Gov. Newsom Shocked California Looks Like ‘a Third World Country’

Under one party rule, ‘Criminals know how to exploit California’s policies for their gain’

By Katy Grimes, January 21, 2022 7:35 am

Californians have recently been treated to images of mountains of trash along the Union Pacific rail line in Los Angeles. CBS-LA reporter John Schreiber went to the site and took video of looted packages from Amazon and UPS, prescription drugs, “unused Covid tests, fishing lures, EpiPens. Cargo containers left busted open on trains.”

His videos went viral on social media, and many news reports followed.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom visited the site Thursday and helped perform clean up for the cameras.

According to Fox News:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom showed up Thursday with a clean-up crew and vowed action.

And the Democrat, dressed in a T-shirt, baseball cap and coronavirus mask, pitched in himself, joining crew members from the state Department of Transportation in grabbing handfuls of debris and placing the trash in bags or in a dumpster.

“What has happened on this stretch of the Union Pacific Railroad is unacceptable,” Newsom told reporters. He said the area looked like a scene from “a Third World country,” according to FOX 11 of Los Angeles.

It is unacceptable. But this has been going on for a long time, with little or no reported response from local or state government.

Sen. Scott Wilk. (Photo: wilkforca.com)

Senate Republican Leader Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) reacted:

“First there were porch pirates, then smash-and-grab robberies, and now we have looters and thieves ransacking cargo trains; all of this happened under one-party rule in the state,” said Wilk. “Criminals know how to exploit California’s policies for their gain.

“Fancy press conferences by the governor are not going to discourage one single crime. Californians deserve safer communities, and Republicans look forward to fighting for every neighbor, retailer, and employer who is fed up with the Democrats’ ‘Criminals First’ public safety agenda. When Democrat policies fail, Republicans are there with good solutions,” said Wilk.

In a letter to Los Angeles County District Attorney, Union Pacific officials expressed their displeasure with the state’s soft-on-crime policies. Specifically, the letter reads, “These individuals are generally caught and released back onto the streets in less than twenty-four hours. Criminals boast to our officers that charges will be pled down to simple trespassing – which bears no serious consequence.”

The December Union Pacific letter (below) to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón explains just how bad it has been, and that this is no surprise:

Specifically, just over the past three months of intermodal peak season in preparation for holiday shopping, UP has had the following experience in Los Angeles County:

• On average, over 90 containers compromised per day.

• In partnership with Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), and California Highway Patrol (CHP) we estimate over 100 arrests have been made of active criminals vandalizing our trains. UP alone making several dozens of arrests.

• With our law enforcement partners we have deterred hundreds of individuals from trespassing and vandalizing our trains.

• Of all those arrests, however, UP has not been contacted for any court proceedings.

This increased criminal activity over the past twelve months accounts for approximately $5 million in claims, losses and damages to UP. And that value does not include respective losses to our impacted customers. Nor does it capture the larger operating or commercial impacts to the UP network or supply chain system in Los Angeles County

But rather than doubling down on the source of these crimes, Fox 11 LA reports Newsom praised Proposition 47, Proposition 57 and AB 109, claiming they had helped reduce crime in the state: Proposition 47, which downgraded some felonies to misdemeanors; Proposition 57, which reduced prison sentences; and Assembly Bill 109, which shifted detainees from state prisons to local jails, FOX 26 of Fresno reported.

Proposition 47, reduced a host of felonies to misdemeanors, including drug crimes, date rape, and all thefts under $950, even for repeat offenders who steal every day. Proposition 57 now allows newly-defined “nonviolent” felons to qualify for early release, and parole boards can now only consider an inmate’s most recent charge, and not their entire history because of this proposition.

Even with LA police catching and arresting the Union Pacific thieves, they are out within the day because of the two propositions Newsom claims to support. These “criminal justice reforms” have produced the stark increase of thefts and robberies.

Gov. Newsom says on his website:

One month ago, Governor Newsom rolled out his proposed Real Public Safety Plan, which directly addresses rail theft and calls for bolstering local law enforcement response, supporting  prosecutors in their efforts to hold perpetrators accountable, and getting guns and drugs off our streets. The Plan includes $255 million in grants for local law enforcement to increase presence at retail locations and combat organized retail crime, along with $18 million to create a dedicated state team of special investigators and prosecutors in the Attorney General’s Office to prosecute cross-jurisdictional theft-related crimes.

None of this has stopped the railway theft yet. Only strong policing with legal consequences to the theft will.

