Now in his second term, Faulconer has officially come out in support of fellow Republican Cox, stating “We need to reform Sacramento so it’s working for us again,” before going on to say “Millions of forgotten Californians face unaffordable housing, struggling schools and the worst poverty rate in the country. It’s time for new ideas to turn Sacramento around, and John Cox is the best choice for the job. He will never stop fighting for our communities.”
Though Faulconer could be viewed as a moderate since he has in the past taken up more liberal positions on immigration, he is one of many public elected officials who have bestowed their support on Cox.
Cox’s most prominent endorser has been President Trump who tweeted back in April, “California finally deserves a great Governor, one who understands borders, crime and lowering taxes. John Cox is the man – he’ll be the best Governor you’ve ever had. I fully endorse John Cox for Governor and look forward to working with him to Make California Great Again!”

It’s worth noting that saying Cox would be “the best governor you’ve ever had” can be viewed as a slap at Arnold Schwarzenegger, with whom the president has feuded. But the remark also lumps in a pretty popular Republican stalwart called Reagan.
According to KPBS.org, along with Faulconer’s endorsement today, he also gained the support from former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, the San Diego Deputy Sheriffs Association, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-CA 49.”
Cox is running against current Lt. Gov. and former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and while Newsom was calculated ahead of Cox by 23.4 percentage points in July, the California Globe reported just last week that Cox has closed the gap to single digits.
