Gov. Gavin Newsom and AG Rob Bonta are Playing Political Theater with Illegal Immigration

CA Democrats can’t decide if they support federal or state immigration laws

A fundamental factor in Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign and landslide win was the Biden administration allowing millions of illegal immigrants to cross the border – a total reversal of Trump’s policies.

Blue states governors like California Governor Gavin Newsom have vowed to fight Trump administration immigration policies, including deportations of criminal illegal aliens.

The United States has been here before – not with this level of gross open border mass illegal immigration – and there is legal precedence.

Remember when in 2010 the Obama administration sued Arizona over the state’s passage of strict new immigration laws because the state was under attack from violent Mexican drug and immigrant smuggling cartels? Remember that Obama announced he was taking back control over the issue while ignoring that border states were desperate for more security?

The Obama administration argued the Arizona law, which required state and local police to investigate the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspected of being an illegal immigrant, is unconstitutional and would sap law enforcement resources, Reuters reported.

“Seeking to address the issue through a patchwork of state laws will only create more problems than it solves,” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, said in a statement.

So which is it California? Does the state’s immigration policies to “protect” illegal immigrants trump the federal government’s or is incoming President Donald Trump right to deport those in the state and country illegally?

This week, California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued “guidance” for the state’s “immigrants” from the “President-elect’s inhumane threats of mass detention, arrests, and deportation – (note that Bonta does not differentiate between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants – a cruel stunt to instill fear in all immigrants):

Over the coming weeks, Attorney General Bonta will continue to help Californians prepare for changes to federal immigration policy in convenings with immigrant rights groups, elected officials, and others in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Salinas, San Francisco, and San Diego, where the Attorney General and California Department of Justice (CADOJ) staff will share resources, hear concerns, and discuss ongoing efforts to protect California’s immigrant communities.

“In California, we know that our immigrants are the backbone of our communities, a driving force behind our economy, and an essential part of our history as a state,” said Attorney General Bonta. “With the President-elect making clear his intent to move forward an inhumane and destructive immigration agenda once he takes office, CADOJ is releasing new and updated guidance to help immigrants understand their rights under the law. In California, we will ensure that the rights of our immigrant communities are respected and protected. I will be convening a series of discussions in the weeks ahead – the first here today in Los Angeles – focused on this essential mission.”

Bonta doesn’t really offer anything concrete to prevent illegal aliens from being deported. He’s merely offering up roadblocks and soundbites. And, Bonta, who claims “our immigrants are the backbone of our communities,” is ignoring the illegal aliens, and especially the criminal illegal aliens, cartels and gangs now in the US.

Earlier this month, Bonta warned public institutions like libraries, hospitals, schools “to be prepared to protect immigrants’ rights when President-elect Donald Trump, who has promised to implement mass deportations, takes office,” the SF Chronicle reported.

Deja Vu All Over Again

Back in 2010, Obama’s Justice Department filed a lawsuit in federal court in Arizona and asked for an injunction to prevent the state law from taking effect, Reuters reported.

Then-Arizona Governor Jan Brewer condemned the lawsuit as a waste of taxpayer funds and said the state law was needed because the federal government had not done its job. “As a direct result of failed and inconsistent federal enforcement, Arizona is under attack from violent Mexican drug and immigrant smuggling cartels. Now, Arizona is under attack in federal court from President Obama and his Department of Justice,” Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement.

“A Justice Department official said that if the court refused an injunction, the federal government would closely monitor enforcement of the Arizona law for possible illegal racial profiling or other civil rights violations.”

Newsom’s Latest Stunt

Immediately after the November election, Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would “Trump-proof” the state against President-elect Donald Trump’s anticipated policies, but this stunt is getting meh reviews.

Newsom called an unnecessary special session of the Legislature to grab another $25 million that the state doesn’t have so Attorney General Rob Bonta can spend more time and taxpayer money to litigate and “defend” California’s problematic and illegal policies, regulations and laws against the Trump administration.