The governor’s reaction might as well be pure theater – remember, he endorsed Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.

  1. What planet is this governor on that he acts SURPRISED about the hell that has been going on for some time at the Union Pacific train tracks in L.A.? What kind of a lunatic governor PRAISES the reasons for it, which of course he supported, AB 109, Prop 47 and Prop 57? What kind of a PERSON, never mind a CA GOVERNOR, supports the other central reason for what’s going on there, L.A. County D.A. George Gascon, whom he ENDORSED? And then he apologizes for saying “gangs,” and replaces the word with “organized groups of folks?” (Huh?!) And WHO exactly is he pandering to when he does that? No one I’ve ever met or known of in my entire LIFE. Newsom is a joke and a clown —– and every single day he becomes more preposterous than he was the day before, which is really saying something.

  2. Blustering, fool comes to mind. “Shocked, shocked, I say!”, said Fog Horn, Leg Horn, AKA feckless Governor Newsom!

Actually, we, who live this reality on a daily basis are not shocked one bit! I have a question for those in leadership, when you degrade the police, when you defund the police, when you side with the criminal, what did you expect! I get it, you expected the gang of criminals to police themselves, be compassionate, be law abiding. After all they just needed to be let out of jail early to prove themselves!

What a joke and yes life in California does imitate art in this case, Looney Tunes!

So I will end with this, Ah, What’s Up Jerk?

  3. How soon did Newsom rip his mask off after posing for that photo op of him picking up a piece trash? Much of California not only looks like a third world country, it is governed like one under Newsom and the deep state Democrat cabal?

    1. Exactly Samantha.
The trashed railways and increase in all crimes reflect the third world oppressive style governing demonstrated by one party rule!

This would not happen under leaders who subscribe to law and order government.

  4. This must be an election year. Noisome is now campaigning against his own policies. It will not work. This tells me that they are not confidant they can fraud out the next election.

  5. Publicity stunt. Purely for self-promotion, mitigating criticisms of his policies and providing fodder for the leftist media and their sheep. So, why is Newsom’s approval rating still high? Folks, don’t get yourselves wound up in a dithering tizzy. Just understand that the criminal element is part and parcel of the Democrat Party and remove these leftists from office. Step 1: Retake control of the corrupted election process …. “Lenin endorsed the idea of robbing post offices, railway stations, trains, and banks. Under the lead of Leonid Krasin, a group of Bolsheviks began carrying out such criminal actions, the best known taking place in June 1907, when a group of Bolsheviks acting under the leadership of Joseph Stalin committed an armed robbery of the State Bank in Tiflis, Georgia.” (Wikipedia). https://www.eurasiareview.com/15012022-gavin-newsoms-2022-vision-oped/

  6. Wow Governor Climate Change in action cleaning up one of the messes he created! And with a mask! What no French Laundry today?

  7. Still waiting on the Globe Troll to try and spin this as a positive for Gruesome Newscum..!!! Ha ha ha..!!

Real sad how the State has declined to this level of 3rd World living under the totally Democratic Government.

  8. And in other news, W is strangely SILENT on this one…

Re this UPR situation, personally I’d love to see them return to the mid-1800’s and issue the railroad police 12ga. shotguns and take care of business with these thieves directly…that would stop these GANGS dead in the(ir) tracks…

    W???

  9. QUICK! Tie the fckr to the tracks then signal the next train to come by at an accelerated clip…maybe 45 or so. Get it all on camera, then sell pay-per-views at CA theaters to watch the mess. There would be cheering far and wide for this one as his head rolls around by itself and the body is instantly mangled under the engine. I can dream, can’t I?

  10. The biggest piece of trash I see in that picture is Newsom! Where’s the train when you need one to help clean up California?

  11. I live between Mojave and Rosamond and for miles and miles there are couches, tires, glass, cracked chunks of cement, matereses, bags of garbage many ripped open, car parts, tvs, and evey type of junk and trash you can imagine dumped all over the desert and on the road all around us. It gets worse evey month and no one will clean it up. So far the people I’ve seen doing this don’t speak English, so I imagine this is just thier culture and they think it’s OK.

  12. You idiots voted for it. So shut up and embrace the results of your stupidity. The rest of us have no sympathy for slaves on the democrat plantation.

    1. Boy, you have a lot to add to this platform. Where did all these useless posters come from? How about adding something intellectual. This platform usually is not a hateful place. Don’t you think most people posting here are Californians who are just are frustrated as you are? We aren’t slaves! You clearly have no idea about the people in California. Quit blaming the voters and look at the voting systems and the $$ behind it!

