Crazies in Climateland Vote to Increase CA Gas Prices by 65¢ per gallon

Attempting to be relevant, Gavin Newsom has CA Air Board promote climate crisis

By Katy Grimes, November 9, 2024 8:57 am

The California Air Resources Board voted Friday to approve new gas regulations which will result in as much as a .65 cent per gallon increase in California’s gas prices.

The California Governor, Legislature and State Air Resources Board are working hand in glove to restrict the availability of oil and gas and increase the cost of gas at the pump so severely, middle class and working class drivers will be making choices between groceries and fuel for the car.

Remember that Gov. Newsom recently claimed Californians would save money at the pump with the CARB vote.

The vote made significant updates to the low carbon fuel standard (LCFS), which requires the state to reduce the environmental impact of gas and other transportation fuels by incentivizing producers to cut emissions.

The Globe reported on this in October, and said this is how California Governor Gavin Newsom is going to jump back onto the national stage. Because once his role as Joe Biden’s surrogate presidential candidate was shattered as Democrats replaced him with Kamala Harris, how could Newsom remain present in order to facilitate a run for President in 4 years?

Climate Change, that’s how.

Because Gavin Newsom needs a new cause to appear to be relevant, Californians will be paying upwards of $7.00 per gallon of gas soon.

This brings us to Gov. Newsom’s plan to decrease the state’s gas supply in special session legislation, as well as the California Air Resources Board mandating an additional .50 cents per gallon be added to the price of gas in California in January.

This was Newsom’s plan all along, which is all part of the goal to force California’s drivers out of their cars, and/or into electric vehicles, and be the first state in the country to do it. But ultimately, the Democrats’ goal is to ban petroleum-powered internal combustion engines by 2035 and gas-powered vehicles.

Gov. Newsom, the Legislature and State Air Resources Board are working hand in glove to restrict the availability of oil and gas and increase the cost of gas at the pump so severely, middle class and working class drivers will be making choices between groceries and fuel for the car.

California’s cap and trade program will expire in 2030. The CARB devised the cap-and-trade system whereby it holds a quarterly auction program requiring selected California employers to bid significant amounts of money for the privilege of continuing to operate in the state and “pollute” — or be faced with closing their doors.

California’s cap-and-trade program places a “cap” on aggregate greenhouse gas emissions from businesses and utilities deemed “polluters” by the California Air Resources Board, which the CARB says are responsible for most of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.

A group of lawmakers has already been assigned to lead a discussion on climate change in December. Energy experts anticipate another extension is in the works.

The 2023 CARB Low Carbon Fuel Standard amendments document unabashedly outlines in black-and-white, the new gas tax increases through 2042 (page 57):

The California Air Resources Board is an unelected board consisting of 16 members. All but two voted to pass the new regulations – which will do nothing for the climate – we already have some of the cleanest air in the world in California.

As we reported last week, California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a shakedown operation of California’s largest industries. Recently, they  announced they issued a massive fine to Valero oil company: nearly $82 million penalty “to address significant air pollution violations by Valero Refining Co. at its Benicia refinery.”

Together with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, both air boards proudly proclaimed this is the third major fine the Air District has assessed against Bay Area refineries this year. In February, the Air District announced a $20 million penalty against the Chevron refinery in Richmond, and earlier this month the Air District announced a $5 million penalty against the Marathon refinery in Martinez.

But the money is for the children:

“Over $64 million of these funds will be returned to the local community to finance projects aimed at reducing air pollution exposure, mitigating air pollution impacts and improving public health in areas surrounding the refinery.”

Ah, the funds will be “returned” to the community – but only after they are taken from Valero by the state.

Newsom’s CARB board has issued 82 such penalties this year… and 2024 is not over yet.

So, why is the CARB raising California’s gas taxes yet again?

As Ashley Zavala with KCRA reported, “This policy is key to the electric vehicle transition that we need,” said board member Susan Shaheen. “As we move forward there is still a lot of urgency but a lot of uncertainty which is why the guard rails and monitoring is so important.”

CARB Chair Liane Randolph opened the meeting saying:

“We know to address climate we need to reduce use of fossil fuels.”

