White House Calls LA Times ‘Buffoons’ as Selectively Edited Trump Clip Fuels Manufactured Outrage

California Democrats treated a restarted rally line as an invitation for Iran to strike Los Angeles and San Diego

By Megan Barth, October 6, 2026 12:54 pm

The Democratic outrage machine went into overdrive Monday night and Tuesday after Democratic politicians, their sycophants, and major outlets selectively edited President Donald Trump’s Nebraska rally remarks. They stripped out the context—the cost of the Iran war and the threat of a nuclear Iran—and circulated a clip that made it look as if Trump were inviting an attack on Los Angeles and San Diego.

Speaking Monday in Grand Island, Trump called elevated fuel prices temporary and “artificial,” and argued they were preferable to an unchecked nuclear Iran. “It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,” he said. Then, he restarted: “They can take out a city. Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon.”

Gavin Newsom posted the truncated clip and wrote: “After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous.”

LA Mayor Karen Bass called it an attempt to “encourage attacks on American lives.” Mayor Todd Gloria said San Diego was not “collateral damage.”

The Los Angeles Times headlined the remark as Trump suggesting Iran be allowed to “take out” the two cities. TMZ ran the same selectively edited clip, framing the line as an invitation for Iran to hit Los Angeles and San Diego while leaving out that he was calling higher gas prices a “small price to pay” to stop a nuclear Iran from hitting an American city.

The White House Rapid Response account replied to that Times post: “No, he didn’t, you buffoons.” Trump “was saying the U.S. is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance.”

Steven Cheung called the “media freakout” “not rooted in reality” and wrote that Trump “was clearly stating U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn’t been stopped.”

Even CNN’s Daniel Dale rejected the paraphrase, posting that it was not a correct rendering and that Trump has repeatedly argued the cost of the war is a small price compared with what an unchecked Iran could do.

Steven Crowder put it more bluntly: “Deranged and dangerous is exactly what you call a governor who hears a comment about gas prices and tells millions of people the president wants them bombed, instead.”

Between the Los Angeles Times headline, the TMZ clip, and Newsom’s post, the lesson is the same: you don’t hate the media enough. This is not a misunderstanding from the editorial board. It is the Fake News business model.

A full sentence about pump prices and a nuclear threat does not move midterm voters. A six-word clip that sounds like the president inviting Iran to wipe out two California cities does. Selective editing, a loaded headline, and a governor’s post then reinforce the narrative until the distortion is the story and the transcript is the correction nobody leads with.

The point is not to establish what was said. It is to fix a perception: Trump as a threat to Californians, just in time to sway how people vote. The price argument they omitted sits on top of a supply problem California Democrats designed and the LA Times has failed to accurately expose.

Phillips 66 shut its Los Angeles-area refinery in late 2025, and Valero closed Benicia in April 2026, removing roughly 17% of in-state refining capacity. The California Globe has tracked California’s energy decimation for years: Nevada creating a fuel-resiliency panel as the exits loomed; USC’s Michael Mische warning that the shutdowns could push gasoline toward $8.43 a gallon, only then to be smeared by Newsom instead of answered. Marathon warned the governor that new CARB rules could be a death knell for what remains; and Arizona and Nevada bracing for the spillover.

The Globe has accurately exposed the exodus as a  threat to national security, not a White House plot.

Newsom has spent the war blaming Trump for the pump sticker shock. What Monday’s clip left out is that Trump was talking about those prices as the political cost of a war he says is meant to keep a nuclear Iran from ever reaching an American city. The transcript, the White House rebuttal, and CNN’s correction all point the same direction. The outrage that followed did not.

  1. I watched the clip. Anyone with an IQ over 10 would interpret the statement to mean what would happen if Iran had nuclear weapons. Of course, we all know Democrats are not very smart.

  2. The propaganda media is parroting the lies of Newsom, Bass and the rest of the criminal Democrat thug mafia instead playing what President Trump actually said. For example, radio station KFBK in Sacramento was dutifully regurgitating Newsom’s lies during every hourly news update throughout the day. Just when you think you can’t despise the propaganda media enough…

  3. It just so happens that I caught what was actually said by 47 on the radio listening to The Great Larry Elder while on my hour (or more) commute from Dixon to Sac. (I do so love my commute, rolling my eyes).

I’d does not surprise me one little bit that they twisted and lied about what 47 said. Not in the least.
Also it doesn’t surprise me that I held this up to the loony left people I know as proof that this is just a small example that shows how they are being manipulated and drawn into false indignation and hatred for this man, by the leftist lying media. That they are being used by corporations, their corporations. yes corporations that they hate (unless they are owned by a lefty) , and they didn’t care. Just didn’t care because what would they do if they couldn’t HATE Trump? Are their lives going to become meaningless in two years? LOL, come to think of it. It might be hilarious to watch these idiots in two years post 47.

    1. The driving distance between Dixon and Sacramento is only 23 miles yet it ridiculously takes an hour or more to commute between the two cities. The Yolo Bypass has always been a bottleneck and it’s taken YEARS to add traffic lanes to Interstate 80 despite traffic between Sacramento and the Bay Area surging over the years. Meanwhile billions of taxpayer dollars have been squandered for Newsom’s train to nowhere and not one mile of track has been laid. There should be a mass uprising against the criminal Democrat thug mafia that controls this state.

  4. Maybe this democrat caterwauling may make the west coast face a few facts:
If we cannot stop ships full of contraband like drugs, people, cars, and God only knows what else., what makes one think Iran cannot fire nuclear missiles from a west coast cargo container? It is a part of China’s current war inventory, so it is nothing new militarily. It is a relatively low tech single stage weapon, too close to be intercepted or prepared for besides hiding under your bed.

  5. The assembly of innuendos he chose are indicative of diminished mental capacity and the failure to invoke forethought. In this case his comments almost tantamount to yelling fire in a theatre: The idiot is trying to be President. For the supreme leader to even suggest the assault he so clearly did in conjunction with his presumed Intel speaks of Trump’s looming insanity.

Are Trump and Hilton consciously trying to fail??

    1. Newsom’s troll Eyeinthesky is delusional. Again.

As Megan Barth explained the Democrat propaganda news media left out the part of the clip in which President Trump spoke about the political cost of a war meant to keep a nuclear Iran from ever reaching an American city.

Leave it to one of Newsom’s idiotic dimwits like Eyeinthesky to twist what President Trump said and falsely claim that he was encouraging Iran to attack.

    2. Eyeinthesky, how much is Newsom paying you to defend his nonsense?

While you are at it, can you please ask Newsom how proposing and signing into law, SB 122, a new tax on software, is helping Californians with affordability?

      1. Newsom and Trump are both corrupt politicians however complicating Trump’s resume is pedophilia the republicans are striving to cover up.

Trump’s unabashed comments regarding war may be deeper  than you know as during you time wasted rationalizing the behavior of a crazed pedophile president that very president is deploying thousands of innocent troops to the Middle East in preparations for potentially the war of wars and BTW why hasn’t  the old creep stopped the war in The Ukraine as promised?

Continue chasing your tails while ignoring the fundemental causes of all you complain about.

  6. The Administration should sue in a very big way to make an example. Then, if it is scandalous enough, the propaganda press will have to cover it. Then maybe people’s eyes will open a bit.
