Will 40,000 Unlawful Migrants Self-Deport from San Francisco?

Trump’s bold move to end sanctuary cities

By Richie Greenberg, March 30, 2025 2:45 am

March 25, 2025, President Donald Trump stood before the press, delivering a promise that should resonate with every law-abiding citizen: “We may be presenting you very shortly with an Executive Order ending sanctuary cities.”

This wasn’t just another soundbite—it was a battle cry to reclaim national sovereignty, safeguard communities, and put American citizens back where they belong: at the top of the priority list.

Republicans have spent years demanding an end to the dangerous farce of sanctuary cities; Trump’s words could now serve as a rallying call.

Sanctuary cities—liberal enclaves like San Francisco, Chicago, and New York that coddle illegal immigrants and shield such undocumented criminals from justice—have been a blight on America for far too long. Take San Francisco, for instance: it’s home to an estimated 40,000 illegal aliens, nearly 5% of its population, though local agencies do their best to conceal actual immigration status of many. That’s 40,000 people who shouldn’t be here, draining resources and straining a city already buckling under its own corrupt city hall mismanagement.

These jurisdictions don’t just flout federal immigration law; they mock the very concept of a secure nation with secure borders. They’ve turned their backs on the rule of law, choosing instead to pander to a radical open-borders agenda that puts law-abiding citizens, businesses and tourists at risk. Trump’s statement wasn’t vague or timid—he called these cities out for what they are: havens for lawbreakers that “guard criminals” and “take the rights away from the citizens.” He’s already started the crackdown, with his February 20, 2025, executive order slashing federal funds to these rogue outfits. Now, he’s hinting at a decisive blow to end them once and for all.

The argument for dismantling sanctuary cities is rock solid. These places don’t just harbor undocumented, illegal immigrants —they protect predators who prey on our communities. The numbers don’t lie: illegal aliens commit crimes at rates that dwarf those of lawful citizens, from theft to violent offenses. Sanctuary policies let these offenders slip through the cracks, free to strike again while local leaders pat themselves on the back for their “compassion.” When Trump vows to surge federal law enforcement into these cities and cut off their funding, he’s speaking for every American fed up with seeing their tax dollars bankroll chaos. Why should we foot the bill for municipalities that spit in the face of federal authority? It’s not just illogical—it’s an outrage.

Trump and similar-minded state and municipal elected leaders across the nation have been fighting this battle since he first took office, and his resolve is unquestionable. In 2017, his Executive Order 13768 aimed to choke off federal grants to sanctuary cities, a move that sent the left into a tailspin. Predictably, activist judges—those unelecteds of the progressive elite—struck it down, clutching their pearls, crying “unconstitutional” while ignoring the real-world consequences of their rulings. But Trump’s March 25 pledge shows he’s learned from those setbacks and is ready to hit harder. Maybe via more boots on the ground, maybe via a tighter stranglehold on funding—whatever’s coming, it’s a long-overdue reckoning for the elitists who think borders are just suggestions.

Critics cry that cutting funds will hurt schools, hospitals, and police departments. Let’s cut through the story: if sanctuary cities can’t survive without federal handouts while openly defying federal law, that’s their failure, not ours. In San Francisco, you can bet City Hall has and will scramble in panic mode to oppose this, grabbing at straws to protect their 40,000 illegal aliens and the woke coddled empire they’ve built. They’ll cry about budget cuts and “humanitarian crises,” but it’s all noise to dodge responsibility. They shouldn’t get to rake in tax revenue from hardworking Americans and then use it to shelter people who shouldn’t even be here. The idea that we owe them a lifeline while they undermine our security is the kind of twisted logic only a left coast liberal could love.

The timing of Trump’s March 25 statement couldn’t be more consequential. Just months into his second term, he’s already declared a border emergency, kicked off mass deportation plans, and set the stage for a full-on immigration overhaul. This latest move is the next domino in a chain that puts America first. When he says “very shortly,” he’s dangling a promise that could drop in days, weeks, or even hours. When it does, it’ll be a sledgehammer to the open-borders crowd. Surely the left will scream about legal challenges but let them try. Trump’s got the people’s mandate—52% of the vote in 2024 plus both houses of congress—and the will of the people behind him.

Sanctuary cities aren’t noble experiments—they’re a betrayal of every citizen who plays by the rules, a slap in the face to the men and women who built this country, not the ones who sneak across its borders. Trump’s plan to end them isn’t just conservative policy—it’s the backbone of a nation we are defending Let’s hope that order comes fast, hits hard, and buries the sanctuary scam for good. America and its grand cities deserve nothing less.

  1. That number seems very, very low. They will leave one way or the other – voluntarily or kicking and screaming. Ban all illegals from every entering the country again. They had a chance to do it legally but no they had to break the law. Choices have consequences.