She blamed President-elect Trump for anticipated interference in California’s climate policies.

Californians are suffering from dependence on fossil fuels, and the market controlled in the state by only a few companies.

“The market controlled in the state by only a few companies” is the result of actions taken by Governor Gavin Newsom resulting in chasing oil companies Chevron and Phillips 66 out, the CARB Board regulations which increase restrictions on the oil industry resulting in higher gas prices, and the Democrat supermajority in the California Legislature.

Assemblyman Bill Essayli (R-Corona) wasn’t having any of it, and posted on X:

Today Governor Newsom’s Air Resources Board just voted to increase gas prices by at least 60¢ per gallon. I boycotted Newsom’s Special Session on Gas Prices because we know Sacramento is the problem, not the solution. Here’s some of what you missed during the special session that ended with higher gas prices.

The video he posted along with his message made the special session of the Legislature on Newsom’s gas price hike look like a total clown show.

Calling for Gavin Newsom’s recall, California’s Dr. Houman Hemmati said on X:

If this isn’t proof of how out of touch and corrupt @GavinNewsom is, giving into the demands of the “climate industrial complex” whose lobbyists spoke for HOURS (I listened!), I don’t know what is. At a time when Newsom should be LOWERING gas prices in California, he’s taken TWO consecutive actions (this and the major refinery mandates that are forcing some to shut down) to make gasoline cost even MORE. Why? Because he and his people are hell bent on forcing people out of cars or, at best, to abandon perfectly good cars and switch to EVs, just as electric rates are skyrocketing even quicker than gas prices!!! 3 years ago, we tried to recall Newsom for far less than this. Triggered by his lavish secret dinner at French Laundry at a time the rest of us were locked at home & masked, angry Californians launched an attempt to remove Newsom. It failed for many reasons, including an electorate that was still under his spell.

This is Gavin Newsom’s California.

This is also Kamala Harris’s California – the country dodged a bullet.

  1. Unfortunately, electricity is going up faster in price than gasoline. I just paid $4.00 per gallon at Costco and my hybrid gets 40 MPG. That calculates to $0.10 per mile. My price of Edison electricity is $0.43 per KWH in OC. At 3.5 miles per KWH in an EV, that calculates to $0.123 per mile. I’d rather pay $0.10 per mile.

    1. I’m switching to a motorized 3 wheeled bike with a basket for groceries. Right now, we can no longer afford car insurance or gas.

    2. I just paid less than $4.00 per gallon here in the Sacremento area so not sure how the author gets $7.00 as any sort of reality with even the most .65 increase per gallon.

      1. Has is not the same price everywhere in California. you will see gas as high as $7 in parts of LA snd closer to you in Monterey.

      2. Enjoy your $4 gallon in Sacramento while it lasts because Gavin Newsom and the rest of your Democrat masters along with their stooges at CARB have decreed that you’ll be paying much more in gas taxes.

  2. Compound this increase by the cost of bringing compliant (special blend) fuel from other states to Cali.
Then there’s the planned scarcity of electrical power.

Californians should be on a suicide watch.

  3. Sadist!
They spend more time lowering the quality of life for legal residents and also those that bypassed the legal process to live in this once great state.
California is an oligarchy and these decisions are a result of this reality.
How much pain can the average Californian withstand?

  4. If Gruesome Newsom hadn’t bribed millions of votes from illegal aliens crossing the border, one could argue California may have gone RED in the presidential election. Now is the time to recall this idiot, and his swamp dwellers, from office and make the Great State of California Golden Again.

    1. This is not true. You detract from your argument with wild claims. it is true this vote is not in touch with California’s residents struggling with higher costs including insurance, electricity and gas. this is a good way to flip the state red.

  5. From the Katy Grimes full-on exposure of the Newsom-appointed CARB and our go-along super-majority Dem legislature, all of them gleeful destroyers of the lives of Californians, this is what we need to remember, if we remember nothing else, when we soon find ourselves pumping $7.00 a gallon gasoline:

The Governor of California (pop. 40M), Gavin Newsom, in order to SERVE ONLY HIMSELF and his (doomed) PIPE DREAMS of a POLITICAL FUTURE, has built and is USING the CARB, the California Air Resources Board, appointed by him (“it’s not me, it’s THEM,” he would say to distance and shield himself from what he has done and to avoid sticks and stones from the public), and is USING the compliant super-majority Dem legislature.
If he had stood behind the podium this very morning and announced, “SCREW CALIFORNIANS —– IT’S ALL ABOUT ME” it wouldn’t have been any clearer.

