California Sues Medical Center over Child Gender Care

The state of California has filed a lawsuit against a southern California hospital over its decision to end the practice of gender transition care for minors. Attorney General Bonta is suing Rady Children’s Health for complying with President Donald Trump’s executive order to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children.

On January 28, 2025, approximately a week after he was inaugurated to his second term, President Trump signed an executive order entitled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” The order calls out medical professionals and centers like Rady Children’s Health that were engaging in the experimental gender therapies on minors stating, “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions.” The order continues with the promise that it will no longer support institutions that engage in such practices claiming, “Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures.”

One way the government seeks to end support of these institutions is through the termination of research and educational grants as well as Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements. A spokesperson from Rady Children’s Health spoke about their decision and how the executive order swayed them. “Taken together, these developments affect our role and responsibilities as a provider participating in federal programs such as Medicaid and Medicare, which are essential to caring for children and families in our communities,” the spokesperson said. It is clear that the institution did not wish to make the decision, but the pressure from the Department of Health and Human Services worked as it had intended.

It is important to note that there is polling that shows a majority of adults in California oppose the chemical and surgical mutilation and experimentation that is being done to children. The California Family Council conducted a poll of California voters in which they aligned demographics and political party affiliation with their sample. They found that 63% of those polled opposed “gender-affirming care”, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgery, for minors.

Despite the majority of Californians opposing the type of medical care Rady Children’s Health just ended, Attorney General Bonta decided to waste taxpayers’ money to sue the medical center for their popular move. The lawsuit was filed in such a way as to keep the federal government out of the dispute, at least at first.

In November 2024, Rady Children’s Health merged with Children’s Hospital of Orange County. One of the agreements in this merger was that the medical provider would maintain all of its health services, including offering gender transition services to minors, until at least 2034. Because Rady has technically violated this agreement, Bonta felt it necessary to sue the medical center. And because this lawsuit focuses on a state level issue, there is no legal way for the Trump administration to step in and fight California.

Undoubtedly a California judge will require Rady to fulfill its obligation made during the merger and restore the amoral child genital mutilation services. As a result, Rady Children’s Health will most likely lose the Medicaid and Medicare subsidies provided by the federal government for not complying with an executive order. Hundreds of families will be negatively impacted because of California’s vindictive lawsuit.

Attorney General Bonta would rather make sure children are the experimental lab rats for chemical and surgical mutilation than for the Trump administration to have any influence on the good of California. The progressive politicians in Sacramento are playing political games with Californian citizens’ healthcare, and lives are potentially on the line. This lawsuit has the potential to harm both children as well as elderly and destitute Californians, those on Medicare and Medicaid. These are the exact people that Democrats purport to fight for, but their actions will cause assured suffering all in pushing a political agenda.
