Paul Pelosi, 86, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Yountville, Napa County on Friday, July 3, 2026.

From various news reports, we know that Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when he struck a legally parked, unoccupied black Tesla on the side of the road around 2:30 p.m. on Yount Street.

A witness saw the collision, reported that Pelosi briefly stopped, then drove away. The witness called 9-1-1.

Deputies located his damaged vehicle about a quarter mile away, where it had become disabled and was blocking the road. Pelosi admitted he knew he hit “something” but wasn’t sure what it was, so he continued driving. Pelosi’s car showed significant damage to the front right side, consistent with the crash. The parked car sustained “major” rear damage.

The parked Tesla sustained “major” damage. Pelosi’s car had significant front-right damage consistent with the crash. No injuries reported.

Is that the judgment of an elderly 86-year old, or the call by an entitled husband of a member of Congress?

No injuries were reported, and no alcohol was detected in his system.

Pelosi was not arrested at the scene.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has referred the case to the District Attorney for a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge, for fleeing the scene of an accident with property damage. The DA will decide on charges. Pelosi could also face a DMV review, which is common for older drivers and may lead to license issues.

A Pelosi family spokesperson said he apologized to the Tesla owner and will take responsibility for the damages.

Prior incidents by Paul Pelosi:

  • 2022 DUI conviction (5 days jail, probation) after a crash in Napa.
  • 1957 car crash when he was 16 – he lost control of a vehicle, killing his older brother who was a passenger in the vehicle. A coroner’s jury exonerated him; it was ruled accidental with no charges.

Paul Pelosi who is a businessman and investor, has been involved in high-profile stock trades that drew public and political allegations of insider trading tied to his wife’s position. These have led to calls for investigations/audits and congressional trading ban debates, but no formal charges, indictments, or convictions have resulted.

Pelosi could be charged with Misdemeanor Hit-and-Run. This applies when a driver leaves the scene of an accident causing damage to another vehicle or property, without injuries.

Penalties could entail:

  • Up to 6 months in county jail.
  • Fine up to $1,000 (or both jail and fine).
  • Probation (often 3 years) and possible community service.
  • Restitution to the victim for property damage.
  • 2 points on your DMV driving record (can lead to higher insurance rates or license suspension).

No arrest is always required for misdemeanors if the driver is identified and cooperates.

The Pelosi’s estimated net worth is $636 million as of July 2026. Perhaps Paul should hire a driver.
