Anti-Billionaire ‘OUR REVOLUTION’ Endorses Billionaire Steyer for Gov

Anti-billionaire Group, “OUR REVOLUTION” has just endorsed Billionaire Tom Steyer for California Governor.

“OUR REVOLUTION” was founded by Bernie Sanders “as an independent organization to take on corporate power, elect progressives, and fight for a government that works for all of us — not the billionaire class” – before Bernie was a millionaire?

Anti-billionaires are supporting billionaires in California?

The Intercept has the explanation:

OUR REVOLUTION, the progressive group founded by Bernie Sanders as an outgrowth of his 2016 presidential campaign, is endorsing its first billionaire as the race for California governor tightens.

Tom Steyer, a hedge-fund billionaire and philanthropist, won the group’s endorsement on Monday. Our Revolution said its decision to back Steyer was driven in part by the shakeup over Rep. Eric Swalwell’s exit and fear that if progressives fail to consolidate around a candidate, they’ll hand the gubernatorial seat to a Republican.

“While yes, he is a billionaire, and that’s a real and important concern, it’s equally important to recognize how he’s used his wealth and power,” said Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese.

“The worst thing that could happen is a Republican winning,” Geevarghese said. “Strategically, Steyer and his campaign is best positioned to make sure that does not happen.”

Geevarghese said that Steyer aggressively sought Our Revolution’s endorsement throughout the race.

The big question is will Bernie the millionaire campaign for Steyer the billionaire?

Not if Sanders truly believes the goals of Our Revolution:

1. Get Oligarch Money out of Politics and eliminate in the influence of corporations, billionaires and consultants in our political process
2. Fight the Oligarch Agenda from Capitol Hill to City Halls, and fight FOR an agenda that delivers for poor and working people

Isn’t Tom Steyer a billionaire oligarch? His commercials certainly depict him as one.

Never say never: “We stand a risk of giving California to the Republicans. And that would be the worst outcome possible,” Geevarghese said. “Democrats could do themselves in here and be their worst enemy.”
