‘What Governor Newsom’s Trip to China Accomplished’ – In the Governor’s Own Words

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s ‘vanity trip to China’ had ‘cringe-inducing moments’

By Katy Grimes, October 31, 2023 2:36 am

California Governor Gavin Newsom just arrived home Sunday evening from a week-long trip to China. Many in California wondered why exactly the governor was spending a week romancing China when there’s plenty to love in the Golden State – or rather, plenty that needs fixing in California.

Well, as the Globe reported, “This trip was all about Gavin, and no one else.”

So in the governor’s own words, were are pleased to have Gavin Newsom tell you, “What Governor Newsom’s Trip to China Accomplished” from a press release he sent out Monday evening at 5:19pm:

“WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Governor Newsom’s trip to China was about delivering real climate action and creating opportunities for future collaboration and cooperation.”

Aha. What was that the governor “delivered” to China?… “real climate action” and “opportunities”… for collusion and “aid, assistance, coaction.” That’s what “collaboration and cooperation” mean.

What else did Governor Newsom’s Trip to China Accomplish?

According to Gavin, he “helped thaw relations and builds on the Biden Administration’s efforts to continue an open dialogue with China.”

Is the Biden Administration still trying to open a dialogue with China after two years in office?

“The Governor was the first American Governor to visit China in over 4 years.”

Wow. The first American governor to suck up to the Chinese Communist Party leader of China. That is an accomplishment. Yah, you betcha.

But now we get down to the business of what was accomplished:

According to Governor Newsom, his trip “prioritized three goals” – he didn’t actually accomplish something if he was “prioritizing” these:  1) advancing climate action and cooperation, 2) promoting economic development and tourism, and 3) strengthening cultural ties.

But hey – the governor has those priorities down pat.

“The Governor’s trip continued a 15+ year bipartisan tradition dating back to former Governors Brown and Schwarzenegger.”

What is this “bipartisan tradition?”

According to Gov. Newsom, “The Governor’s meetings with Chinese leadership resulted in a first-of-its-kind declaration by China and California to cooperate on subnational climate action…”

Aha. The “first-of-its-kind declaration.” Now that’s an accomplishment. It must have been exhausting.

But did Gov. Newsom actually do something – did he accomplish something – did he achieve something? Did he walk away with a deal?

“On this trip, California signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) – with China’s National Development and Reform Commission, the provinces of Guangdong and Jiangsu, and the municipalities of Beijing, and Shanghai.”

Aha. He signed five MOUs – which are non-binding. They have to be non-binding, because he’s only a governor of one state among the 50 states of the United States, and does not hold the Presidential-level authority to actually make treaties with foreign nations.

But what do these Memorandums of Understanding actually mean? What, if anything, can be done with these MOUs?

“Beginning immediately, California agencies and departments will initiate next steps toward implementing the MOUs with their Chinese counterparts. This work includes forming working groups, conducting bilateral meetings, establishing formal work plans, and planning site and delegation visits.”

Aha. They will “initiate next steps.” Meetings, roundtable discussions, travel, planning sites and delegation visits. Gov. Newsom sounds more like a travel agent than a Governor.

“Over the next two months, leadership from CARB and the California Energy Commission plan to attend the World New Energy Vehicle Conference in China, and California officials plan to engage Chinese counterparts at APEC in San Francisco and COP28 in Dubai.”

Aha. Unelected California bureaucrats will be traveling around the world on taxpayer-funded trips to attend conferences so they can see and be seen by important Chinese Communist Party officials… They must be so excited!

“Following the Governor’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the first meeting with an American Governor since 2017 (since Jerry Brown made the trip), it was announced that President Biden and President Xi will meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in San Francisco next month.”

This means Gavin Newsom is a buttinsky – he butted in ahead of President Biden’s meeting with President Xi next month in San Francisco – and did it in a big obnoxious way so everyone would know he did it first. Oof.

“President Xi expressed hope that his meeting with Governor Newsom would help U.S.-China relations, according to Chinese state media. Chinese leaders also said that ‘subnational cooperation is an indispensable part’ of the U.S.-China relationship and U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns, who joined the Governor for the meetings on Wednesday, agreed: ‘This was a very positive and consequential day for the United States.’”

That’s a milquetoast way of saying Meh. Newsom came. He saw. He did not conquer China, and President Xi just intimated that by reminding Newsom of his “subnational” status.

Gov. Gavin Newsom did manage to run over a small Chinese child while playing basketball during his visit to China.

Mrs. Newsom who prefers to be called “The First Partner,” also played a little basketball with Chinese children. It was very odd.

