Kamala Harris’ Lackluster Presidential Campaign is Deteriorating

The New York Times is the latest to drop a brutal story on the downward trajectory of Sen. Kamala Harris’s lackluster presidential campaign. attempted to inject some new life into it with a personnel change. The story quotes from the resignation letter of a top aide, state operations director Kelly Mehlenbacher, who wrote, “This is my third presidential campaign and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly … With less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win.”

The letter further assails campaign manager Juan Rodriguez and Ms. Harris’s sister, Maya, the campaign chairwoman, for laying off aides with no notice “With less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win.”

Now Harris has announced she’s going “all-in” in Iowa. The announcement of 100 Iowa teachers’ endorsement seems to drive home her ho-hum campaign given that there are more than 35,000 teachers in the Hawkeye state.

“I am honored to have the support of teachers from across Iowa and grateful every day for the work they do to help raise our children,” Harris said in a release, Breitbart reported. “Educators here in Iowa and across the country have made me a better candidate and I’m grateful to have them on my team.”

Ahem, who raises our children?

Real Clear Politics polling shows Kamala Harris in sixth place among the Democrat candidates receiving just a little over 3 percent support. Thursday’s RCP poll showed candidate Joe Biden+6.

Kamala Harris: Identity politics over substance

As for likability, Kamala Harris falls quite short.

The Hill reports:

Critics point to Harris’s own personality as the reason for some of the problems.  “She’s perceived as very, very difficult to work for,” one strategist familiar with the campaign told The Hill. “She doesn’t have real relationships and partnerships. She has acquaintances.”

“Here she is, she’s running for Senate, as an African American woman, she should be raising gobs of money,” the source said. “The fact that she’s raising one and a half to 2 million a quarter, is absurd.

“She expects fundraisers who helped Obama to help her…She gets upset when donors don’t flock to her, it drives her crazy that she actually has to meet and talk with people,” the source added.

Despite her claims, her campaign’s claims, and media’s repeated claims that Kamala Harris is African American, she’s not – she’s Indian and Jamaican. She’s also not “black,” according to The Daily Kos, which labeled her a fraud, and addresses her ethnic heritage:

“Senator Harris is NOT by any stretch a Black woman. She is not African American, as was Barack Obama, though she does seek to emulate his meteoric rise to power. The junior senator from California is an Indian/Jamaican American. Not black. Not Black. Not African American. India and Jamaica. I cannot think of a single instance when she has claimed her heritage. But I can list numerous examples, where both she and others will label her as a Black woman. 

Either Mrs. Harris is using her racial ambiguity to score votes or she thinks that cloaking herself in Blackness is no big deal. Well, she’s wrong. Black Americans, to be distinguished from African Americans (those that come from a specific African country, i.e. Kenya), built this country.”

Since her days as San Francisco District Attorney, California’s Attorney General, and U.S. Senator, Harris has repeatedly earned titles of “rude” and “bullying”  – especially after her questioning cabinet members during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearings.

She’s long called herself a feminist crusader, rather ironic for someone who got her political start through an intimate relationship with California’s powerful Speaker of the Assembly, Willie Brown, who facilitated appointments for Harris to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and the Medical Assistance Commission, along with six-figure salaries.

Others have dubbed the candidate’s brand of feminism “fake.” Reason reported:

“Still, much of Harris’ worst work has come from her fake-feminist agenda to “help” women and girls by throwing them in jail for having sex. For at least a decade, she has fought against campaigns to decriminalize consensual adult prostitution in California, ignoring the ardent lobbying of sex workers, criminal justice reformers, and human rights advocates.

The New York Times says Harris’ campaign finances are all but dried up. “The campaign has not taken a poll or been able to afford TV advertising since September, and it has all but quit buying Facebook ads in the last two months.”

Even Politico reported, “‘No discipline. No plan. No strategy.’: Kamala Harris campaign in meltdown.”

Harris has a long history of no discipline. In 2015, then-Senate candidate Kamala Harris was exposed using her office account to fund stays in expensive hotels and first-class airfares during her nearly five-year tenure as state attorney general.

The Hill reported:

The Democratic candidate regularly charges thousands of dollars in luxury travel and hotels to her campaign.

Meanwhile, Harris’s staffers usually take cheaper flights and stay in hotels for closer to $250 a night, according to both inside sources and state campaign finance reports.

Harris stayed in D.C.’s upscale St. Regis hotel, billing her campaign $3,434.74 for a four-night stay, a nightly rate of $858.69. The next month, Harris charged $2,381.70 for “airfare for candidate to New Orleans/campaign event, issues.” Later, she stayed in the St. Regis in D.C. ($823.67), The Beverly Hilton ($1,722.59) and The London NYC hotel ($1,093.20).

“She treats the campaign like a personal checking account to fund a lifestyle she aspires to,” the former aide added.

Another ex-aide said that “Kamala demands a life of luxury.” 

“Donors hate this shit when they’re going around making representations that she’s in a competitive race, and she’s spending that way to support her diva lifestyle,” the strategist said.

“Fake” feminism, “non-black” heritage, rudeness, bullying, spending first-class on herself, together with her “not-so-secret desire to emulate Barack Obama by parlaying a single unfinished term in the Senate into a successful presidential bid,” and Kamala Harris appears as hollow and fake as her fellow presidential contender, the Native American Elizabeth Warren.
