Rep Adam Gray Continues Lavish Campaign Spending on Luxury Chauffeurs, Uber Rides, and MLB Tickets

A new California Globe analysis of recent FEC disclosures shows that Congressman Adam Gray continues to spend campaign funds on luxury items—the same pattern CalWatchDog first documented when Democrats bailed him out in 2014.

Gray, who co-chaired Rep. Eric Swalwell’s failed 2026 gubernatorial campaign, has charged his campaign account for luxury chauffeur services, tens of thousands of dollars in Uber rides, and more than $16,000 in Major League Baseball tickets since taking office in January 2025, according to the California Globe review of federal campaign finance records.

The spending comes as many voters in California’s Central Valley struggle with high gas prices, rising utility bills, and ongoing housing affordability challenges.

In just the five months between May and September 2025, Gray’s campaign spent more than $16,464.45 on baseball tickets at multiple MLB stadiums. His campaign also paid more than $5,000 for limousine services through a Fresno-based luxury chauffeur company advertising “premier black car & chauffeur service.”

Since entering Congress in January 2025, Gray has racked up nearly $36,941.72 in Uber charges on his campaign account. Filings show a steady stream of ride expenses, including several triple-digit bills and one charge exceeding $650.

This latest round of luxury spending continues the behavior CalWatchDog first exposed in 2014, when Democrats stepped in to bail Gray out amid questions surrounding his campaign finances during his time in the California State Assembly. 

More than a decade later, the California Globe analysis of new FEC disclosures reveals Gray has carried the same approach to Washington in his first months in office.

The California Globe review notes that Gray previously faced scrutiny in Sacramento for charter flights and luxury resort stays. The current federal filings show the pattern has not changed.

“You can take the corrupt politician out of Sacramento, but you can’t take the Sacramento luxury lifestyle out of Adam Gray,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez. “While Californians struggle to afford groceries and gas, Gray is living it up like a Silicon Valley executive. Gray is the same out of touch politician he’s always been: putting himself first, keeping donors close, and treating campaign funds like his own personal slush fund.”

Gray represents California’s 13th Congressional District in the Central Valley. His campaign has not responded to requests for comment on the expenditures detailed in the California Globe analysis. Public campaign finance records confirm the charges. 

The continuity from the 2014 bailout first reported by CalWatchDog through the current luxury spending documented by the California Globe demonstrates that Gray has maintained the same approach to campaign funds after moving from Sacramento to Congress.
