Final Week of CA Legislative Session: Gig Economy, Vaccines, Parolees Voting, Rent Control, Enviro Bills
Watch for the sneaky gut-and-amend bills

There are hundreds of bills yet to pass this final week of the California legislative session. Many contentious and controversial bills are already headed to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk, and many more will be debated this week.
Watch for Assembly Constitutional Amendment 6, which would allow paroled felons in the state to vote, Senate Bill 206, which would compensate student-athletes, Senate Bill 24, which would offer abortion services on college campuses, Assembly Bill 5 by former labor union leader Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) to reclassify Gig economy Rideshare drivers as employees rather than as independent contractors, more plastic bans, a ban on fur, vaccine exemption bill, more gun control measures, and statewide rent control.
Additionally, a bill claiming to be about clean air and water is really another “Trump Resistance” bill. Senate Bill 1 by Sen. President pro Tem Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), would encourage state agencies to adopt environmental rules and regulations more restrictive than Trump Administration EPA rules and regulations adopted after Jan. 19, 2017 – the day before President Donald Trump was sworn into office. While the Trump EPA has been rolling back the 4,000 Obama Administration EPA regulations, California politicians have vowed to adopt them.
