FBI Raids Billionaire’s Beverly Hills Mansion in Connection With Eric Swalwell Case

Eric Swalwell is back in the news. The FBI just raided a Beverly Hills mansion tied to former Rep. Eric Swalwell, who faces sexual misconduct allegations and scrutiny over ties to a suspected Chinese intelligence operative, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The FBI executed a search warrant Tuesday morning at the Beverly Hills mansion of Stephen Cloobeck, the founder of Diamond Resorts. Sources describe the action as tied to the ongoing federal investigation involving former Rep. Eric Swalwell.

The FBI confirmed it was executing a search warrant, however court documents are sealed and no arrests were planned, ABC7 reported. An FBI spokesperson told reporters they conducted an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation and had no further comment.

Cloobeck was a major donor and supporter of Swalwell’s California gubernatorial campaign, including more than $1 million in support and a maximum direct contribution. Swalwell stayed at the property multiple times while campaigning, used it for events, and filmed a video denying the sexual misconduct allegations from inside the home before Cloobeck cut ties and told him to leave after the allegations became public in April 2026.

This follows earlier federal action in August 2026, when agents seized Swalwell’s phone and laptop at San Francisco International Airport and searched his Washington, D.C., home. That was part of a civil-rights investigation (involving possible violations of statutes such as 18 U.S.C. § 242) connected to the sexual misconduct allegations. Separate probes are also underway by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and Los Angeles County authorities.

California Globe has extensively documented as Swalwell’s spectacular fall from grace. Once a cable-news fixture, House Intelligence Committee member, and frontrunner for California governor after launching his campaign on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Swalwell’s political career collapsed in April 2026 amid the groundswell of allegations from multiple women.

In April, Eric Swalwell suspended his campaign for California Governor following the stunning development that a “Former staffer says Rep. Eric Swalwell, candidate for California governor, sexually assaulted her.”

The former staffer alleged he sexually assaulted her on two occasions, including when she was too intoxicated to consent. Additional women made allegations of misconduct ranging from unsolicited explicit messages and photos, to more serious claims, including one woman who publicly accused him of drugging and assaulting her.

Swalwell’s alleged exploits rocked California’s Democratic establishment just weeks before the June primary, as he and Democrats faced an avalanche of political fallout.

While Swalwell denied the allegations of sexual assault, calling them false, while acknowledging unspecified “mistakes in judgment,” he remains under investigation, but has not been charged.

Ties to the suspected Chinese intelligence operative

In August, “in a dramatic escalation of the federal investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and assault against disgraced former California Congressman Eric Swalwell, FBI agents confronted the one-time Democratic rising star at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday night, seized his electronic devices under a search warrant, and the following day executed a search of his Washington, D.C., residence.” the Globe reported.

Swalwell has long faced scrutiny over his relationship with Christine Fang, known lovingly as “Fang Fang”, a Chinese national suspected of being an intelligence operative linked to China’s Ministry of State Security.

Swalwell first drew national attention for the Fang Fang scandal when he remained on the House Intelligence Committee despite the revelations—prompting questions about national security vetting and Democratic leadership priorities. The scandal was part of a broader pattern of Chinese influence operations targeting California politicians, as detailed in our reporting at the time.

Swalwell was eventually removed from the House Intelligence Committee over the “Fang Fang” association.

Declassified FBI records showed that Swalwell admitted in 2015–2016 interviews to having “physical relations” with “Fang Fang” on a “handful of occasions.” The documents also described other aspects of her activities involving political circles, fundraising, and interns.

Billionaire Cloobeck has faced separate legal issues, including charges related to attempting to dissuade witnesses in a case involving his fiancée. However, earlier this spring, Cloobeck told the California Post he was “done” with Dems after his preferred candidate in the governor’s race — disgraced ex-congressman Eric Swalwell — suffered an epic career collapse in the wake of rape and sexual assault allegations.

The situation is developing, with sealed documents and limited official detail beyond the confirmation of the warrant. The Globe will follow up as more information is released.
