‘Compliance is Not Punitive’ Gov. Newsom Says as he Orders 95% of Californians into Harsher COVID Restrictions and Curfew

After getting caught violating his own COVID rules, is Gov. punishing Californians?

Monday’s noon briefing from Gov. Gavin Newsom was as instructive as it was horrifying: He announced that California was “pulling an emergency brake” on reopening because of rising COVID “positivity” cases. Not deaths. And he did a soft-sell on hospitalizations. Newsom admitted that California is nowhere near the national average on “positivity” or hospitalizations, but said he’s still moving 40 California counties back into restrictive tiers.

“We are sounding the alarm,” said Gov. Newsom. “California is experiencing the fastest increase in cases we have seen yet –faster than what we experienced at the outset of the pandemic or even this summer. The spread of COVID-19, if left unchecked, could quickly overwhelm our health care system and lead to catastrophic outcomes. That is why we are pulling an emergency brake in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Now is the time to do all we can – government at all levels and Californians across the state – to flatten the curve again as we have done before.”

It felt so punitive and authoritarian.

Yet Newsom failed to acknowledge that he has ramped up testing in the state exponentially, so it is a rational conclusion that people will test positive for this virus, most of who will be asymptomatic, and would never have known they had it, had they not been tested.

California, a state of 40 million people, has had 18,000 deaths, and most of those deaths are people over age 75.

(typo in the Tweet – it’s 40 counties, not 49)

It was revealed late last week Gov. Newsom and his wife attended a large birthday dinner party in Napa Valley despite his own restrictions to the 40 million California residents. And it wasn’t a birthday party for one of his children’s friends, the party was for Jason Kinney, a 20-year friend and political consultant to Newsom, at the famed Michelin-starred restaurant, The French Laundry in Yountville, California Globe reported. The French Laundry menu usually costs $310 per person, before wine.

Gov. Newsom announced changes Monday to the state’s color-coded tier system for reopening. The governor said he will likely be providing weekly updates and changes including more restrictions among counties, rather than every two weeks. He also noted a strong possibility for counties to jump more than one tier in a week, and updates to county status multiple times a week.

Many are saying on social media that there is no coincidence that Gov. Newsom is turning up the heat after California voters turned down a number of really big tax increase initiatives. Others are calling this lockdown a shakedown.

Newsom’s latest restrictions are supposed to be added to the tiers by Friday. As an added bonus, Newsom said he may impose a curfew, as New York has done.

Gov. Newsom is sounding more and more like a despot, and not a benevolent one at that.

As we reported last week, the hospitals are not filling up with COVID patients. California has 74,180 hospital beds among more than 440 hospitals. The CDPH says there are currently 4,000 Californians with COVID in the hospital. How is this a spike or surge?

The governor said he is considering imposing a curfew on the state, and then reminded everyone to “always wash your hands and minimize mixing.”

As for the birthday party indiscretion, Newsom tried to be contrite in issuing an apology and said, “Instead of sitting down I should have gotten back in my car and gone home.”

“I own the mistake. I expect more from myself. I’ll never do it again,” Newsom added. It wasn’t clear whether he meant he won’t dine with more than 10 people again, or if he won’t get caught dining with 12 people again, because he still has not explained why he restricted “gatherings” to 10 people or less. Clearly if he didn’t feel threatened dining with 12 people, why should anyone else?

“COVID fatigue is exhausting,” he admitted.

Gov. Newsom’s latest punitive changes move about 95% of California’s 40 million residents into the most restrictive purple tier. So all of the small businesses and restaurants barely hanging on financially may be kaput… no indoor dining at restaurants, no using your gym indoors, and those movie theaters trying to reopen are about to be closed again. No drinking at the bar with friends, unless they offer full service menus, and only for outside dining… in November.

“Compliance is not punitive,” Gov. Newsom said Monday before his press conference ended. As he praised California’s 40 million residents “for the good work you have done,” he rewarded you with more restrictions, a curfew and ordered your businesses closed again.

At the end of the press briefing, Newsom was asked by two members of the media if he is a “do as I say, not as I do” governor, and if because of his actions he is worried Californians won’t take him seriously. He dismissed the first question saying “rewind the tape.” As for the second question, he said, “I made one mistake. I own that. Now it’s time to move on.”

It was March 4, 2020 when we were told to shelter in place for two weeks to flatter the curve… that was more than 250 days ago.

    1. Main stream media would never ever show it to the world. The way I see it is there are very few of us Californians that would not comply, I feel very alone because that is what the politicians and main stream media wants. I feel crazy because media is trying to brainwash us when I know what is realistic. Makes me F crazy.

  1. Comrades

The curfew…yes……like in East Berlin……next…..a run on turkeys, the big ones…..good careers will be tunnel/cave rats hollowing out new happy hour locations…..

  2. Hospitals were NEVER inundated, now the case negatives outweigh the positives, death rate is at an all time low, so why the restriction? Now that restaurants have spent tons of money on outdoor dining he is now trying to ruin them by restricting outside dining and curfews to limit them further? Previously he targeted hair and nail salons, now he says this is an emergency but nail, hair, massage, facials are ok? Where is the science with this? Now he says the spread is in our own households, STUPID! French Laundry mistake.. Who can really take him serious?