A rich assessment of Newsom’s trip to China was from the Washington Examiner, which called one Newsom episode with President Xi “cringe-inducing,” and called it “Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) vanity trip to China.”

That glamour shot up top says it all – When he wasn’t charging Chinese children in pickup basketball.

Be sure to real all of the Globe’s coverage.

  1. LOVE seeing this very amusing Katy Grimes limb-by-limb dismantling of GavIn Newsom, so richly deserved, after our gov’s phony all-about-me self-regarding debacle of a China visit; you know, the one where he courageously stepped forward when literally NO ONE asked.
It’s not so easy trying to figure out what message the governor was trying to send to Californians and other Americans with his attention-getting antics, but we did see that he knows what an MOU is (boy, does he ever) and what “next steps” are, and he knows how to sign paperwork (left-handed!) on camera, and how to mow children down on the basketball court, and that the wife, er, First Partner is bizarrely a really good sport about joining in too. Whatever!
How could Newsom NOT be done after this?

  2. Anyone with more than rudimentary understanding of cultural anthropology (and who isn’t infected by the climate hysteria virus) will tell you that climate activism checks all the boxes of being a religion. It has an apocryphal flood myth. It has a priesthood that can’t be challenged. Its practitioners use the religious belief system to exert absolute control over everyone. It is used as a rationale to justify every imaginable policy. Unsurprisingly, these policies are mostly about the establishment and retention of power, and of course, the diversion of huge amounts of money to the true believers and their causes. Now get thee to church my children.

  3. It would be interesting to see what is contained in these 5 “non-binding” MOU’s. If the CCP & Newsom are true to form the California regulatory agencies and the CCP will devise regulations that will trap (they would say encourage) Californians to purchase everyday items (electric cars) that the Chinese manufacture. These agreements may start out as non-binding but eventually lead to binding agreements on our part which will precipitate another transfer of American wealth to China. As a bonus Newsom gets to beg China to switch horses for 2024 and back him to be President so that he can deliver America to be fully subservient to China’s world domination. If we weren’t living this nightmare, it would make great reading in a Tom Clancy novel.

  4. The whole PR campaign looks just so hokey.
The first picture displayed of Ol’Gov Gav at the Great Wall looks like a cover picture on a knock of a GQ magazine possibly we can call it the NQ (Not Quite)magazine. He just is not quite ready for prime time and this proves it. The pictures are quite comical. Of course the best shot is him mowing down a 10year old boy and then swatting him in jest.😳
Of course the first partner had to get into the action, so cute in her suit and heels. I wonder if her apparel was manufactured by 10 year old Chinese boys and girls.
I guess a good time was had by all. Lots of laughs I am sure!
We know who gets the last laugh, Xi Jinping of course. His young conquest of the California Governor is a VERY GOOD INVESTMENT indeed.

      1. It is just all so contrived!
I guess they proved they could put on a show.
Also F.P. Jenny from the block, showed White Girls can Jump!
As Gov Gav did the opposite, SPLAT!

        1. HA – Yes, and it’s the show-that-never-ends, besides. At the moment the powers are goosing fake legitimacy for the Xi-Biden S.F. meet. More theatre, get your tickets! Or better yet DON’T BOTHER; you sure as heck won’t miss anything, you’ll just be insulted again with their fake attempts to put something ELSE that’s fake over on you.

  5. It proved without a doubt that Newson’s ego makes him look like a fool to the entire world. We had Biden being laughed at by the entire world then up jumps Newson to take his turn.

  6. CG you are so right, the political pro Xi played the frat boy amateur Gov Gav, but Gav is such a dummy he will never realize it.

  7. “First Partner” looks like she’s got good form…
(and her jump shot’s not too bad either)

But her choice of footwear is questionable (as is her taste in men) but at least she doesn’t mow down Chinese children…

  8. Katy’s coverage and viewpoint’s are SO accurate! It is shocking that the California (and beyond) masses can’t see Newsom’s true self, which this trip to China (and Gaza) truly displays … an America-hater, globalist/elitist wannabe. On live TV, during governor election debates, he declared that he’d not pursue running for U.S. President. Is he doing anything else BUT positioning himself as “presidential”. He is Deep State’s backup plan for the abysmal failure of President./V.P. who were installed in 2020 by D.S.

  9. Why do we need an MOU with China on Climate Change? The CARB employee directory already looks lke a who’s who of the Chinese Minstry of State Security. If Gov. Gavin ‘Unelectable to Higher Office’ Newsom and the First Cuckqueen REALLY wanted to accomplish ‘something’ in the waning days of the worst 8 years in California politics, they should’ve stayed home rather than jetting around the world depositing pollutants into the atmosphere or reigned in PG&E before they burn down another portion of California.
