Sacramento Sheriff Will Not Enforce Gov’s Stay-Home and ‘Gatherings’ Orders, or Curfew

Potential criminal behavior, public or personal safety, Sheriff will respond appropriately

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones issued a statement Thursday stating that the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office will not be enforcing Governor Gavin Newsom’s holiday “gatherings”  orders to stay home… alone… and eat chicken instead of a large turkey. (Actually the chicken statement was LA Mayor Eric Garcetti’s directive).

As Rep. Tom McClintock referenced in a floor speech in the U.S. House Thursday, “I rise this morning in defense of Governor Gavin Newsom who recently defied his own idiotic Covid edicts as he partied at one of the few restaurants that he has not yet forced out of business.  I defend him because he was doing what we all once did in a free society: make our own decisions over what risks we are willing to run and what precautions we are willing to take according to our own circumstances to protect our own health.”

The Globe suspects the Sheriff likely feels the same as McClintock.

The Sheriff’s statement:

“The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office will not be determining—including entering any home or business—compliance with, or enforcing compliance of, any health or emergency orders related to curfews, staying at home, Thanksgiving or other social gatherings inside or outside the home, maximum occupancy, or mask mandates.”

“The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office will not be determining—including entering any home or business—compliance with, or enforcing compliance of, any health or emergency orders related to curfews, staying at home, Thanksgiving or other social gatherings inside or outside the home, maximum occupancy, or mask mandates. Further, we will not dispatch officers for these purposes—callers will be advised to call 3-1-1 and be routed to County Health. Of course, if there is potential criminal behavior or the potential for impacts to public or personal safety we will continue to respond appropriately.”

I would like to wish everyone a happy and meaningful Thanksgiving Holiday.”

One happy county resident replied: “What a relief! I won’t get arrested if I see my family on Thanksgiving!”

Another said, “Thank you for your faith in our community. We will do what is right for ourselves and our families. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”

  1. Comrades

The Sheriff understands “scale” when dealing with public safety……so little assets, so little time, an immense undertaking loading grandma’s into grimy paddy wagons for passing the gravy boats…….

  2. Thank God someone has the balls to stand up to all this BS. Hopefully, others will follow his lead! Who does Newsom expect to enforce these orders? The defunded police? Please! He is pouting cause he got busted being a liar so he would like to create more chaos to deflect.

  3. Hopefully law enforcement in other counties and cities will follow the common sense example of Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones?

  4. Thank you Scott Jones.
We all see Gov Newsome and His Realative Nancy P. hypocrisy and utter disregard for his own preaching.

  5. Thanks to all the law enforcement agencies that are rejecting these unlawfully imposed orders, I follow the Constitution, not our so-called gov.Newsom!!!

  7. Thank you SO MUCH for standing up and ignoring these ridiculous orders.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE … How do we get Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept to follow suit?????

    1. I know it’s hard to believe but L.A. County Sheriff DID say he wouldn’t enforce. Most other counties in southern California will also not enforce. This is good news.

  8. Thank you and may God bless Sheriff Jones for having the courage and integrity to uphold your oath to our Constitution.
The Constitution of our United States is We the People’s protection against would be tyrants. Your County Sheriff is your only elected law enforcement official and he/she takes an oath to uphold our Constitution. Please Support him/her in keeping this oath. 9. All right Sheriff Scott Jones!! We’re behind you!! We’ve had it with Newsom, riots and ‘defund the police’ – Support our men & women in Blue!!

  10. Although Newsom is a totalitarian monster he also wants to gin up hate for the police. What better way than to terrorize people at Thanksgiving dinner? Thankfully Sheriffs are smarter than him.