  6. Katy, I’m flattered that you composed a college-degree-qualifying report as if we Californians are going to follow up on these details one day. One sentence is all is needed. They’re not Crazies but Criminals.

  7. The already shrinking middle and working classes will be further burdened by these misguided and quixotic policies. This enviro-idolatry has to stop. Cali-zuela here we come!

  8. We moved from California to Nevada in March, 2021 after retiring. We still try and spend our Augusts in the Pismo Beach using our Class A RV. We already have reservations for August, 2025. We were going to tack two to three weeks before our reservation, visiting Santa Barbara, Ventura, Santa Maria, Solvang, and other locations but now, no way. We’ll keep our reservation in Pismo, but forget about all of the other things we want to do. I guess tourist $$$’s doesn’t mean anything to Gruesome.

Also, with the new CARB mandates on emissions and ZEV requirements in January, you won’t be able to purchase a Class A gas or diesel RV in California. 10 States have adopted the CARB ACT rule. Check out this article for more information: https://camperreport.com/will-california-ban-motorhome-sales-in-2025/

Guess we won’t be visiting California after August, 2025.

    GFY Newscum and CARB…!!!

    1. We need to stand up and get Newsom and he’s cronies out before we end up homeless. This state needs to wake up and put a stop to this madness. I am barely able to afford gas to get to work now. Let’s put a stop on this madness !!!!

  9. Newsom is destroying California along with the super majority in Sacramento.
He has nothing but contempt and disdain for the law abiding Californians and governs for his own narcissistic power and not the good of the people for whom he works. He is an embarrassment and a failed governor.
It appears he is purposefully creating inflation to harm us. Increased gas prices will affect all goods and services provided in the state. He is expanding the working poor. This tax isn’t for our well being. It is to force compliance with his extreme ideology.
He needs a black box warning, Newsom is harmful to Californians.

We need to get rid of CARB as well. They are not elected and get to tax us? Isn’t this taxation without representation?

Recall Newsom now! We can’t afford him for two more years. The third time is the charm.

  10. I think the question is- will this work? Climate change was not in the top 5 issues in the last election. But cost of living was #1 along with the border. Raising prices now simply adds to the consumer pain. Don’t expect more electric car sales with interest rates high and other costs rising. His other gambit, to “resist” deportations, is exactly the opposite of the national mood.

Grade on these political moves: F

  11. I wonder how many of these appointees actually pay for gas at all…? Probably all have prepaid gas cards so these decisions don’t affect them or their families – just yours

  12. Unfortunately blaming the Governor or CARB doesn’t make sense. The electorate of CA keep electing legislators to the Assembly/Senate that adopt low-carbon fuel standards (pushed by non-governmental organizations) that CARB must implement. Until electorate (we retire next year and have been planning our escape from this insane asylum for the last few years) start electing sane, rational legislators that aren’t captured by the funding mechanisms of the non-governmental organizations, nothing will change.

  13. I presume every welfare and illegal gets a new EV, paid for by the working stiffs of California.
I will say one thing, this is a recall that will work this time.

  14. I love it! They are so committed to this junk science because it’s another source of revenue. If it cost them financially, they would do nothing about”Climate Crisis” . I hope the hold on to this childish fantasy as long as possible because the suffering it will cause will help unseat them like nothing else.
I drive over 30,000 miles a year on California roads as part of my job. The demand and use of single occupancy vehicles and trucks is so huge that there is no way they will be replaced or reduced any time soon. There just isn’t enough money or resources, period.
All that’s happened is wealthy elites have personally insulated themselves from possible government induced scarcity with their own solar and EVs . It’s the same ruling class that supports windmill and big battery scams.

