US DOJ Sues California & Five States for Failing to Provide Voter Registration Rolls

California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania failed or refused to provide clean voter rolls

Thursday the United States Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced it filed federal lawsuits against six states for failure to produce their statewide voter registration lists upon request. California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania failed or refused to provide clean voter rolls.

That the DOJ is hauling California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania into court for hiding their voter rolls is monumental, and specifically the accountability Americans have been clamoring for.

In May, Charlie Kirk pulled no punches demanding clean rolls, noting that this is the source of most cheating.

“Mass irregularities in California’s registration and voting numbers continue to erode voter confidence, which is why Ric Grenell and his team at Fix California have launched a statewide legal survey analyzing the current status of voter rolls throughout the state, and they are prepared to start suing counties,” the Globe reported back in 2021. Fix California has had tremendous successes throughout the state getting counties to clean up their voter rolls over four years, as well as identifying unregistered voters.

In 2024, Special Envoy Ric Grenell, then-Assemblyman Bill Essayli, and Assembly Candidate Carl DeMaio called upon California Secretary of State Shirley Weber to do her job to get county registrars of voters to report their results faster. “We reiterate the urgent need to demand voter roll cleanup, same-day, in-person voting, voter identification, and a transparent counting strategy.”

If a state can’t prove that its voter rolls are accurate, the only conclusion is that they are hiding dead voters, illegal aliens, former residents, and duplicate registrations, allowing and encouraging cheating.

According to the lawsuits, the Attorney General is uniquely charged by Congress with the enforcement of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which were designed by Congress to ensure that states have proper and effective voter registration and voter list maintenance programs. The Attorney General also has the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (CRA) at her disposal to demand the production, inspection, and analysis of the statewide voter registration lists, the DOJ noted.

“Clean voter rolls are the foundation of free and fair elections,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Every state has a responsibility to ensure that voter registration records are accurate, accessible, and secure — states that don’t fulfill that obligation will see this Department of Justice in court.”

“States are required to safeguard American elections by complying with our federal elections laws,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Clean voter rolls protect American citizens from voting fraud and abuse, and restore their confidence that their states’ elections are conducted properly, with integrity, and in compliance with the law.”

California has been sinking further into voting abyss, thanks to Governor Gavin Newsom, who in May 2020 during his COVID statewide lockdown, issued Executive Order N-64-20 2020 ordering every voter in the November 2020 General Election to Vote-By-Mail. And then he made it permanent in 2021, claiming moral authority: “states across our country continue to enact undemocratic voter suppression laws,” Gov. Newsom said.

Newsom signed Assembly Bill 37 by Assemblyman Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park), permanently requiring a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed to every active registered voter in the state. AB 37 also gave the state 30 days to prepare a certified statement of the results of the election and submit it to the governing body within 30 days of the election.

It’s time to unravel California’s web of voting deceit. And the pressure is on now, thanks to the Trump DOJ.

  1. I reluctantly deposited my 2020 ballot in a drop box in front of the hardware store on Monday, November 2.
After the suspicious election results, I went online to check my vote counted on the SOS website. What a shock to see it was processed on October 31. The county registrar office could not provide an explanation.

  2. Katy Grimes has been —- as far as I know, and I’ve certainly been following this issue for what seems like forever —- the only California-based reporter who has done deep, frequent, and thorough investigative work on this matter. For how long? — a couple of decades or so now?
That the Trump administration will be seriously addressing election cheating and cleaning things up in California and other states is welcome news. Even after a long long long period of hopes followed by routine disappointments, we can’t help hoping once again that this effort will produce solid results for what many of us agree is currently THE Most Important Issue in American governance. Without clean elections we don’t have anything. I know we will likely always have a stray dog or dead person voting in our elections, but maybe, just maybe, we can rehab this mess and look forward to at least “clean enough” elections in California and other seriously affected states.

  3. Why am I not surprised that California failed to provide the voter rolls as requested? It’s a corrupt authoritarian government Democrat state.

  4. California’s Democrat Secretary of State of California, Shirley Weber, will likely refuse to provide clean voters rolls for California (because they doesn’t exist) and she’ll probably try to claim that it’s racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. to do so?

    1. Probably. But oh, TJ, wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall in SOS Shirley Weber’s office to see and hear her office scramble around about this? SOS Shirley Weber (former Asm from the San Diego area as I recall) was appointed by Newsom to replace former SOS-now U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, who barely won SOS (no comment). SOS Padilla DID notably refuse to hand over CA voters rolls in 2017 at that to the Trump-led Election Integrity Commission (later disbanded) as requested. After a very sketchy and sloppy reign as SOS, Padilla was then appointed (by Newsom) to the vacant U.S. Senate seat previously inhabited Kamala Harris who was picked as VP candidate in 2020 for the Sleepy Joe Biden presidential ticket. So California! Corrupt from top to bottom. We’ll see what happens.

    1. I’d like them to publish the States that did submit the names. New Mexico isn’t on the list that didn’t so I take it they submitted. If the Democratic States did submit Jen it’s time to knock on doors and hit the phones. There is an easier way to check on voter rolls that are submitted, send 1st Class Post Card or letter requesting if undeliverable to RTS. You’d be surprised on the address’s that don’t exist, people don’t live at this address, and a huge number of people living at the same address, even with the same phone number.

  5. Slimy, lying, crooked DemocRATS can only win by cheating. Anyone with an IQ greater than their shoe size, which leaves out 99% of DemocRATS, the left-tard lying fake news media and crybaby libs) knows that the 2020 election was totally rigged by the DemocRATS.
