Governor Newsom Signs Law Offering Mortgage Relief to LA ‘Firestorm’ Victims

Actor Spencer Pratt responds ‘it was a firestorm of bureaucratic incompetence, failure and neglect’

On Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) announced he signed Assembly Bill 238 which requires mortgage lenders to help borrowers experiencing financial hardship due to the Los Angeles fires in January by offering mortgage forbearance for up to 12 months.

In a post, Newsom exclaimed “These survivors deserve grace as they rebuild from this tragedy….”

The legislation expands on the January agreement the state reached with mortgage lenders to offer forbearance for firestorm survivors for at least 90 days, with many lenders voluntarily offering forbearance for up to 12 months. This bill deepens homeowner protections by expanding relief and creating enforceable legal requirements, the Office of the Governor said in a press release, noting:

“Homeowners rebuilding after a disaster need all the support they can get, including grace in light of this incredible hardship. This bill is a welcome expansion of the forbearance agreements my administration secured earlier this year with major national and state-chartered lenders to offer mortgage relief to LA fire victims. Recovery requires an all-hands-on-deck approach, and I look forward to additional conversations with lenders in the coming months about how we can continue to support survivors together.”

Actor Spencer Pratt and his parents lost their homes in the Palisades Fire, with Pratt calling for a congressional investigation and promising a lawsuit over alleged misuse of $100M in funds raised through a FireAid benefit concert. Pratt also took issue with the term “firestorm” used in the governor’s press release.

Pratt charged that it “wasn’t a firestorm. It was a perfect storm of bureaucratic incompetence, failure, and neglect…”  In another post, Pratt added, “Firestorms?” Is that your nickname for Newsom criminal negligence that kills 12 senior citizens”

Both Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles and Governor Newsom have been blamed for the extent and damage of  the January 7 fires that destroyed the Pacific Palisades and Altadena, resulting in the loss of approximately 17,000 homes.

At the time, The Globe reported:

Before the fires, Bass demonstrated that wildfires striking the city were not high on her list of priorities. Last year, Bass led the movement to slash Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) for the 2024-2025 city budget. Originally aiming to cut $23 million, she managed to cut $17.5 million instead. Then, in early January, Bass was warned that very high Santa Ana winds were coming and was advised to stay in the city for the potential emergency. However, she instead carried on with her plans to travel to Accra, Ghana, where she was part of the U.S. delegation attending the inauguration of Ghana President John Mahama.

The LA Times had requested Mayor Bass’s cell phone records from the time of the LA fires, and at a time when she was in Ghana, but her office admitted those phone records had been automatically deleted and not preserved.

Last week, the U.S. Senate demanded all records from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) for communications and records related to the Palisades fire and all records related to fire suppression, mitigation efforts, and response efforts. The LAFD has until October 1 to respond.

  1. “The LA Times had requested Mayor Bass’s cell phone records from the time of the LA fires, and at a time when she was in Ghana, but her office admitted those phone records had been automatically deleted and not preserved.”

Show me the app that automatically deletes cell phone records. Bass is a lying POS, just like all of the Commucrats.

I’m sure the FBI could get them.

  2. What, is this strictly symbolic mortgage “forbearance” thing supposed to be a distraction from Newsom and Bass’ criminal negligence in the case of all that went oddly and terribly wrong in the Palisades fires? Call me when they CONFESS to their extremely suspicious non-action before, during, and after these fires. Don’t think I’ll be getting that call, will I?
I would go on, but it’s almost impossible to know where to start when making the list of what is NOT HAPPENING now that SHOULD BE, with regard to the Palisades especially, because that is Bass’ bailiwick, and her level of not giving a crap about fire victims IN HER OWN CITY is only rivaled by Newsom’s level of not giving a crap. Having lost everything and then having to face navigating the California maze of madness and complications after such a trauma is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. What a mess. And JUST IMAGINE—– it did NOT have to be like this. From the beginning.

    1. So then, did the LA Times press her, like they do, or did they say; Oh, that’s okay then, Mayor. Thanks answering our question.

  3. Kudos to actor Spencer Pratt for calling out Hair-gel Hitler Newsom and that dingbat LA Mayor Karen “Castro” Bass for their intentional maleficence with the LA fires.

  4. Show, I am so sorry that you had to go through all of this.
I can only imagine that Gavin and Karen really add insult to injury near daily.
    .>^. .^<.

    1. Mary, I appreciate so much your sweet thoughts. I think I need to clarify that husband and I are among the lucky ones here in that although we went through the evacuation scenario, in the end we didn’t lose our house. Friends, including a very close one, and even acquaintances in the area DID lose their houses and ARE going through what these horrible politicians have created and are still making (unnecessarily) hellish. It’s wrenching to witness, I admit. And we see reminders every day in the area of the fires and loss as well as the snail’s pace of any sort of recovery. As you know, when political “leadership” doesn’t do its job the effects can be devastating for people on the ground. But I’m probably putting myself too much in other people’s places in a way that may not be productive. Should probably take a break. Did want to say thank you, Mary, for your kindness, though.

  5. This was not a perfect storm of incompetency, it was an attack on the people of SoCal that was probably years in the planning. Wake up people the state is waging war on us.

    1. The “state” as in the Democrat party?
      Seems that way. ..

      100% corrupt and incompetent….
      Vote NO on 50…