  3. Gov. Newsom claims that his lockdown decrees are not punitive? Baloney! Gov. Newsom is acting like a petty dictator with his unconstitutional lockdown decrees that make no sense to no one with any common sense? Meanwhile communist China is open for business without any lockdown restrictions even in Wuhan where the virus started? No doubt Gov. Newsom and his Democrat stooges are carrying out the orders of their globalist masters who are trying to destroy the U.S. economy?
    Recall Gavin Newsom! https://recallgavin2020.com/petition/

    1. Thanks Showandtell. Good writing that should be read by everyone as well as this one by Katy. The regular MSM is so full of BS. California Globe is the best.

    2. Right you are again S&T

Finding people infected even if at one a day keeps newsom’s evil regime alive like a dying animal on serious life support. The tests are the answer and a golden excuse for him to continue his evil reign on the citizens of California. Hair gel is an evil and wicked fool.

  4. If you haven’t heard by now, Gavin Gruesome is the most unpleasant, arrogant, insufferable, narcissistic horse’s ass EVER.

  5. I commented on the French Laundry article about many lawmakers taking a trip to meet with around 100 people in Maui recently despite bans on interstate travel. Article is on Politico. Details on the other comment.

  6. Remember in June, Newsom refused to place a statewide curfew as looters, protestors destroyed businesses and terrorized citizens while calling them peaceful and warranted. He encouraged large gatherings (as he called it), anytime of the day, and refused to enforce these idiots to wear masks. Now, he wants to place a curfew to further ruin CA, he is the terrorist.

  7. To understand what is really going on look up the Great Reset and Agenda 201. The plan is a total destruction of freedom.

    1. Further investigation has revealed that the people who PLANNED the covid epidemic (Agenda 201) started out planning the Dark Winter event. There are no coincidences!!!

  8. This is a psyop- an intelligence operation. Gavin is Naval Intelligence. He was groomed/emplaced by the Pentagon which has major interests in the state and ensures its control over the state government. Gavin was behind the phone 2003 SARS scare in San Francisco at the SFDPH and he was first appointed to the BOS buy Willie Brown who was also a puppet of the Pentagon. We can bicker of medical science, but it’s a cul-de-sac from seeing the intelligence operation and putting it in the context of globalism and transnational banking/organized crime. This is not a health crisis – it is a Neo-Feudalism, and Gavin is a puppet.

  9. Romans 12:19, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Revelation 14:7, “ Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”

  10. The CDC distributed over 200 million dollars to states to start vaccine planning and preparedness, requesting states submit their initial plans in October. What did CA do with this money? Where is our interim plan? Some states do have clear transparency, such as Arkansas, for example. Ark has a very detailed vaccine plan and distribution posted on their DPH web page. No secrets, very logical approach, very clear. They even allow for input from the public. Where is Gavin’s plan? Is he not cooperating with the CDC because he wants to make his own vaccination laws and distribution that make no logical sense? He wants to keep Californians uninformed and in the dark, forever moving the goal posts, announcing inaccurate data. Vaccine distribution in CA will be just as chaotic as his blueprint and the EDD backlog. Show me preparation, show me data, show me the plan cause I do not believe a word out of Newsom’s mouth. Clearly his outdoor dinner was NOT outdoors, blamed the wife.

    1. Stacy: You are so right about all of what you said re vaccines.
Also noticeable by its absence is talk from Gavin & Co. about TREATMENT for people actually ill and possibly hospitalized with COVID and the great success of the available therapeutics. Nothing — not a word — from the Gov, or state health officer Ghaly, or the useless county public health officers all over the state. Why is that? They clearly don’t want to offer that guidance to help sick people or, at the very least, ease people’s minds about what’s available should they or their loved ones become seriously ill. Why not?

      1. You are right that there is not a word about treatment for COVID-19 from any government official in CA from the governor down. Of course, the existence of effective (and affordable) outpatient treatment, not to mention prophylaxis (prevention), is a total game changer. No draconian measures, and no vaccines, are needed if COVID-19 can be prevented and readily treated (even in elderly nursing home residents).

My county’s public health department posts a “dashboard” of COVID-19 statistics on its Facebook page daily. Every day, citizens comment on the dashboard; some commenters are “true believers” but questioners and objectors are becoming more numerous and bolder about speaking up. I’m finding the comments a good place to offer information on prevention and treatment. The other day a woman commented that “Everybody knows” that there’s no treatment, no cure, no “solution” for COVID-19, and no vaccine coming soon — so we must all cooperate to the max with lockdowns, masks, social distancing, and all the rest. I told her that actually, there are at least five highly effective treatments now available — gave her a list, and suggested two youtube channels where she can watch interviews with doctors using these treatments. She responded with a “Wow” icon and I think she’ll pursue more information.

So if you aren’t already offering information on prevention and treatment on public health departments’ Facebook pages, I recommend making a project of this. We can reach people this way…perhaps even public health employees. None of my “educational” comments have been deleted; I make a point of being courteous and sounding reasonable — a few of my comments have actually gotten “likes” from the public health folks…
