California Democrats Look to Turn Kavanaugh Confirmation Into a Blue Wave

Supreme Court Pick to Affect California Elections

By Sean Brown, October 9, 2018 6:30 am

Governor Jerry Brown, the highest ranking public official in the state, released a formal statement directly following Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination saying “This controversial and partisan choice further deepens the divisions of America and profoundly undermines democratic governance. A real tragedy.” This criticism from high-ranking California Democrats has continued and will most likely continue for some time.

Mayor of San Francisco London Breed said, “The confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is an insult to women and survivors of sexual assault. We should believe victims when they come forward and their stories must always be more important than any political goals.”

Former State Senate leader Kevin De León said in a press release, “Senate leadership rammed the most partisan Supreme Court nominee we’ve ever seen straight into a seat on our nation’s highest and most powerful bench. With each passing day, our constitutional rights will be at risk.”

Finally, current Lt. Governor and current gubernatorial frontrunner Gavin Newsom said, “This is a dark moment in our history, but I refuse to feel the defeat. Today marks 1 month until Election Day. Let’s show the @GOP just how big this blue wave is that’s coming their way.”

There is no secret the officials listed above are in opposition to Kavanaugh’s beliefs, however, it remains to be seen whether they will be able turn his nomination into a blue wave for Democrats in the coming midterm elections, which is surely the goal.
