Kidnapper, Attempted Murderer Charged With Break-In at Home of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass
‘What is for certain is that Bass now has a new sense a respect for the LAPD for their quick response and saving her’

A man previously charged with kidnapping and attempted murder was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on Sunday for breaking in to Mayor Karen Bass’ house while she was at home, with Bass emerging un touched.
In recent years in California, break-ins to prominent lawmakers homes has been on the upswing. Most notably, in October 2022, a man broke into Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) San Francisco home and proceeded to viciously attack her husband until subdued by law enforcement. For Bass, she was also the victim of a break-in in September 2022 when two handguns were stolen from her house.
However, the circumstances were significantly different on Sunday According to the LAPD, 29-year-old Ephraim Hunter broke in the Mayor’s official residence, Getty House, at around 6:40 A.M. in the morning. Bass, as well as several family members, were inside when Hunter broke the window. Going in, he made it to the second floor, causing Bass to hide in a designated area for such events. However, by this time, the LAPD arrived and proceeded to arrest Hunter.
Hunter was quickly booked for suspicion of burglary, with more charges likely. Police also found out that Hunter had previously been booked for 7 years back in 2015 outside of Boston for taking a man with a group of other people and proceeding to beat him with a hammer.
Late on Sunday, Bass released a brief statement, thanking the LAPD for what they did.
“This morning at about 6:40 a.m., an intruder broke into Getty House through a window. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured and are safe,” said the Mayor’s office in a statement. “The Mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect.”
Break-In in LA
The LAPD issued a similar statement as well: “Around 6:40 AM this morning an individual smashed a window to gain entry into the Getty House while occupied. Police responded and took a suspect into custody without incident. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured and are safe. The Mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect.”
While the name and rap sheet of the suspect were subsequently released on Monday, currently not much is known about his motive and what his ultimate plans were for breaking into Getty House. While more is expected later this week, there are similarities between the Pelosi and Bass break-ins.
“Both break-ins had suspects who favored hammers as weapons of choice break into a wealthy and highly surveillance home,” said Frank Ma, a former policeman and security consultant in San Francisco, to the Globe. “Both were done by people far away. DePape, the Pelosi attacker, was from Canada, with this guy being from Massachusetts. They broke in in the morning as opposed to night, both were homes with prominent politicians, and at least some of their family were inside at the time. Right now, just a lot of coincidences. But if this Hunter guy says he was inspired by the Pelosi attack, it would really make a lot of sense too.”
“But that is speculation. Right now, we know this guy broke in, he has a violent criminal history, and he got awfully close to the Mayor before police arrived. Chances are they are questioned him multiple times right now, and right now the big question is what his plans were.”
“What is for certain is that Bass now has a new sense a respect for the LAPD for their quick response and saving her, so she may be more willing to boost their budget now or give them more of what they want,” Ma continued. “It always happens after a major positive police action like this. For her, she’s going to get security for quite some time. And the suspect? They’re going to book him with everything possible dependent on his statement. If he was going for assassination, this case is far from over.”
More on the break-in is due out soon.

Yes, Karen Bass (and family) were once again victimized by a home break-in. And the upshot is that it causes her to appreciate police protection, which is good, because on the whole she’s not exactly pro-police. So why does it smell? Just like the last one where guns (which we wouldn’t expect her to have if she feels “10 out of 10 safe” as she once said when running for mayor) were stolen? That smelled like a phony too. At Getty House (which is NOT in a bad neighborhood) she has police protection and lots of home security. Can’t help wondering if this is somehow a set up in an attempt to gain sympathy when she and her policies are taking a beating from the public (and former mayor candidate Rick Caruso, for one) right after her pointless State of the City address? Who knows? Maybe it’s my imagination but it still stinks. Guess we’ll see what develops…
That it was staged for sympathy and to be viewed as an ordinary person was my first thought also.
It’s curious that she has been subject to two home break-ins considering the security protection available to her? It’s doubtful that the always obnoxious Democrat Mayor Karen Bass has s a new sense a respect for the LAPD? While the rest of LA suffers from out of control crime because of her and Democrat policies that condoles criminality, she is provided 24/7 armed security paid for by taxpayers?
Yes, Karen Bass, as the mayor of a major American city, is someone who actually has a say in how much blood runs in the streets of City of L.A. and L.A. County. Yet she always and quite reliably continues to espouse a point of view that is on the wrong side of everything connected to the safety of the public in L.A. City and County. Average people who try to go about their business down here are thinking twice about setting foot outside their doors for the simplest of errands without being armed with some form of self-protection; pepper spray, legal stun devices, etc. And if you think about it too much you will shake in your boots INSIDE your home, too. This is of course unacceptable in a supposedly-civilized city, state, and country. Does L.A. Mayor Karen Bass care? We’ll see, but she does not appear to, and becoming a victim herself (if this smelly story pans out and is shown to be real) probably won’t transform her into someone takes solid action in response to actually now “caring” about L.A. residents’ safety and ability to move freely. Which you would expect to happen with someone who has had a very frightening experience like this one. Don’t hold your breath, though.
For the record, and to give her the further criticism she so richly deserves, here is more information about how full of $%@# L.A. Mayor Karen Bass is, especially on the issue of public safety in the City and County of L.A. Audio at the link below.
Bass: “The Metro is SAFE.” No, it isn’t! As is described, followed by listener calls about how horrific and dangerous and smelly and filthy the Metro is; one after another after another. PLUS, an innocent 60 year old woman minding her own business was stabbed to death (!!!) exiting the Metro yesterday by a guy with a violent recent rap sheet, about which officials were well aware. Also there is more info about the Bass Getty House burglary. Apparently Bass was not in the house when the guy broke in as first reported.

It’s not “if it can happen to the mayor, it can happen to anybody”
it’s “If it can happen to anybody, it needs to happen to the mayor”
Yes sir, TimH —- that’s how it is now, isn’t it. 🙁