But Gavin Newsom isn’t reading the room.

As the Globe reported, even in 2017, a University of California, Berkeley study of more than 1,000 Californians found 74 percent oppose sanctuary city policies, legislative Democrats continue to push SB 54, despite that the UC Berkeley study results included 73 percent of Democrats and 65 percent of Hispanics. “We found very broad-based opposition to the idea of sanctuary cities,” said IGS Director Jack Citrin, a professor of political science at UC Berkeley who has studied immigration for years. “Californians want their local officials to abide by the requests of federal authorities.”

Today that number would be even higher with the Biden Administration letting 8-10 millions of illegal aliens into the country, including violent gangs and drug cartels. Mass illegal immigration needs mass deportations.

Gavin Newsom and Rob Bonta are playing political theater, and it’s a boring play. They know their antics will garner headlines from California’s duplicitous media. Yet they cannot get around the fact that federal immigration law supersedes California’s patchwork of mostly toothless immigration policies, guidances, and resistance.

Even this Fox5SanDiego article said, “As the incoming Trump administration promises an aggressive crackdown on immigration, questions are being raised about the role local police agencies might play in enforcing federal border policies.” Notice they said it was a “crackdown on immigration” and not “illegal immigration.” This is shameless propaganda.

As the Globe reported last week, California is already a “sanctuary state” thanks to Assembly and Senate Democrats and former Gov. Jerry Brown who signed Senate Bill 54 by then-Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) in 2017 turning California into a sanctuary state. SB 54 prohibits local police departments and sheriffs’ deputies from assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and enforcing federal immigration laws. But that law conflicts with federal law and federal immigration rules.

President-elect Trump’s incoming Border Czar Tom Homan warned, “It’s a felony to knowingly harbor or conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities. Don’t test us.”

Are you listening Gavin Newsom and Rob Bonta? Because the Trump administration and Congress may very well cut off federal aid to California until you agree to cooperate with ICE.

  1. Newsom and Bonta are posturing of course, and it means NOTHING as a practical matter. For the hundredth re-run of these people’s nonsense it remains only super-obnoxious “neener-neener” anti-Trump BS. How sick are we of this crap? Pretty sick, I’d say. For crying out loud.
As Katy Grimes pointed out, Californians polled years ago came in at close to three-quarters AGAINST illegal immigration, across all measurable groups, which means that Katy is also right that these ridiculously oblivious politicians, Newsom and Bonta for instance, are “not reading the room.” HELLOooooo! Is anyone home, Gavin and Rob? Virtually NO ONE who is legally residing in this state wants your show-off, blustery “protection,” which by the way is constantly hyped in that annoying fake way you have, at the expense, once again, of trying to solve actual CA problems. Do you understand?

  2. I really hope the incoming border czar makes Gavin one of his first examples…we will be watching. It has been amazing to watch every GOP administration even to just let California conveniently ignore Federal Law. Part of the entire problem is that 90% of attorneys are DNC aligned. It was why even so many GOP states have been so lame in their lawfare. Of all the University programs that need to be overhauled…it seems that Law Schools are the most important, starting with the so called “Tier 1”.

  3. Gavin Newsom, AG Rob Bonta, and the rest of the criminal Democrat mafia do the bidding of their nefarious deep-state masters like the cartels, WEF globalists, UN, etc. so they don’t care whether the vast majority of Californians are opposed to illegal immigration?

No doubt they plan to create as much chaos and turmoil as possible even before Trump is inaugurated? Alex Jones pointed out that Big Pharma vaccine scientist Dr. Peter Hotez recently made the eerie declaration that “a new pandemic will come crashing down on the new Trump administration on Jan. 21st” and right on cue Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency yesterday after learning the H5N1 bird flu virus had reportedly spread to Southern California dairy herds. How long before Newsom and his demonic deep-state cronies dictate vaccinations and lockdowns?
