California’s Elected Democrats Have Forsaken the People

The biological obvious is lost on the left, who instead live in a contorted utopia of gender fluidity

By Katy Grimes, April 2, 2025 9:22 am

Not one Democrat lawmaker on the California Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports & Tourism Committee voted Tuesday to protect female athletes from trans-women (biological boys) competing in girls’ and women’s sports.

The bills were hardly controversial and should not have been contentious – AB 89 by Assemblywoman Kate Sanchez (R-Rancho Santa Margarita) would require the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) to amend its constitution, bylaws, and policies, to prohibit biological males from participating on a girls’ interscholastic sports team, bringing the CIF into compliance with Title IX.

AB 844 by Assemblyman Bill Essayli (R-Riverside) would disallow trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports by requiring that students use all school facilities to only play on sports teams based on their biological sex and not their gender identity.

Hundreds of parents attended the hearing, many with their athlete daughters and sons to support the bills.

And many trans activists attended – some actually trans but many stating they were the parents of transgender children.

Immediately following the hearing, at a press conference of Republican Assembly members, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher said “we’ve been called Nazis for standing up for common sense – for young women.”

Gallagher identified the Democrats’ radical policies, and instead of embracing common sense policies, “called us names and dismissed the real problems. But their policies have caused the problem.”

Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (R-Alturas) spoke to media as she invited her teenage son to join her at the podium. “My son is 6’9″ – for him to play on a girls team would be unfair and unsafe for girls,” she said.

The visual was powerful. She’s right.

As a high school swimmer, I and a few of the girls wanted to play water polo but there wasn’t a girls team yet. Title IX had only been federal law for 4 years and girls sports teams weren’t yet available in all sports. So we joined the guys team practice, just for fun. It was a disaster. The guys were so worried about hurting us physically, they held back. And within 5 minutes it became obvious that we girls were not strong enough to play water polo on any competitive level with the guys. Water polo requires speed and strength, and while we girls had speed, we still could not move as fast as the guys simply because we didn’t have the same level of strength. We couldn’t throw the ball to a teammate as fast or as far as the boys.

We were outmatched in speed and strength, as well as physical size. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together could see this.

But the biological obvious is lost on the left, who instead live in a contorted utopia of gender fluidity. They’ve even enshrined their contorted utopia into state law

“The Left’s pursuit of authenticity was a response to its own unreality,” Daniel Greenfield writes Wednesday. “The more unreal it became, the more it became obsessed with finding the authenticity in others that it lacked.”

Surely Mr. Greenfield was at the hearing yesterday, because the hearing was unreal. He goes on to say that “the crisis of the radical intellectuals is that they reject what they are, they reject the world as it is and they build their lives around fantasies that have no connection to their real selves or to reality.”

“Leftists began by fooling themselves and then fooling everyone else. Like all liars, they are desperately hungry for some truths to hang over their vast infrastructure of deceits. That is the authenticity they seek.”

The poster boy for rejecting the world as it is, is Assemblyman Chris Ward (D-San Diego), the Chairman of the LGBTQ Caucus, and a far-left LGBTQ activist.

Ward is the author of Assembly Bill 1955, the controversial bill signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom, which prohibits school districts from notifying parents if their kids are “gender” transitioning while at school. The Trump Administration Department of Education just announced they are investigating the California Department of Education over Assemblyman Ward’s odious new law, the Globe reported last week.

These are the Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports & Tourism Committee members – all Democrats voted NO on AB 89 and AB 844; the two Republicans voted YES:

Assemblyman Christopher M. Ward (D-San Diego)

Assemblywoman Sade Elhawary (D-South Los Angeles)

Assemblywoman Tina S. McKinnor (D-Inglewood)

Assemblywoman Liz Ortega (D-San Leandro)

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton)

Assemblywoman Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim)

Assemblyman Rick Chavez Zbur (D-Los Angeles)

Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale)

Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez (R-Indio)

The fundamentals in California are corrupted – not insurmountable, but corrupted.

Democrats hate the people and no longer work for them.

It is notable that Latin mottos are centrally displayed in the both chambers of the California Legislature reminding lawmakers of their purpose :

In the Assembly says, LEGISLATORUM JUSTAS LEGES CONDERE , which translates to “It is the duty of legislators to make just laws;”

and

In the Senate it says, EST CIVITATIS LIBERTATEM TUERI, meaning “It is the duty of a Senator to guard the liberty of the Commonwealth.”

Democrats, rather than acknowledge that their failures stem from hubris and a lack of discipline, instead blame them on the general state of society, Daniel Greenfield says. “But eventually this fake authenticity wears thin and they have to exchange it for another one.”

  1. Democrats have never worked for the people. For more than a hundred years they have plotted and schemed against the American people. We are now seeing the fruition of their evil plans. They are wholly sold out to Satan and they no longer feel a need to hide it.

  2. How many school boards are following the state rulers on how girls and boys are treated differently. Putting boys in the girls locker rooms, letting the transgender girls (boys) dominate girls sports, is destroying girls sports. Now the parents cannot be notified of their child wants to become transgender. Shame on you California rulers.

  3. “California Governor Gavin Newsom is one of the corrupt elitists, part of the ruthless, sadistic ruling class, beholden to the UN, EU, WEF, WHO and China. He doesn’t govern California for the people; he is helping to destroy it.