      1. Couldn’t agree more, Stacy. Thank you for posting this. Apparently there are a lot of hateful trolls out there who just lump all Californians together. It makes no sense of course, but it’s getting old.

  13. Easy fix for UP is to go back to railroad “bulls” patrolling the yards. Get rid of all the cameras and have the bulls beat the shit out of trespassers and toss them outside the fence. Problem will be gone in a week.

  14. “I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again'”
I’m current selling our Kali home and our Kali business of 43 years and we are gettin’ out of this Marxist hell hole. All 137 of our well paying jobs are leaving as well. Squat in your own mud hole, Governor.

  15. It’s very difficult for our much-maligned Governor to see the third world mess he’s created when he’s sitting for dinner at the French Laundry.

  16. Why should Newsom be “shocked?” It’s his open borders / protect illegal aliens policy that’s bringing – and keeping – the worst elements of the third world to our once Golden State.

  17. That’s a a rich comment coming from Gruesom. His policies helped turn California into a 3rd world county. Apparently most voters agree with him since over 65% voted down the recall.

  18. Minimum safety requirements for persons working within a railroad right of way generally include wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e. hard hat, hi-viz safety vest, safety glasses, etc. Not adhering to these rules can subject you to a fine from the railroad and/or numerous regulatory agencies. Many of the workers on the track appear to be in compliance, can’t say the same for the governor and his entourage…

  19. The state of California is intentional. Newsom is leading compliant democrats to utterly break our society. No one can be this stupid to not understand the obvious effects of AB 109, Prop 47 and Prop 57 on a civil society. I do not think change will be made through elections as Newsom empowered by super majority demon-crats instituted mail in voting. An election based upon mail in voting is a corrupted election. Just what a criminal political party needs to impose power. We are subjugated; we are not citizens in California.

  20. “Newsom praised Proposition 47, Proposition 57 and AB 109, claiming they had helped reduce crime in the state”…
These propositions have not “reduced” ACTUAL crimes. They have only changed the “definition” of some crimes (like changing the definition of “vaccines”), so your “crime stats” look better on paper, but the physical crimes are still being committed.
Proposition 47: The Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act… Boy, did we get duped with the (lying) title of THAT prop!!
Proposition 47, Proposition 57 and AB 109, MUST BE CHANGED.

    1. Also I know that many are not bothering to report a lot of crimes anymore. For instance, when a home is burgled the police (who are swamped) tell the owners they need to report it online, that no officer will come out for it. So it often isn’t reported at all. Another way to “reduce crime” —– an unreported crime doesn’t exist!

  21. It warms the heart to see all the right wingers come to this board to express their hate, rage, anger,
and death wishing on Gov Newsom.
Now you all know how it felt for the rest of us living every day with that POS Trump as president.
It was agonizing and embarrassing. Shameful to be an American. He is gone for good.
But in November you righties are going to melt down once more when Gov Newsom wins re-election in a landslide.

    1. You’re funny…!! Unfortunately Newsom, Gascon, and Boudin are all supporters of the increased crime and since you support them, you’re an accomplice to the downfall of California.
You’re a good party member and remind me of the actions of the Brown shirts in Germany before WW2. Maybe good old Vlad Putin would accept you into his new Communist Party since you’re a very vocal supporter of single party rule, especially in California.

      1. Ha!
W-[ It was agonizing and embarrassing. Shameful to be an American.”]

So is W admitting Newsom is an embarrassment to California? I agree that Newsom is an embarrassment to all Californians.

I am not surprised, Trump gets injected into a leftie defense! It is in the progressive handbook to never admit policy failure.
Chapter One: Blame the bad Orange Man!

    2. Name one thing that Trump did that was bad. And then name one thing that President Poop Pants has done that is good. One thing that you show that is typical of left wingers: they are never happy. Don’t forget to name those two things I asked.

        1. I already know all about that. I knew most of it before he was President. The problem with “wikipedia” is that anyone can get in there and change information and that has happened to liberals as well as “pathetic right wingers”. Now I ask you again name one thing that President Poop Pants has done for the good of this country?

    3. Interesting the assumptions made by you. Everyone on here is a “right-winger?” If you believe that, why in the hell did you comment here? Makes no sense. You just chose to rub salt in the wounds of some, and that’s about as hateful as it gets. God Bless you and keep you safe!