  15. Notice that the price of diesel and jet fuel is going up even faster based on CARB’s own projections. When was the last time you saw a battery powered airplane or an EV semi that wasn’t on fire and shutting down our freeways? This is going to translate into a major increase in the cost of EVERYTHING. Also the CPUC continually votes to increase electric prices. So there is no escaping this. At this point, one can no longer assume ignorance for why the state leadership is doing this. This is pure intentional malice. They are mad that the majority of us are now opposed to them and they are trying to crush us via the most effective means they have: ruining us financially.

  16. “But ultimately, the GLOBALISTS’ / World Economic Forum’$ goal is to ban petroleum-powered internal combustion engines by 2035 and gas-powered vehicles.”
    Fixed it for you…
But seriously, as others have written, the CARB is just Newsom’s political cover organization to enact his globalist or CCP paymaster’s agendas and who is the rising EV competition to Tesla?
Yep, BYD, the same Chinese conglomerate that Newsom wrote a billion-dollar no-compete contract for PPE in the early days of the plandemic.
Newsom is 100% corrupt, as his Aunt Nancy taught him, and we need to capitalize on this recent election to launch yet another recall on this corrupt globalist oligarch, and take out his CARB appointees as well…
    RECALL NEWSOM NOW!!!

  17. Has anyone else noticed that whether the subject is elections or anything else of interest in the news during this extraordinary time that California is being completely IGNORED? Not even a mention, when you would expect one.
I think it’s because, thanks to Gavin Newsom & Co., no one wants to look at us or think about us right now. Except to mock and joke. So we’ve dropped off the map. Apparently it’s too depressing to notice or think about California and its continuing during what is, for the rest of the country, a celebratory time. That this won’t serve Gruesome well is probably the silver lining of it. Not sure he was shooting for further irrelevancy, though, when he said to himself I’m not done giving Californians the middle finger yet, in his never-ending ruinous schemes.
So gee, thanks A LOT for our new non-status, Gavin Newsom. A-hole.

  18. No new generation unless it is solar or wind with this mentality I can’t wait for the loggerhead when electric vehicles will be sitting at the side road waiting for a diesel or gas powered tow truck or generator. We’ve begun employing candles for lighting at night but don’t tell the insurance companies or they may cancel are insurance and then we will be forced to move out of State.

  19. So they are increasing the homeless population 🤔.
These are some smart people that these libtards vote for and keep in office.
Make everyone dependent apon Government…….. truly sad shit hole state this has turned into.

  20. Electric cars are not an option. My electricity was out for 25 hours last week. It’s always going out.

We need to get replace these Democrats with Republicans. It’s really that simple. Save yourselves.

  21. The first clue was when state ELECTED officials thought they could tell THE PEOPLE what kind of cars they can drive. We, The People, need to cut out the cancerous democrats from power in CA, if we are to be able to live our lives here. Otherwise, we will continue to be dictated by Sacramento in every aspect of our lives.

  22. CARB board appointed by governor is all you need to know. Everyone that sits on that board is clueless and can’t take their mouth off the extreme left funnel. Sad for the residents of CA who will have to pay for this.
Katy a nice follow up would be to have a conversation with the utilities asking for transparency on a timeline for all this power needed. They won’t say anything on the record. Meanwhile CA residents are left holding the bag because educated liberals think this is going to turn around climate change.

  23. Thank you Katy Grimes and California Globe for educating the public about why Californians are paying the highest gas prices in the Country because of the antics of Gavin Newsom and his criminal Democrat cronies in the legislature along with their stooges in nebulous agencies like CARB who make draconian dictates. So glad that Katy named the CARB members and who appointed them so Californians know who to blame as gas prices spike and supplies dwindle. The legacy mockingbird propaganda media (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, Fox, SF Chronicle, LA Times, Sacramento Bee, etc.) will never report this.

  24. CARB is a Nazi entity. They are not voted in by the people. They make rules about automobiles and force other states to follow.

  25. I’ve lived here 69 years used to be the greatest state. Now it’s a joke Newsom and Kamala Harris have been a big part of destroying this one’s great state Newsome has to go, he’s going to try and run for president in four years hopefully America smarter than that we need to get these idiots out of office in California
