In a recent statement released by gubernatorial candidate John Cox (R), the political hopeful reflected on Ronald Reagan-era times.
“Ronald Reagan brought me to the Republican Party many years ago – his words remain important today,” said Cox.
In the announcement, which came tied with a video from one of Reagan’s famous speeches, the 40th President (1981 to 1989) referenced political intolerance and a “disturbing reoccurrence of bigotry and violence.” A theme that is again proving prevalent in today’s substantial hype-partisan divide.
Reagan can be seen denouncing this unacceptable culture by calling out anyone who stands for such intolerance by saying “you are the ones who are out of step with our society, you are the ones who willfully violate the meaning of the dream that is America and this country because of such what it stands for, will not stand for your conduct.”
Although the statement by Cox was not aimed at any one political party or particular group of people, we can certainly infer this is something he will be looking to implement – or at least make note of, if he should find victory one week from today.
Cox currently trails Democratic rival Gavin Newsom in the polls.
