Division 10, Part 3, Chapter 1 of the California Family Code deals with emergency protective orders for the prevention of domestic violence.

Section 6240 provides definitions for the following terms: “judicial officer,” “law enforcement officer,” and “abduct.”

Section 6241 requires the presiding judge of the superior court in each county to designate at least one judge, commissioner, or referee to be reasonably available to issue orally, by telephone or otherwise, emergency protective orders at all times whether or not the court is in session.
