President Trump Threatens to Cut CA’s Federal Funding over ‘Illegally Allowing Men to Play in Women’s Sports

Despite President Donald Trump’s Executive Order in February 2025 banning biological men/boys who identify as transgender women/girls from college women’s and high school girls’ sports teams, Governor Gavin Newsom, elected Democrat lawmakers and the state’s schools haven’t budged – they continue to allow biological males to compete in girls sports – even with the threat of losing federal funding.

Gov. Newsom even claimed he found the policy “deeply unfair” to have trans athletes competing against women in sports, in his maiden March podcast with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, the Globe reported:

“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness — it’s deeply unfair,” said Newsom. “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”

But the governor did nothing about it – it was all talk, so California female athletes continue losing to biological men competing in women’s sporting events.

Outrage culminated this past weekend when a biological male dominated at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State track and field championships. Many news associations reported that “a transgender athlete” or “transgender woman” competed, attempting to soften the obvious fact that it was a biological male who competed and won against girls.

That was enough for President Donald Trump, who announced Tuesday morning that California’s current policy of allowing biological males to compete in girls sports against girls, will result in a significant cut in federal funding.

California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow “MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.” This week a transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won “everything,” and is now qualified to compete in the “State Finals” next weekend. As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS. Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to. The Governor, himself, said it is “UNFAIR.” I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go??? In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!

This is fantastic news to female athletes throughout the state. Finally.

The California Interscholastic Federation governs high school sports in California, and has said it follows state law, however they are not honoring California’s high school female athletes, the Globe reported in March.

A California Interscholastic Federation spokesperson told ABC 10 in February that CIF plans on continuing to follow California law, which allows athletes to play on a sports team “consistent with their gender identity.”

Paging Governor Newsom… California continues to resists President Trump’s order banning biological men from participating in girls school sports.

A little background for context is needed.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS is the title of President Trump’s order, and is the basis for the 1972 Title IX.

“Instead of standing for the rights of women, Biden caved to woke activists who wanted biological males to be treated as women in workplace showers, competitive sports, prisons, and rape shelters,” President Trump’s executive order says. “All executive departments and agencies (agencies) shall review grants to educational programs and, where appropriate, rescind funding to programs that fail to comply with the policy established in this order.”

Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher weighed in on California’s continued refusal to act:

“President Trump said what millions of parents are thinking. California is letting biological boys steal girls’ titles, and Gavin Newsom is too weak to stop it. If Newsom won’t protect fairness in women’s sports, Republicans will.”

Earlier this year, Assembly Republicans introduced two bills to preserve competitive integrity and safety in girls’ sports. Democrats killed both, even after Governor Newsom publicly called the situation “deeply unfair.”

National polling shows nearly 70% of Americans agree: biological males should not be allowed to compete in girls’ events.

“This is an issue of fairness,” Gallagher added. “We’re not going to stand on the sidelines as female athletes continue to lose opportunities they deserve.”

And the state California Interscholastic Federation plans on continuing to follow California law, which allows athletes to play on a sports team consistent with their gender identity.

Consistent with their gender identity.” Think about that statement. The children still in K-12 school – kids who eat paste, watch cartoons, and who are dependent on parents for food – kids living under their parents’ roofs, are being allowed by the Governor, lawmakers and the state of California to determine their gender identity.

These same children are not legally allowed to get a tattoo or use a tanning booth. They can’t buy cigarettes. They can’t drive. But they are choosing their gender identity?

And the Governor, lawmakers and the state of California think that is rational, realistic or even legal? This is madness and it is evil.

It’s time to cut federal funding to California.