But everything here is policy – bad policy, but policy can be overturned and new, healthier policies can be put in place. It will take new politicians and a re-engaged electorate.” Quote attributed to Katy Grimes The Fundamentals are corrupted is the California Experiment Over.

Bad policy can me overturned. A republic such as ours is best led by folks with morals, decency and servant leadership skills that puts the health and freedom of society over their own personal gain. We all know that we are being led down the primrose path by corrupt immoral people that are attempting to enslave us for their own personal evil benefit. We have to continue to standup and fight against it. Better days are ahead for the California Experiment.

  4. This is an 80/20 issue and the Democrats in Sacramento are on the 20% side. If the CAGOP was actually competent and had any money, they could play non-stop ads of the Dems own insane words on how much they hate girls and women and want boys/men to beat them up in sports and invade their private spaces.

  5. I entered into a school board election to try and make a difference on these issues. What I very quickly realized is how deeply entrenched not only are these policies in California education, but also in other organizations like the California School Boards Association (CSBA). CSBA provides recommended policies that are distributed to school districts throughout the state.. They seemingly work hand-in-hand with the Department of Education in developing these policies. The system is incredibly saturated with leftist ideologies and is not transparent in the least about existing legal challenges against those policies/laws. It is very much like swimming upriver for those who want to try to change these policies and restore trust in the public education system. Many are leaving and will continue to leave as these policies continue to upset parents and as test scores continue to decline. But we press on and hope others will too. Thank you for your continued coverage on this and other key topics.

    1. Your experience indicates that the California Education Department needs to be eliminated, and the money sent back to the Counties and the local school boards. There is nothing special about having multiple layers of bureaucracy wasting money that the voters have no control over. Local control and accountability are a much better system. Schools would be much better, and our kids would receive a higher quality of education at a greatly reduced expense.

  6. IF THE LIBTARD DEMS DON’T UNDERSTAND BIOLOGY AS IT RELATES TO AB89 AND AB844 THEN WHY NOT PRESS SCHOOLS TO LET TRANS MALE ATHLETES COMPETE WITH WOMEN BUT ONLY BIOLOGICAL WOMEN CAN WIN AN EVENT. TRANS MEN MAY COME IN FIRST BUT THE AWARD GOES TO A FEMALE.

  7. Grateful to Katy Grimes for listing the Assembly Democrats who voted NO on AB 89 and AB 844 but maybe the article should have included their mug shots? One wonders if the majority of voters whom these Democrats supposedly represent agree promoting this far left trans agenda of allowing trans (biological males) to compete in girls’ and women’s sports? Probably not? If Assembly Democrats have forsaken the majority of voters in their districts, then who exactly are they representing? Are they getting payoffs to push the radical trans agenda? Maybe big pharma is paying them off? Maybe they’re getting payoffs from other nefarious sources such as Soros, CCP, WEF globalists, etc.? There’s has to be a reason behind why the criminal Democrat thug mafia that controls California is pushing this radical trans agenda so strongly? This is an opportunity for the CAGOP to capitalize on the unpopularity of the Democrat’s radical trans agenda, but will they capitalize on it? Probably not?

    1. So the California Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports & Tourism Committee has nine Assembly Democrats two of which are members of the radical far left alphabet rainbow mafia (Assemblymen Chris Ward and Rick Zbur)? This ridiculous committee in no way represents viewpoints of the majority of legal California voters?

      1. Meanwhile, Washington Free Beacon reports that California has doled out nearly $18 million in taxpayer funding to the left-wing Tides Center since Democrat Gov. Gavin “Hair-gel Hitler” Newsom became governor in 2019, a Washington Free Beacon review of state spending records found. Thanks to the way the dark money behemoth operates, it’s a mystery whether the money goes to any of the far-left groups it supports.

That setup allows the state to obscure which group actually gets taxpayer dollars after it awards contracts or grants to the Tides Center. The Golden State’s spending database shows that 18 agencies, ranging from health departments to workplace regulators, sent payments to the George Soros-backed nonprofit. The database does not reveal which project gets the cash in the end. State officials also told the Free Beacon that the database is missing information from some departments, meaning total payments to the Tides Center could eclipse the nearly $18 million shown.

The Tides Center essentially acts like a middle man, funneling hundreds of millions of dollars every year to a network of seemingly independent charitable organizations—primarily progressive activist groups. But unlike traditional nonprofits, these groups are housed within the Tides Center as so-called fiscally sponsored projects, enabling them to operate as charities while sidestepping the IRS’s robust financial transparency requirements for tax-exempt groups.

This arrangement is “almost designed to be non-transparent,” Parker Thayer, an investigative researcher with the Capital Research Center, said. Left-wing billionaires favor structures like Tides’s “precisely because it allows them to shovel their money faster to left-leaning causes,” he added.

        Ugh. Where is the CAGOP?

        1. TJ, The CAGOP has been lined up at the trough waiting for any slop to come their way. The CAGOP offers very little resistance. They work hard at keeping the status quo going.

  8. Gee, I wonder why public school enrollment is down, or people are leaving the state? Elon moved his company just on laws like this. Voting NO on further school bonds will be the incentive to change.
