‘California Labor and Employment Law: A Practical Guide to the Labor Code’

By Katy Grimes, March 1, 2024 8:00 am

Chris Micheli, a frequent contributor to California Globe the past five years, just published his most recent book, which is his effort to explain many of the provisions of California’s Labor Code. The book is called “California Labor and Employment Law: A Practical Guide to the Labor Code.” It has 78 chapters and is 190 pages in length. Micheli is an attorney and lobbyist at his firm, Snodgrass & Micheli, and also serves as an Adjunct Professor at McGeorge School of Law and UC Davis King Hall School of Law.

This handbook provides a summary of many of the major provisions of California’s Labor Code related to state labor and employment laws (not including workers’ compensation or health and safety). The book is intended to be a practical guide for those seeking an overview of the major state statutes under the Labor Code. While it is not an exhaustive treatment of the Labor Code’s statutory provisions, there are brief explanations of most of the applicable labor and employment state laws. There is also reference to applicable provisions of the California Code of Regulations.

As Micheli notes, “labor and employment laws in this state are sometimes difficult to navigate and so I’ve tried to provide short summaries of the major provisions contained in the Labor Code. Having been a lobbyist in the labor and employment law area for over fifteen years, I have an appreciation for the complexity of these laws and have tried to explain the key provisions in an accessible format.

It is available in paperback at this link.
