Greenberg Brief: Harris and Breed, Similarities and Failures

Harris and Breed are under fire for failing to lead, or for implementing policies which proved largely detrimental

Some interesting parallels are emerging with Kamala Harris and San Francisco’s incumbent mayor London Breed, beyond both women having dated former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown. After watching several debates in which Breed had participated, and the televised Trump/Harris debate earlier this week. In the past, both are candidates currently dodging responsibility for failing to fulfill their primary obligations and tasks assigned to them. (Breed seeks re-election as San Francisco mayor; Harris as Vice President is candidate for US President).

Harris and Breed are under fire for failing to lead, or for implementing policies which proved largely detrimental. One example: Harris’ role, while California’s Attorney General, was in the development of the legal text and misleading title of Prop 47, famously leading to ten years of crime spikes and non-accountability across California. The damage to businesses large and small, injury to and deaths of innocent, hard-working residents and their property; tourists robbed at gunpoint, and mass lootings- the economic toll is hard to quantify. It gave excuse for rogue District Attorneys to refuse prosecution. Harris’ efforts to obfuscate true intent of Prop 47 as the ballot measure was one of the most consequential criminal justice-as-social justice screwups in a generation.

Breed herself jumped on the social justice extremist bandwagon in 2020 with declarations of overly-harsh and prolonged Covid lockdowns, forcing workers and businesses to flee; with the George Floyd killing occurring thousands of miles from San Francisco, Breed sought inspiration by friends of the BLM movement founders to push for defunding and demoralizing our own police department here, unjustifiably. Breed also took away $120 million of SFPD funding and diverted it to a new, pet project initiative she champions til this day, the Dreamkeeper Initiative, a race-based program for the city’s Black community.

Kamala Harris was appointed in 2021 as Border Czar as well as to oversee the setup and implementation of a national high-speed WiFi network, and mandate for EV charging  stations with billions of taxpayers’ dollars earmarked for each project. Harris failed on all aspects. Money came in, money spent, no results, but someone was enriched.

London Breed expanded on her race-based personal agenda, pushing for a plan for Reparations which made national headlines. [Note: Yours truly led the local effort to expose the plan and detailed the unconstitutional provisions.]

A porous US border, an open gateway allowing anyone and anything to come across and settle in cities and towns large and small, was incomprehensible, until the Biden-Harris administration allowed it. Fentanyl and other highly potent addictive drugs are ruining our cities, and federal law enforcement is stifled and vilified. Trickling down to city level, San Francisco is famous (and infamous) crowned for the cheapest fentanyl in the nation at $3 a pop. The damage to our downtown financial district, the tourism industry and office work pushed the city into a doom loop we are unable to emerge from in the foreseeable future.

Yet, Harris and Breed both deny reality. They both decry and dismiss social media criticism and news headlines which expose their gut-wrenching reality of failed governance as “right-wing” reporting. Kamala is quoted as proposing censorship of the very voices harmed by radical policy. Breed says to ignore the Fox News headlines, that the City is “back”.

In fact, Breed doubled-down, tripled-down on her race-based initiatives which make grants to Black businesses; this past Spring, Breed proposed establishing a college campus in vacant financial district buildings specifically for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), making headlines once again. Ultimately, the California state college regents rejected her plan.

With an insane proposed annual operating budget of $16 Billion to run San Francisco, Mayor Breed was quickly handed a reality check; city hall’s revenue sources cannot support that level of spending. When faced with requiring budget cuts across the board, Breed not only refused to make any meaningful cuts specifically to her race-based programs, she increased funding to them. On this November’s ballot are two bond measures, loans in essence, to the city for operating essential services and making infrastructure improvements, monies the City doesn’t have and can’t raise. And Breed won’t divert personal focus away from her Black initiatives, with their hundreds of millions in program costs and grants. She won’t touch them, despite their growing corruption and fiscal malfeasance.

Kamala Harris, in interviews, states she believes some type of Reparations on a federal level are necessary, though she won’t detail any plan. Yet, as we know, the creation of the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) policies on local, state and federal government levels forces by a sanctioned coercion, to shun White (and often Asian) job seekers, job promotions and awarding of contracts. From the highest levels of elected and appointed office in Washington DC downward, a systemic anti-White/Asian prejudice was created and implemented very quickly, once Biden-Harris entered office mere few years ago. Quotas for race and ethnicity in our armed forces, the US Department of Education, Health agencies, even corporate America established and implemented  racist DEI policy. Some say recent airplane safety incidents and issues are a direct result of an altered workforce at Boeing. When a person’s skin color is paramount, and merit dispensed with, this is what we get. Surely, Martin Luther King Jr. is rolling in his grave.

Barely a year into London Breed’s tenure in the mayor’s office, she proudly announced the successful creation of the city’s “Office of Racial Equity”, a template and mandate to install DEI into every aspect of San Francisco’s operations. From hirings, to appointments to city commissions, to budget requests, financial grants, proposed ordinances and more, the city’s DEI officers are tasked with examining each proposal through a “diversity” lens and gather race/ethnicity and gender regarding City contracts.

Under Biden-Harris, the Nation is sick. San Francisco under Breed is failing. A lack of accountability in government is astonishingly evident. As election season is in full steam ahead mode, we find Kamala Harris dodging interviews, appearing at just one debate. Mayor Breed has now dropped out of several mayoral candidate debates; both women apparently fearful of public scrutiny and of being called out for each their individual failures.

As voters this November, we have an absolutely duty to reflect on what the Biden-Harris and London Breed administrations have done to our safety, our livelihoods, our property, our earnings, our job prospects and quality of life. Other cities around the state are surely suffering a similar effect of DEI and fiscal mismanagement. Voting against the incumbents is the first step.
