CA Democrats Defend Gov. Newsom for Changing Date of his Own Recall
‘Gavin Newsom is cheating in the Recall, with this Legislature as his willing accomplice’

California Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Granite Bay) was condemning the dubious bill changing the date of the Recall Election against Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday, when a Democrat colleague stood up and challenged Kiley’s critique of the governor.

“As I blasted Newsom on the Assembly Floor, one legislator actually stood up and protested that I shouldn’t be allowed to criticize the Governor,” Kiley said in a blog post on his website.
“It’s becoming overly political,” said Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian (D -Van Nuys), referring to Kiley’s critique. “It’s all about saying as many things as negative as possible about the governor right now.”
“I don’t want the [Assembly] floor to be misused that way,” Nazarian said.
“This was too much for even the presiding Speaker, who dismissed him,” Kiley said.
What did Kiley say that triggered Nazarian?
“We should be voting in the recall right now,” Kiley said. He discussed Democrats’ 2018 legislation that altered California’s recall election law, extending out the process by a few months to make it longer, rather than the previous recall process which was speedy.
“Everyone knew at the time that it was a sham,” Kiley said. He explained that the legislation was created to save Sen. Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), who was in the middle of a recall at that time. But Newman, to his credit, abstained from voting on the bill, acknowledging it would have been a conflict of interest.
“That was way too much to ask of Governor Newsom,” Kiley said. “This trailer bill was negotiated by his administration… apparently his own campaign had a hand in it, as they’ve refused multiple requests for comment by the Associated Press. And the bill will only take effect when the governor signs it. So we have the unprecedented circumstance where Governor Newsom, with the stroke of a pen, will be changing California law in order to try to beat back his own recall.”
This is where Assemblyman Nazarian objects to Kiley’s references to Gov. Newsom, calling it “overly political.”
But as Kiley said, in the dead of night, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 152, “changing the timing of his own Recall in an attempt to suppress votes against him. It’s possibly the most corrupt act in California history.”
As Kiley said, “the Legislature itself violated international human rights standards by changing rules in the middle of an election.”
“Every child knows the word for changing the rules in the middle of the game,” Kiley added. “It’s cheating. And every California voter should know: Gavin Newsom is cheating in the Recall, with this Legislature as his willing accomplice.”

He’s the only potential serious candidate (possibly Grenell) and I’m hoping that Moorlach will return from the sidelines, or perhaps it’s finally McClintock’s turn – he should have won in ’03 – if he HAD, I’m sure CA would be in better shape today than it is now…
