunk driving in California. His latest arrest for drunk driving, in June 2025, prompted ICE agents to lodge a detainer against him with the San Joaquin County Jail.
California’s sanctuary state policy ensured that the ICE detainer was ignored and Vasquez was subsequently released back into the community.
Senate Bill 54, authored in 2017 by Democrat Sen. Kevin de León and signed by Democrat Governor Jerry Brown in October 2017, prohibits state and local law enforcement agencies from using resources to assist federal ICE immigration enforcement, with few exceptions for serious crimes.
Sheriff Redman said he took this public safety stance because it is his duty is to protect the people. He said for any criminal arrested for any violent offenses or serious public safety violations with clear evidence, and is about to be released, “that’s when I will cooperate with ICE.”
Sanctuary state status and SB 54 muddies the water, Redman said. “Before SB 54 we could ask a criminal illegal alien in jail where they were from.” SB 54 prohibits this.
“The Attorney General and ACLU have been good about telling us what we cannot do – but not what we can do,” Redman added.
As for the latest illegal alien triple homicide, ICE has placed another detainer on Joaquin Escoto Vazquez with the Stanislaus County Jail following his arrest for the fatal stabbings.
DHS provided some of the public safety threats released directly from California jails into American communities which include:
Hector Grijalba-Sernas, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico arrested for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14-years-old. On September 24, 2024, ICE lodged an immigration detainer that was not honored and he was released. On May 8, 2025, ICE arrested Grijalba and referred him for prosecution. He is currently in the custody of a federal partner with an active immigration detainer lodged against him.
Xujin An, a criminal illegal alien from China arrested for sexual penetration with force and sexual battery in Westminster, CA. On November 9, 2024, ICE lodged an immigration detainer that was not honored and he was released. On April 15, 2025, ICE arrested An and he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.
Angel Navarro Camarillo, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico and a member of the notorious La Familia street gang, arrested for a sex offender violation. On November 29, 2024, Navarro Camarillo was arrested by Fullerton Police Department. An immigration detainer was lodged, and the detainer was not honored and he was released. On July 14, 2025, ICE arrested Navarro Camarillo and removed him from the United States.

Santa Clara County Jail refused to recognize multiple ICE immigration detainers in recent years and released Centeno back into the same communities he was terrorizing.
Carmelo Corado Hurtado, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, was convicted of first-degree murder, driving under the influence and second-degree robbery. ICE lodged an immigration detainer that was not honored and he was released. On February 26, 2025, ICE arrested Corado Hurtado and removed him from the United States.
Raphael Arturovich Gevorgyan, a criminal illegal alien from Armenia and member of the notorious Armenian Power gang, convicted of voluntary manslaughter, assault with deadly weapon, tampering with vehicle, receiving stolen property, and grand theft. On November 11, 2025, Gevorgyan was arrested by Burbank Police Department for obstructing police. ICE lodged an immigration detainer that was not honored and he was released. On November 12, 2025, ICE arrested Gevorgyan where he remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
Victor Hernandez-Jiron, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador, arrested for attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury on spouse, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment, and threats to commit a crime resulting in death or great bodily injury. ICE issued an immigration detainer that was not honored and he was released. On November 17, 2025, ICE officers apprehended Hernandez-Jiron where he remains in ICE custody pending judicial proceedings.
Monica Gonzalez-Riedel, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, arrested for willful cruelty to child and assault with deadly weapon using force causing possible great bodily injury. On March 1, 2025, ICE encountered Gonzalez after she was booked into the San Diego Sheriff’s Office. ICE lodged an immigration detainer, which was rejected by local police, who then released Gonzalez back into the community.
Sara Hassanzadeh, a criminal illegal alien from Iran, arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on an ex-spouse. On September 8, 2025, Hassanzadeh was booked into the San Diego Sheriff’s Office. ICE lodged an immigration detainer, which local authorities rejected and released Hassanzadeh back into the community.
