Cadillac Bar & Grill closed; Hollister closed… ‘what will be the breaking point?’

The Globe’s good friend Sebastian in San Francisco frequently updates us on the ever closing department stores, grocery stores, restaurants, auto dealers and the like.

Monday, Sebastian shared this with the Globe:

“On Christmas Day, drug addicts shot up and passed out on the trash-littered sidewalk along Ellis Street between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue, just across the street from Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory School.

Then, Sacred Heart rang in the New Year by installing garden planters in front of their soccer field on Eddy Street between Gough and Laguna Streets.”

Isn’t this lovely.

Sebastian tells us the Safeway in the Fillmore District is closing.

The downtown San Francisco Adidas store is closing.

The Cadillac Bar & Grill at 44 9th Street is temporarily closed. “I called the restaurant but their phone has been disconnected.”

A block away from Sacred Heart Cathedral , Sebastian says the view of Burger King on Van Ness Avenue is devastating.

Sebastian explains:

I wrote about their smashed windows in October 2023.

They fixed their windows but got smashed again and even tagged with graffiti a few days later.

And this time, their drive-thru order glass window was also smashed.

“It’s lawless. I called the Police but they didn’t come. It’s tough to run a business without any support from the City,” a frustrated Burger King employee said to me.

Will the Burger King on Van Ness Avenue shutter next after the KFC on Duboce Avenue and Guerrero Street?

Across the street from Burger King, another store’s window was also smashed recently.

“San Francisco voters I talked to share the same frustrations over homelessness, crime, and open-air drug markets in the City,” Sebastian says.

This is first hand information from a San Francisco resident very upset about what the politicians are doing to the city he loves.

Sebastian said “Hollister Co. in the mall also quietly closed on December 13, 2023.”

He says:

But on the bright sight, William-Sonoma in Union Square is not having a store-closing sale.

“We are staying for another year,” a store employee told me when I visited the store on January 6.

William-Sonoma was going to leave Union Square this year and the building would become a Channel store.

San Francisco voters are at their wits’ end with the state of their city.

They ask “What will be the breaking point?”

They demand law and order and change in 2024.

They want SF’s wannabe mayors to read their lips: “Business As Usual Has Not Served This City Well!”

You can read Sebastian’s regular articles, updates and posts at “BeyondChron, The Voice of the Rest.”  It’s really quite good, and a first-hand daily reminder of just how much a mess Democrats have made of the once-stunning-City-by-the-Bay.

  1. It is a lawless city. The soulless criminals now control the streets.
Until true law and order is returned then that city will remain a dangerous, depressing city that it has become.

  2. The residents of SF can “demand all the law and order and change” in 2024 and beyond. But nothing is going to change because these woke-lefty residents keep voting for Dumbocraps!

  3. I will be reading Sebastian’s updates as much as possible from now on. The website is good and hands-on. Hands-on is interesting and helpful if you are trying to see how things REALLY are, especially if you don’t live in the city. I want to see if there is any improvement as a result of fed-up activism and if lessons have been learned by residents (voters) now that there seems to be a general acknowledgment that this once-beautiful city has hit rock bottom or nearly so.

  4. It sounds like they need Giuliani’s broken glass policies and the stop and frisk approach. Tough on criminals begets a safer community.

  5. “I hate myself so I’ll keep voting demcrat ‘cuz I figure I deserve it.”
Besides, conservatives = bad; just ask Tim Redmond @ 48 Hills, he’ll tell you all about it, and then some.

  6. This all began on Gavin Newsom’s watch when the machine got him (s)elected as Mayor of San Francisco….
    YOU OWN THIS, NEWSOM!!!

  7. This is what the residents of San Francisco kept voting for. So, I got no sympathy here. San Francisco was never like this the last time it had a Republican mayor. When their current mayor, London Breed, is up for re-election, San Francisco residents will either give her another term or vote for another “progressive” Democrat to replace Breed. Sad.

    1. The last time SF elected a Republican mayor was in 1956. George Christopher (born George Christophele) was a Greek-American businessman who served as the 34th mayor of San Francisco from 1956 to 1964.

      1. That was way, way before my time here. So they’ve suddenly stopped voting Republican in 1964 and they’ve been voting Democrat since then?

This is what happens when they have a one-party rule, and they deserve it.

  8. San Francisco has become a sad and depressing city much like Sacramento and other cities on the left coast that have been destroyed by Democrat politicians and their failed policies. Growing up in nearby Sacramento, I remember watching “The Doris Day Show” which was set in San Francisco which seemed like a magical place. The opening credits had Doris Day singing “Que Sera, Sera” with footage of her driving her red convertible over the Golden Gate Bridge, then driving down one of the hilly streets of the city, followed by general shots of the city. The opening sequence ended with Doris getting off a San Francisco cable car followed by her hopping across an intersection crosswalk in her stylish red coat. It was a different time and San Francisco was a much different city. It was a great time to be a alive and I miss it!

  9. Van Ness looks terrible- so many stores closed, and the smell of feces does not make it at all appetizing. I was in North Beach over the new year and garbage cans were overflowing and again so many stores empty. Though Washington Sq. Park looks good as does Joe DiMaggio Playground. The time is now SF, fight it, don’t let thuggery rule the streets.

  10. Today:
“San Francisco voters are at their wits’ end with the state of their city.”
    Election Day 2024:
    Votes straight democratic ticket
    Rinse
    Repeat

  11. If “San Francisco voters are at their wits’ end with the state of their city” then why do they end up with the same old stupid shit running the city! Explain to me how that is possible. You hate dumb shits yet you vote for dumb shits, WOW!
