Rep Dina Titus’s Radical Rhetoric and Voting Record Under Fire After Calling ICE Agents ‘Terrorists’

Nevada Democratic Rep. Dina Titus, a progressive democrat, drew sharp criticism after posting “We need more tourists, not terrorists” in response to Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino’s presence in Las Vegas, appearing to equate ICE agents with terrorists. The remark comes amid DHS data showing an 8,000% increase in death threats against ICE officers and a 1,347% surge in assaults (275 in 2025 vs. 19 in 2024), plus a 3,200% rise in vehicular attacks during the first year of the Trump administration, with one attack resulting in the death of Minneapolis Anti-Ice activist Renee Good.
Despite Titus’ vote for the “Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act” (passed 265–148 in May 2024), which requires detention and deportation of undocumented immigrants arrested for assaulting law enforcement, her wild rhetoric and radical voting record contradicts her vote.

Titus’s latest comment fits her progressive pattern during her tenure as congresswoman since 2013. She has opposed strict immigration enforcement, criticized the term “illegal” immigrant, and accused Republicans of lying about taxpayer benefits for illegal aliens. Her Nevada Democratic colleagues, including Senator Jacky Rosen and Rep. Steven Horsford, have similarly labeled ICE actions as “terrorizing” and are on the record supporting sanctuary-style policies.
These sanctuary policies are in direct contradiction to the newly-expanded 287 (g) agreement the Las Vegas Metro Police Department has entered into with ICE and the vow from Republican Governor Joe Lombardo that, while under his watch, Nevada “will never be a sanctuary state.”
Her voting record further reinforces her far-left alignment. Titus scores only 5% on Heritage Action in the 118th Congress, with a lifetime percentage of a mere 7%. She voted “Yea” on measures targeting criminal undocumented immigrants (e.g., Laken Riley Act) but consistently opposes broader border security enhancements, including wall funding and asylum restrictions. For example, she cosponsored H.R. 7252 (2026) to repeal section 642 of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, which relates to information sharing on foreign students and aliens, potentially easing reporting burdens seen as burdensome to immigrants.
Nevada’s 1st Congressional District—a diverse, urban swing seat in Clark County with roughly 45–50% Hispanic/Latino residents—saw Titus win narrowly in 2024 with 52% in a district that narrowly leans Democrat. The district’s working-class, veteran, and hospitality-dependent voters may be increasingly concerned about crime, border security, and economic impacts.
Likely GOP challenger State Sen. Carrie Buck (R) has raised $497,930 in the 2025–2026 cycle through December 2025, with $297,000 cash on hand entering 2026. She outraised Titus in Q3 2025 ($146,000 vs. Titus’s lower quarterly total) from 7,852 small-dollar donors averaging $59. Titus, benefiting from incumbency and PACs, raised $850,984 in the same period and holds $841,000 cash on hand—nearly three times Buck’s reserves.
With threats against ICE escalating, her office did not respond to requests for comment.
