Gov. Newsom Signs Bill to Create Sports Equity Commission to Undermine Girls Athletics

In yet another violation of Title IX, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 749 to create a Sports Equity Commission. Rather than ratifying girls-only in girls sports and banning trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports, Newsom’s commission will prioritize fanatical delusions, throwing out fair, biological competition in girls sports.

Title IX is federal law enacted in 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance, to ensure equal opportunities for all students, regardless of sex, in educational settings.

Pay attention to this drivel by the bill’s author Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor (D-Inglewood):

“The current youth sports landscape is highly fragmented and unfair. Existing practices, pay-to-play models, a lack of facilities, the absence of statewide coaching and safety standards, hyper-competitive leagues, and inaccessible community-based programs deny every child the opportunity to reap the lifelong benefits of youth sports participation which include positive socioemotional development, community cohesion, mental and physical health, academic success, and overall healthier and stronger communities.

This bill is a crucial first step towards engaging with experts on the establishment of a centralized entity charged with improving access, involvement, and the sustainability of youth sports across California leading to healthier and more resilient youth, young adults, and communities.”

Equity, Equity, Equity, Equity, blah, blah, blah. And “hyper-competitive leagues” be damned.

Somehow, girls-only sports survived and thrived 53 years–until the unhinged trans movement was indulged by the left, and boys infiltrated girls sports while wearing dresses, claiming to identify as females. It’s that simple.

President Donald Trump announced in May that California’s current policy of allowing biological males to compete in girls sports against girls, will result in significant cuts in federal funding if California continues to resist the President’s executive order banning biological men from participating in girls school sports.

The Department of Justice explains, “Title IX was designed to protect biological females in sports, not to be twisted into a tool that allows boys to displace girls on the track, the podium, or in scholarship opportunities.” Boom.

The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs high school sports in California, has said it follows state law allowing athletes to play on a sports team “consistent with their gender identity.” CIF is still not honoring or protecting California’s high school female athletes from biological males, or their opportunities in competition, by allowing the trans athletes to compete against women and girls.

The only way to correct this injustice and violation of Title IX is to to require single-sex spaces (bathrooms, locker rooms) and single-sex opportunities (sports) on campuses; to only play on sports teams based on their biological sex and not their gender identity; and ban trans athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.

AB 749 is not addressing this issue at all, and instead attempting to make the issue about mental health – but whose mental health?

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being (Council) was created by the Governor in June 2021 in response to changes in health behaviors brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Council’s goals are as follows:

a) Promote evidence-based, daily mindfulness and breathwork practices for youth and families, especially at schools.

b) Promote all types of physical activity for youth and families with a focus on daily movement, skill development and play, especially at schools.

c) Reimagine a more positive and inclusive sports and fitness culture for California youth and families to bolster health, community and belonging for all Californians.

Reimagine? That means “tear down what works.”

The bill’s sponsor, Play Equity Fund says “Access to play is a social justice issue.” On their IRS Form 990 they claim under Program Service Accomplishments:

“Social justice through sport” is the clear goal of destroying girls sports by allowing trans boys to compete against girls.

“The Play Equity Fund is focused on bringing the transformational power of sport and play to all children, regardless of their race, gender, zip code or socioeconomic status. The Play Equity Fund is the only nonprofit focused solely on Play Equity as a social justice issue.”

They continue:

Now that AB 749 is law, the Play Equity Fund will work alongside our partners — including the California Health and Human Services Agency — to launch a Blue-Ribbon Commission to assess the landscape of youth sports statewide.

This effort will lay the foundation for a centralized, sustainable framework that ensures equitable access to quality sports opportunities for all young people in California.

No discussion of Title IX, which is federal law.

And here are the officers and salaries – the President of Play Equity Fund, Renata Simril‘s annual compensation is $506,405, but I’m sure she’s worth it:

“In 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Simril to serve on the Advisory Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being, a statewide effort to enact policy and funding priorities to ensure healthy Californians of all ages” – which means absolutely nothing.

“In 2023, Simril was appointed by Mayor Karen Bass to serve as President of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks Board of Commissioners.”

Californians were just scammed again by the governor and a dodgy non-profit whose goal is to advocate “Social justice through sport” i.e. infiltrate and destroy girls sports with trans boys.