        1. We’ve always had plenty of dissenting views here. Check the archives. People go back and forth and make their arguments. Trolls show up too, of course, nothing new there. But I’ve never seen anything quite like what you do: “Governor Newsom made the right decision,” when whatever it is tops the last one as the worst decision in the history of California governance. I still think there is a good chance you are joking. Maybe you’re not but it often makes me laugh.

  22. In all fairness I’m not surprised our dyslexic governor was shocked. He probably doesn’t read much since he is dyslexic so he didn’t know anything about this until Fox News did a feature on it…. Gascon blames UPS Fedex etc for not having enough security, ignoring the fact he has turned our local justice system into a revolving door…

    1. Harvey, I am a bit skeptical regarding Newsom’s dyslexia reveal in his book. Politician’s ploy to a “sympathy” audience? Let’s see if we get another one, even more ‘revealing’ before the election; like sexually abused by a close ‘blankity blank’. You can fill in the blank part. He has always seemed so ‘feminine’ to me. Just cannot picture him in football practice on the line of scrimmage going at it one-on-one and getting an opponent’s forearm under the chin……”MOMEEE, I wanna go home.”

  23. A lot of us here on the site constantly wonder if Newsom is purposely trying to destroy California…
And it’s been said before that “As goes California, so goes the nation”

Well, here’s your evidence that Newsom is just another puppet, like Biden, to evil and powerful. NGO’s that are working in concert to disrupt the world’s economies:

I’m sure Mr. Schwab is well-intentioned and has all humanitys’ best interests at heart. He and his cohorts are doing needed planning, not for more power or wealth, but because they wish to serve their fellow human beings in the best possible way. We should trust them to do the right thing because they are smarter and wiser than most of us deplorables. I for one am looking forward to universal Basic Income and a global digital currency. Simplifies things and makes everything more convenient.

The simplicity and convenience of slaves. Ugh. Your post has all the stilted syntax and kumbaya naïveté of the typical sock-puppet.

  25. I am glad that Governor Newsom finally acknowledges that California looks like a “third world country”.
    My question is this-
Why are we accepting this ‘third world country’ as our home ?
The issues that are destroying OUR daily lives are not affecting our politicians and our so called ‘leaders’.
Did Gavin notice the rows of people living in RVs right above the Los Angeles train tracks where he barely broke a sweat helping to clean up the area.
Gavin Newsom and all of California’s elected officials have no problem tossing the lives of their constituents in the trash.
If they were robbed at gunpoint for their watches, their car windows were smashed or their catalytic converters were stolen – then, perhaps, California would start to see real change.
There is NO reason to pay more to live in California any longer.
    For what?
To have to leave our cars wide open at night to save the windows from being smashed?
To have to nervously walk our dogs in hopes that we are not robbed at gunpoint for purses or our pets?
To have to choose between evacuating our homes during a wildfire or having it looted?
That is a horrible choice to have to make.
Do not get sidetracked by the terminology used –
I do not care if it is individual criminals,
groups of criminal people that are working together or just
good old fashioned GANGS that are perpetrating these crimes –
these crimes are happening to the voters of California.
Here are a few ideas for Gavin et al…
->Stop taking kickbacks from PG & E while our state burns.
->Stop giving away our money to dead people and prisoners while expecting unemployed people to pay
    back just claims with EDD.
-> Stop blaming normal, hard working TAX PAYERS when they are the victims of YOUR crimes.
( should not have walked in that area,
should not have driven on that road,
should not have worn your watch and walked in that area,
    etcetera.)
->Stop allowing homeless encampments to build up trash and human waste while
    feigning concern for the environment.
->Stop blaming climate change for the Golden States ‘new normal’ of seasonal wildfires.
California’s Democrats and Republicans in office have not suffered during the last two years.
When OUR businesses were shut down , California’s legislators continued enacting legislation.
(Look at some of the bills that have been passed in that time…..AB453 ‘stealthing’….really?)
No wonder the rest of the country is laughing while they watch us self destruct.

    1. Bravo Mary!
So tell me how you really feel!????

Many here share your sentiments and sincerely want representation for all Californians.
The blinders must come off for people to awaken and you may have just helped a reader do that.

      1. Thank you, I too am a fed up Cali girl.
Also, thanks to Katy Grimes and everyone at California Globe for reporting something more than the constant media echo from most media out there.

  26. When I saw him picking up trash my first thought was” PHOTO OP! ” there must have been a decontamination shower just off camera”
